If you’re on the market for a compact SUV, the 2021 Kia Sportage must be under consideration for its comfortable cabin and plenty of standard technology. The Kia Sportage interior is one major attraction where the Sportage dimensions have been designed to comfortably accommodate up to five passengers in two rows of seating. This compact SUV delivers 129.3 cubic feet of passenger space in total. Having said that, Sportage does not offer an optional third row. With up to 60.1 cubic feet of cargo space and the standard 60/40 split-folding rear seats, you get a good amount of cargo space inside the 2021 Kia Sportage. Whether you opt for the entry-level LX or the top-of-line SX Turbo model, the Kia Sportage interior offers plenty of comfort- and convenience-enhancing features. Standard interior features include an 8.0-inch Touch-Screen Display with Rear Camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more.

New for 2021 is the Nightfall Edition package, available on the S trim models. It adds interior and exterior features such as a ten-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a panoramic sunroof, LED interior lighting, black exterior accents, and more. To suit the bold style of the 2021 Kia Sportage, you can customize the cabin with a range of interior colors. Offering a range of colors and finishes, the 2021 Kia Sportage interior colors include Black, gray, and beige with different upholstery depending on the trim you choose. The Kia Sportage interior is one of the best aspects of this affordable SUV.  Slotting in above the new Seltos, the Sportage gets the usual Kia styling and a modern interior that's built to last. Competitors of the Kia Sportage include the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, and Volkswagen Tiguan. Prices are also affordable with the base 2021 Sportage starting at just over $25,000, while the range-topping turbocharged model scrapes the $35,000 mark.

How comfortable is the 2021 Kia Sportage?

In typical Kia fashion, the interiors of the 2021 Sportage get a funky and modern design that's easy to get used to. The quality of materials inside the cabin is exceptional for the segment and can easily be mistaken for a higher segment offering. The layout is also simple and ergonomic with all the controls placed neatly in the middle and the infotainment system sitting neatly at the top flanked by climate vents.

The Sportage is a compact SUV,  and though it does not offer a third row for 2021, it has a smart interior layout that maximizes every inch of space within the cabin. The 2021 Kia Sportage interior can seat five adults in comfort thanks to the tall roof and upright seating. If you opt for the sunroof models, the headroom reduces from 39.3 / 39.1 inches (front/rear) to 37.6 / 37.9 inches respectively. The tall front seats provide a good view ahead with plenty of bolstering and firm cushioning.

2021 Kia Sportage Front Seats

With decent legroom, in both front and rear rows (41.5 / 38.2 inches), the rear seats are also comfortable for three adults. Longer journeys are easily possible and visibility is excellent. Higher trims get dual-zone automatic climate control that cools effectively with vents in both rows along with a powered sunroof.

As usual, Kia has provided shortcut buttons for almost every function and they feel tactile and good to use. The three-spoke steering wheel also feels good to hold with thumb contours and silver accents. The center stack is tilted towards the driver with the gear lever on one side and cupholders on the other.

While space is adequate for five passengers, the Kia Sportage does fall short compared to rivals like the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V. The Volkswagen Tiguan goes a step further with an extra row of seating and more passenger space.

How good is the 2021 Kia Sportage’s infotainment system?

Kia doesn't skimp out in the infotainment department and all models get an 8-inch touchscreen system with physical controls for easy access. While the menus are harder to navigate than usual, it is quick and responsive. Features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, and more are also included as standard.

What is the cargo capacity on offer inside the 2021 Kia Sportage?

The 2021 Kia Sportage cargo space is impressive. There are 30.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats upright, and with standard 60/40-split folding rear seats, you can quickly make more space for additional cargo. There’s a maximum of 60.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Because of its focus on style and the sloping roofline, the Kia Sportage fails to match segment leaders in terms of practicality.

However, the wide opening boot offers easy access and 60/40-split folding seats are included as standard to maximize space. The load floor is also adjustable depending on the cargo. The low-loading lip and powered tailgate on the higher trims further add to the convenience.

As usual, the Honda CR-V is easily the most practical option here, offering more space regardless of seat positions. The Volkswagen Tiguan takes the second spot, followed by the Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

Kia has provided cupholders for both rows of passengers along with the center armrest. The wide door pockets on all four doors also include beverage holders. Along with a central storage area under the front armrest, another small tray is provided to keep items behind the gear lever. As usual, the glovebox is large with plenty of storage inside.

Another major reason to choose the Kia Sportage over the competition is the great standard features list. Although the trunk capacity is compromised to a certain extent, the Sportage remains an excellent option if you're in the market for a compact SUV with all the latest features.
