Kia has been advertising the new 2022 Kia Stinger as one hell of a sports sedan. With the capabilities to tackle even European rivals, the 2022 Kia Stinger is set out to redefine what Kia means to people. With the streamlined exteriors and a low stance, the 2022 Kia Stinger definitely does look the part, however, does it actually fulfill the performance criteria? Well, to some extent, it does. The 2022 Kia Stinger features a 2.5L turbocharged inline-four engine, which definitely feels quick on the wheel. The driving experience is also supple as Kia is offering stiffer suspensions in the 2022 Kia Stinger, which uplifts the overall sporty vibe of the vehicle.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Apart from the performance, Kia also promises to offer a premium-looking interior, with abundant leather to make the cabin feel luxurious as well. However, that is one thing that you’ll find mostly on the higher trim levels and less often on the base variants. Facing stiff competition from rivals like Alfa Romeo Giulia, the Infiniti Q50, and the Mercedes-Benz C300, the 2022 Kia Stinger has a lot to prove to the consumers. Let’s see if the all-new Kia Stinger can give the competition a run for their money or not.

2022 Kia Stinger Features

The Kia Stinger has been offered in 4 trims for the 2021 model year, and since there are no expected major overhauls with the car, the lineup for 2022 is likely to be the same. The base version called the “GT Line” has received an upgrade from the 2021 model year with the slightly more capable 2.5L turbo, but still seems a bit underpowered for the sporty image Kia has been trying to build for the Stinger, however, it will still get the job done. Going up the trim lines, the engine gets upgraded to a much better twin-turbo 3.3L engine and the interior features also see substantial upgrades.

We Recommend

We recommend going for the GT trim. It has a sportier 3.3L twin-turbo engine which is much better than the base GT Line version. With the addition of Launch Control and Limited Slip differential, it is hard to make an argument against it for a very capable sporty car. The GT1 and GT2 trims are more heavily focused on making the Kia a more luxurious experience, but the price increase is a bit too high.

Pricing:

The 2022 Kia Stinger is going to be priced around its usual ask even for the 2022 model year. The base variant is expected to go for sale at $36,690 as verified by the manufacturer itself, and the higher trim levels will go up to $50,000. However, the price to feature ratio is apt as the upgrades feel necessary, and comforts feel luxurious.

Release date:

There hasn't been an official word on when the 2022 Kia Stinger will be dropped. However, the launch patterns tell us that the 2022 Kia Stinger is expected to be seen on roads by early fall this year. However, looking at the pandemic situation, the launch date may be pushed back.

2022 Kia Stinger Engine and Performance

Coming to one of the most interesting things about the 2022 Kia Stinger, engine and performance. The 2022 Kia Stinger is going to be offered in four total trims, out of which the GT Line is the base variant. The base variant houses the new 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 engine, which cranks out 300 horsepower at 311 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission which makes the gear switches really smooth, aiding the overall performance. However, if you’re not too happy with the base variant's capabilities, you can opt for the better engine options, which include a 3.3L V6 engine that offers more than 360 horses to the driver. However, that is offered only on the top-of-the-line variant, including the GT2 and GT3 trims.

Speaking of power, the 2022 Kia Stinger isn't too bad when it comes to acceleration either. This sports sedan can pull off a 5.2-second revving up from 0-60mph, with the base variant, which is a great number. With the V6 equipped, you can expect this number to be closer to the 4-second mark as the lighter weight and the great aerodynamics help the car speed up real quick. Also, the car doesn't disappoint in stop-and-go traffic scenarios, which makes it versatile for urban use and not just a performance-biased car. Hence if you’re looking for something that has the guts to race down like a maniac but also offers decent functionality, the 2022 Kia Stinger is worth the consideration.

As compared to the competition, the 2022 Kia Stinger is well above the yardstick and sets a new standard. With the new engine and more horses under the belt, the stinger is going to be a tough one to beat this year-round. When comparing the power and torque output, Kia stands at the forefront with 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.

2022 Kia Stinger Fuel Economy

Fuel economy has never been a concern for designers of a sports sedan, and the 2022 Kia Stinger faces a similar problem. However, the 2022 Kia Stinger isn't completely disappointing as it offers an average mpg of 22 in the suburbs, 29 mpg on the freeways, and 25 mpg combined. Now the Kia does shine on the highway setting, but so does every other car in the industry. However, a combined mpg of 25, in the stop-and-go suburban scenario isn't too bad to consider. With the 16-gallon fuel tank, the 2022 Kia Stinger pushes the range to a maximum of 470 miles on the highway, which isn't too bad either. Overall the car is decent but is still far from being called “efficient” in terms of fuel consumption.

As compared to the competition, the 2022 Kia Stinger doesn't do too bad. With the 25 mpg combined, the stinger is an average performer in terms of efficiency. Alfa Romeo comes out to be the most efficient with a mileage of 24 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. When comparing the range, Mercedes offers the most at 487 miles combined.

2022 Kia Stinger Interior

The manufacturer boasts a grand interior in the 2022 Kia Stinger. With the optional Nappa leather fittings in the seating and the dashboard, the 2022 Kia Stinger does come off as extravagant. However, the interiors seem more like GT’s instead of sports sedans. That may be a good thing for you, but for people looking for a minimalistic sports-styled cabin, the stinger isn't right on your expectations. Speaking of comfort, the well-cushioned seats and the soft-to-touch material feel nice and premium. However, the usual problem is that the 2022 Kia Stinger does feel a bit cramped for tall people in the rear row. However, for average-sized people, the 2022 Kia Stinger can easily accommodate 5 passengers.

Apart from comfort, the design of the interior is also quite modern and fluent. Also, the cabin has a sense of ergonomically planned interior, which gives you the optimal functionality. The infotainment system offered in the 2022 Kia Stinger is better than decent. The standard 7-inch touchscreen display is easy to understand and quite intuitive. However, you can upgrade that to a 10-inch display, which will be enough for all your entertainment needs. The speaker setup is also crisp when it comes to audio quality, hence completing the interior. The cabin is comfortable, premium, and filled with features, which is what you’d ask from a modern sports sedan.

As compared to the competition, the 2022 Kia Stinger is averagely sized. However, the trunk capacity of the stinger is way larger than that of the competitors, making it much more practical. The interior, albeit seemingly less luxurious than the European rivals, is highly practical and leaves not a lot of room for complaints. Major features of the infotainment system are:-

  • High-resolution touchscreen infotainment display
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • GT Line and up receive a very impressive Harman/Kardon audio system.
  • Wireless phone charger.
  • Smart navigation system linked with Cruise control

2022 Kia Stinger Exterior

Coming to the exteriors, the 2022 Kia Stingers has a great design and a sturdy build quality. The 2022 Kia Stinger is the textbook definition of “attractive”. A streamlined design, lowered floor, and edgy bodylines are what make the Stinger eye candy. The car has previously won awards for how great the styling is, and so it deserves. This year-round, the 2022 Kia Stinger is offered with more edgy pieces than before. The headlamps seem more aggressive and the front grille is actually made wider. The entire front fender seems more masculine, and the aerodynamics are well catered to. Overall, this car will make pedestrians look back without a doubt.

2022 Kia Stinger Competition

2022 Kia Stinger vs 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia

With the latest updates, the 2022 Kia Stinger surpasses the Giulia in terms of performance and interior comfort as well. Even though the Giulia feels more like an executive GT, the sporty feel of the former comes across as more relevant and appealing. Giulia manages to offer better fuel economy figures, still, Kia offers us a better proposition in the form of Stinger.

2022 Kia Stinger vs 2021 Infiniti Q50

Since the Infiniti Q50 has been in the market longer than the Stinger, it has more brand value and appeals to the customers. When comparing the engine outputs, Infiniti is not even close to what Kia offers. All in all, with the affordable pricing and great features, the Stinger makes a great impression and serves as a great option in this segment.

2022 Kia Stinger vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz C300

The German automobile manufacturer has much more credibility and more premium interiors as compared to the South Korean Kia. However, the latter offers a more affordable sports sedan, which results in greater market penetration. Also, the better trim levels offer great competition to the C300, which makes it a lucrative option to consider.

2022 Kia Stinger Final Verdict

If you’re looking for a versatile and more adaptive vehicle, the 2022 Kia Stinger is one of the best options available in the market. Moreover, with affordable pricing and great features, the Stinger has more appeal in the industry. With a comfortable and premium interior set up along with a stylish exterior, the 2022 Kia Stinger comes across as a lucrative sports sedan amongst the rivals.
