2022 Kia Sportage Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort
Inside, the 2022 Kia Sportage features an ergonomic interior layout wherein all the controls are well laid out within easy reach of the driver. The design is minimalistic with no presence of cruddy plastic bits; instead, the cabin uses soft-touch materials throughout for an upscale interior feel. In terms of technology and features, the base LX trim of the 2022 Sportage comes well equipped with features like manually adjustable driver’s seats, manually adjustable tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and manual air conditioning. An eight-inch screen is placed in the middle of the dashboard that caters to the infotainment duties and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration as standard.
However, features on higher trims get close to that of the premium offerings with the likes of power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation functions, and navigation along with some cosmetic changes. Lower trims feature woven cloth seats whereas both the Nightfall and EX trims come with Syntex leather upholstery available in black and gray. The higher Sportage SX turbo trim comes with leather upholstery as standard with the same color choices. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is available upwards from the Nightfall trim while a leather-trimmed shift knob is offered in the EX and SX Turbo trims.

Space inside the Sportage is apt for five people but the seats lack proper bolstering and support as going around corners at high speeds will cause the occupants to swerve in their seats. Overall visibility from the cabin is good and the driver will have a great view of the road ahead. All in all, the cabin of the Sportage is excellent for the price range, however, the base trim feels lacking in terms of features.
2022 Kia Sportage Infotainment Features
The 2022 Kia Sportage comes with an 8-inch touchscreen placed on the center of the dash that carries out all the infotainment duties for this compact crossover. The system is quite responsive to inputs and features simplistic menus that are easy to navigate through. As mentioned earlier, it also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across the range.
The Nightfall trim comes with SiriusXM satellite radio UVO telematics while the EX trim comes with additional rear-seat USB ports for charging. Navigation is a standard on the SX Turbo trim but optional on the EX. Moreover, a six-speaker sound system comes standard while a premium eight-speaker 320-watt Harman-Kardon sound system with an integrated subwoofer comes standard on the SX Turbo trim.
Key infotainment features on offer are-
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Bluetooth Connectivity
- HomeLink
- Wireless charging
- SiriusXM satellite radio

2022 Kia Sportage Cargo Space
To provide comfort for the passengers, the 2022 Kia Sportage skimps out cargo space. The 2022 Sportage only offers 30.7 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats, however, the available space is adequate to store a week's worth of groceries or luggage required by a small family for a weekend getaway. The rear seats come with a 60/40 split-folding feature as well, opening up a sizeable 60.1 cubic feet of space for larger items.

The Honda HR-V seems to be more practical than the listed rivals as it comes with an enormous 39.2 cubic feet of standard cargo capacity. The Hyundai Tucson comes in second with 34.4 cubic feet followed by both Nissan Rogue and Kia Sportage in that order. With the rear seats folded, the Hyundai excels with its copious 80.3 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity whereas the rest of the cars are nearly identical at around 60 cubic feet.
Additional Interior Storage Spaces
Interior storage spaces are limited to what you'll find in a typical compact crossover. At the front, there's an average locking glovebox, a storage box under the front armrest, additional storage space on the center console for phones, wallets, etc, followed by a pair of cupholders. The rear passengers also get a pair of cup holders on the rear center armrest that doubles up as a seatback for the middle occupant. Moreover, all four doors feature sizeable storage bins and bottle holders whereas the rear doors also come with additional storage compartments.
2022 Kia Sportage Interior Features and Creature Comforts
With a base price of $24,090, the Kia Sportage is quite affordable, but the lower price is self-explanatory thanks to the pitiful feature list of the base trim. It comes with a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, manual air conditioning, and a manually adjustable steering wheel. The only thing that makes it feel slightly upscale is the inclusion of a standard eight-inch infotainment screen. Moving up to the Nightfall trim, the list of features increases marginally with the addition of LED interior lighting, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.
The higher trims of the Sportage take it close to the premium class offerings with progressive comfort features on offer like heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, and a power tailgate offered on the EX and SX Turbo trim. The SX-Turbo offers a few more bits to play with including an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather upholstery, and a premium Harman-Kardon sound system.
2022 Kia Sportage Interior Verdict
The Kia Sportage is a budget-friendly compact crossover that also features a well-balanced interior. While the lower trims come with a limited set of features, the higher trims offer enhanced features along with premium quality materials, giving them an exorbitant appeal as well. The only drawback that remains, however, is the low space that it offers be it for the passengers or their luggage. The 2022 Kia Sportage is inarguably one of the better compact crossovers available out there but some of its rivals are even better with more space and features on offer. And since the redesigned 2023 model is right around the corner, going for the 2022 Sportage hardly makes sense.
