The automobile sector around the world was baffled as a legendary sports car manufacturer announced the launch of an SUV late in 2017, this sentence is enough to hint about the ravaging Lamborghini Urus. However, it was not new for the Italians as they had produced the LM002 or popularly known as the ‘Lamborghini truck’. The Urus was designed based on the Audi Q7 platform as a coupe-SUV, it created a benchmark, broke a few records, and today stands as one of the greatest SUVs of all time.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Since the hype of this super-SUV has now been normalized, get ready to hear more praises about the 2022 Lamborghini Urus as there is a really exciting addition to be expected in the new lineup. The Italian sports car manufacturer has entered an elite squad after the invention of Urus as it competes with some of the unique vehicles ever made like the Bentley BentaygaPorsche Cayenne Turbo S e-Hybrid Coupe, and Aston Martin DBX.

2022 Lamborghini Urus Features

It is not uncommon for high-performance supercars to come in trim levels, but usually, the trims do have something to do with the body style or engine option. However, the Urus, being rather unique already, decides to offer pearl paints in its only other trim. Both Base and Pearl Capsule trims are armed to the teeth with everything high-speed and luxurious. It falls in a price range that extends from $220,000 for its base variant and goes up to $240,000 for its top-rack variant.

12-Way Power Adjustable Seating

In addition to /replacing Base features:

Torque Vectoring AWD

Pearl paint options to choose from

Air suspension

Four-zone climate control

We Recommend

Our suggestion here is simple if you have got over $200k to spend on a vehicle, considering the future costs of maintenance, another $20k just couldn't pinch your pocket at all, therefore the Pearl Capsule variant is the one to go for with all the gizmos and add-ons Lambo has to offer. Unless you don’t like the pearl paints, in which case it's your money, you get to decide.

There have been no official listings, but the 2022 Lamborghini Urus would easily cost somewhere around $225,000, just a couple of thousands more than what it currently costs. The PHEV is mostly coming next year, but the price tag has not yet been set. Whatever the price, Urus is a legendary SUV and surely worth the shot.

Release date

Lamborghini has not yet made anything official about its super-SUV, but we expect that it will be launched in the states early in 2022, whereas the European countries would enjoy this beauty by the end of this year.

2022 Lamborghini Urus Engine and Performance

Since the whereabouts of the PHEV powertrain are unknown, the gas-powered 4.0L twin-turbo V8 is still a great engine to be carried over in the 2022 Lamborghini Urus. This intercooler DOHC engine produces staggeringly high power and torque output of 641 HP and 627 lb-ft, respectively, to all four wheels. This monstrous engine is paired to an equally performing transmission, which brings out unbelievable results for the segment. Officially tested, the super-SUV does 0-62 MPH in just 3.6 seconds, whereas the top speed reaches as high as 190 MPH. The Urus is expected to complete a standing quarter-mile within just 11-and-a-half seconds at a speed of 121 MPH.

Moreover, there are 17.32-inches of carbon-ceramic disc brakes in the front and 14.5-inches in the rear. This combination makes the almost 5,000 lbs of hulking SUV stop from 60 MPH in just 110.5 feet, which is very impressive. Because of its sloping roof and dynamic exterior styling, the SUV handles just like any other Lamborghini. The Urus’s Pirelli tires and amazing suspension make the ride exciting and also adds a little off-roading capability to it.

The glorious V8 produces an unbeatable power that cannot be matched even by Bentley's W12, however, the latter gets the best torque. The Porsche Cayenne shows the best figures on paper as it gets an additional rush of power and torque from its electric-hybrid powertrain. However, Urus EVO would definitely be more powerful than its German counterpart. On the other hand, the Aston Martin DBX is a little easier on the pocket, and it hardly touches the limits set by the competition and offers limited performance.

2022 Lamborghini Urus Fuel Economy

The new PHEV trim might show some increase in the MPG figures for this superfast SUV, but since the base of the Lamborghini Urus is the same for 2022, the MPG will also remain the same as that of the current model. As per the official sources, in the city, the Urus gives 12 MPG, whereas, on the highways, it shoots up to 17 MPG. The fuel tank capacity is nearly 20 gallons, which gives an acceptable range to the Italian SUV, considering its magnificent performance.

Because of a low-powered engine, the DBX leads this section. Though the MPG figures might appear lower than the hybrid Cayenne, its tank capacity is the greatest, and so is the range. This is followed by the second British SUV named Bentley, which has nearly the same amount of tank capacity, but because of the 12-cylinder engine, the efficiency is low. The Cayenne is the clear winner in terms of fuel efficiency because of the hybrid powertrain.

2022 Lamborghini Urus Interior

The interiors of the Urus never needed any updates as it is already quite futuristic and sporty in terms of design and layout. For 2022, Lamborghini will mostly keep its design language and hexagonal theme that everyone seems to adore. Starting with the cabin, durable materials like smooth plastic and Alcantara can be seen all over it, whereas, on the dashboard and center console, a few metal inserts add a touch of elegance. There are quite a lot of buttons, but they are well laid out and are pretty handy. Moreover, the gear and drive selector layout is inspired by the Aventador and resembles the controls of a fighter jet.

The cabin is highly spacious and has a standard rear bench seat that makes space for 5 adults to squeeze in just fine for a short ride. A seating capacity of 4 is also available with a rear center console and two multimedia screens. The Urus comes with a sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control, and interior ambient lighting. The seats are excellent in terms of comfort, and there is plenty of room in the front and rear but taller passengers around 6 feet might rub their head on the liner. Moreover, the instrument cluster is fully digital, whereas there are two high-resolution infotainment screens on the center console where the top half is your main display and the lower half is used to control the air conditioning, seating, and other similar controls.

*2021 MY data for reference

Although these are SUVs, all of them lack in terms of cargo capacity. Surprisingly, the DBX has the highest capacity of them all. You would expect the Bentayga to offer great cargo space as the most conventionally shaped SUV being compared, but it offers less storage space than the Urus despite the coupe body style. The Lamborghini Urus may be a rapid super-SUV, but it isn’t a lightweight roadster from the stables of the charging bull. It is a luxurious SUV designed with purpose but plenty of finesse as well and provides the convenience required to go up against the likes of the Bentayga. Its most notable interior features include:

  • Cockpit inspired interior design
  • Alcantara leather upholstery
  • 3-screen layout for drivers information display and infotainment control
  • 8-speaker sound system upgradeable to a Bang & Olufsen system
  • Heated, ventilated seats that double as a masseuse (optional)

2022 Lamborghini Urus Exterior

For 2022, the current styling will continue as the design is fairly modern. However, there are talks that the EVO trim might have a redesigned front fascia, but that is not yet official. Whatever the Italian manufacturer has planned, the current design is very beautiful, which is available in 7 bright colors and 4 different trim designs to choose from. Starting from the front, the Urus gets a rugged look with the combination of its boldly cut hood, hexagonal front grille, and razor-sharp front bumper. This is accompanied by the LED headlights along with signature Y-shaped DRLs that are tightly packed inside the headlight unit. The same design language is continued at the rear.

Taking a glance from the side, Lamborghini has put in a ton of effort to bring out their racing car characters in an SUV with utter brilliance. That being said, the Y-shape signature design can also be noticed on the wheel arches, and the look is made stronger with a simple line slashed across the doors that gradually changes into a curve and slowly fades towards the rear, something that can also be observed in the modern Jaguar F-Pace. Additionally, the brake calipers are also available in 4 different colors, whereas the 21-inch wheels look great along with the aggressively styled body.

While the Urus's compactness can be noticed in the measurements, the Italian SUV is also the lightest of all. The Urus is designed so that it appears smaller than it is, keeping true to the design language of Lamborghini. On the other hand, the Bentley is the longest, widest, and tallest of all, which seems like it will hamper maneuverability (which it just doesn’t) and makes for significant road presence which is typical of Bentley. Exterior highlights of the 2022 Lamborghini Urus are-

  • Unmistakable exterior
  • Muscular wheel arches
  • Imposing front fascia
  • 21” alloys
  • LED headlamps with DRLs

2022 Lamborghini Urus Safety

The 2022 Lamborghini Urus will have the same safety features as the current model. Some innovative features like roll stabilization system, active rear torque vectoring, four-wheel-steering, etc. are standard. Furthermore, it adds driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and an available self-parking assist. With low production volume, it is highly unlikely that the Urus will ever be crash-tested. However, the Urus is based on Audi's Q7 platform, which has proven itself to be one of the safest vehicles currently in production. The Lamborghini Urus is also available with an ADAS package which includes:

  • Surround-view camera
  • Heads-Up Display
  • Adaptive Cruise Assist
  • Active Lane Assist
  • Active Lane Departure Warning
  • Turning & Collision Avoidance Assist
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Emergency Braking Assist
  • Blind Spot Assistant
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Assistant

2022 Lamborghini Urus Competition

Lamborghini Urus vs. Bentley Bentayga Speed

While these two are excellent performers in their own rights, both the SUVs show similar performance figures in a way that can’t be more different. The Bentayga Speed has a smooth W12 motor that diminishes the sensation of speed, while the twin-turbo V8 in the Urus is brutish and lively. From the outside, both vehicles are quite distinct. The Bentley is quite conservative in terms of its design, while the Urus looks like a spaceship that is ready to take off. This is also true for the interior styling, where Lamborghini is just as exciting and wild on the inside as it is from the outside. While the Bentayga has a classier and luxury cabin with more traditional trims options to choose from.

Lamborghini Urus vs. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S e-Hybrid Coupe

The Cayenne has the same engine layout with similar performance figures. Yet somehow, it lacks the neck-snapping power delivery of the Urus. On the contrary, the Cayenne feels smoother, more relaxed, and torquey due to its hybrid system. Moving on towards the design, Porsche retains its signature look as does the Lamborghini. However, the Urus appears more rugged and sporty than the Cayenne. From the inside, the Porsche has a simple and distinct design throughout the cabin, while the Lamborghini sports a racy and hexagonally-dominated design theme. Though Porsche has an unfair advantage over the MPG figures, it lacks the smart safety features that are provided in the Urus which balances the equation.

Lamborghini Urus vs. Aston Martin DBX

While the DBX appears notoriously fast, one could easily say that the Urus’ shape is more aerodynamically advantageous as it is one of Lamborghini’s cleanest and more refined designs. Additionally, the Urus’ exteriors are more customizable than the Aston's. Talking about their interior, both of them have highly attractive cabins, typical of their brands. Lamborghini opts for a sleek and sporty-looking cabin using some modern materials, whereas the DBX takes a completely different path and sports a beautifully crafted cabin with classy materials. Considering the performance, there is a huge difference as the Aston Martin has a lot to cover in terms of power and torque when compared to the Urus. However, the DBX is not underpowered by any means.

2022 Lamborghini Urus Final Verdict

The Lamborghini Urus is lightning-fast and makes every commute full of thrills and excitement while being fairly practical, especially when compared to other supercars offered by the brand. Lamborghini has always been on the top when it comes to building outrageous supercars. The decision to expand and apply their skills and craftsmanship to the SUV segment was a surprising one, and just like always, the Italians created a masterpiece. The Lamborghini Urus has brought with it a new segment of super SUVs, and we recommend one.
