The Land Rover Discovery continues to adorn the same insides as the previous model year without any noticeable changes, as some major updates were brought about just last year. Without a doubt, the Discovery’s interior is one that could be tagged deluxe, and with the updates in tech that came in recently, the place has become more functional than ever. If you have been inside the pre-updated fourth generation of Discovery SUVs, the cabin might feel similar in layout and ergonomics, but you can deny the fact that the overall opulence has gone up by miles.
2022 Land Rover Discovery SUV Dashboard View
If the cabin of the old iterations looked “meh”, this model with its updated materials, fancy gadgetry including a configurable HVAC panel, crisper 11.4-inch infotainment, and the massive 12.3-inch driver display take it right up there with the best in the segment when it comes to modernity and outright appeal. So is the 2022 Land Rover Discovery a good place to be in as rivals like the Audi Q7, the BMW X5, and the Mercedes Benz GLE Class? This section should give you a brief idea of that.
Talking about comfort, the Land Rover Discovery has never been complained to be a bad hauler. Despite some class-leading off-road capabilities, the on-road mannerisms of the SUV have been commendable (talking about the ride, not handling here). The front seats especially feel superb and have got any kind of adjustment and functionality you could ask for. The seats themselves are wide, the widest in its class for that matter, and are generally set high giving you the most commanding driving position this class has to offer. Despite the breath, all controls fall into hand easily and the entire can has a sense of better usability than before. However, the fancy HVAC control panel that we mentioned about in the overview, has a lot going on it and even integrates the terrain modes, which we think is a bit too much to take in at once.
2022 Land Rover Discovery SUV Front Seats
The second row of seats does offer similar comfort levels with adjustments for both fore-and-aft movement and recline angles. A grab handle on the B-pillar is a nice touch and is a giveaway for the actual intention of the SUV. However, despite the width of the cabin, we don’t think the center passenger is going to be comfortable given the short seat under thigh support and the weird bolstering at the center with protruding seatbelt buckles. You also get separate climate control at the rear and a few power outlet options including two USB types-C ports, a type-A port, and a 12V socket. If you feel are a bit of an adventurous family man, the third row of seats would be more than enough for your kids, and if not in use can be folded down to excavate a huge 45 cu.-ft. cargo hold

Despite being one of the SUVs here to support 3-row seating as standard, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery surprisingly has the shortest wheelbase here. This has affected its available legroom on the first two rows, which measures in at the lowest here. However, its wide body helps it regain points when it comes to seat width and helps it offer some of the roomiest seats here. Except for the rear legroom, the BMW X5 and the Mercedes GLE come almost identical in all dimensions and it mostly comes down to personal preference in deciding which one’s the better. Both also get two rows seating as standard while the third row is an option. The Audi Q7 on the other hand, we think has the best compromise of space between rows, and the class's longest wheelbase is definitely helping it here.
Some standout interior features of the 2022 Land Rover Discovery include:
14-Way Power driver seats / 8-way power passenger seat
Leather warped metal look multi-function steering wheel and shifter
Power tilt and telescopic adjustment with auto tilt-away
Remote keyless entry with illuminated entry
12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with (available) heads-up-display
How intuitive is the 2022 Land Rover Discovery’s infotainment system?
Land Rover’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system that we have been seeing on its vehicle since the new Defender, is definitely a noteworthy improvement over the one it replaces. The 11.4-inch display is slick, vibrant, and bright enough to be legible even under direct sunlight. The menu has been made simpler and the system is capable of over-the-air updates now, which is something new for Land Rover systems.
2022 Land Rover Discovery SUV Infotainment System
Basic features like Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, 4G LTE with hotspot, 360-degree camera, and Navigation do come as a part of the package. An 8-Speaker 180-watt audio system does duties as standard but you could opt for the Meridian Premium sound system. A 12.3-ich full digital driver’s display is also one offer with a high level of customization and is even capable of displaying a full-screen map on it if you desire so.
Standout infotainment features available with the 2022 Land Rover Discovery:
11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system
Standard Apple Carplay and Android Auto Connectivity
Connected Navigation Pro with real-time traffic display
Bluetooth/ Sirius XM radio
Surround view backup camera with top view

What are the creature comfort features inside the 2022 Land Rover Discovery?
For the price it commands, you could obviously equip the 2022 Land Rover Discovery with all the features one would even want on their luxury family SUV. Starting from the front, you get power adjustable and heated front seats, with 14-way adjustments for the driver and 8-way for the passenger. The latter also gets memory functions with the power tilt away steering making ingress and egress easier. You get some finely perforated leather seats with simulated leather covering most of the cabin's lower half, including the dashboard. You get separate rear climate controls (optional), a host of power outlets throughout the cabin, and a full panoramic moon roof. Honestly, we did not find anything missing in this SUV as you could find most things you would want with the optional packages. Features like rear seat power folding and rider height lowering function are also made available in the trunk to make packing stuff easier.
What is the cargo capacity on offer?
The 2022 Land Rover Discovery has lots of cargo room to offer. Measuring in at 45 cu.-ft. behind the second row, it is easily the biggest in its class. However the last row doe eat up a lot of cargo room and if occupied, narrows down the cargo capacity to just 9.1 cu-ft., which barely fits in three decent-sized duffle bags. You could also have the option to fold down the second row of seats to create a 75 cu.-ft. void, which should suffice most of your cargo hauling needs. The rear seats are also power-foldable through buttons in the trunk and the entire vehicle can be lowered to reduce the deck height to make it easier to load in heavier stuff.

To keep the game fair, when considering the actual cargo space between the second rows of all these SUVs, the 2022 Land Rover Discovery comes out on top with its huge 45 cu.-ft. trunk. You could call it sweeping the competition as the next biggest one on offer here is the Audi Q7, which measures a smidge under 36 cu.-ft. The BMW X5 and the Merc GLE, both measure under 34 cu.-ft. However, all these cars have a standard or optional third-row seating on offer and while that is set in its place, the Audi Q7 offers the most cargo room, with a maximum measured capacity of nearly 15 cu.-ft.
What are the other storage spaces inside?
Being essentially one of the utilitarian land Rovers out there, the in-cabin practicality and storage levels of the 2022 Discovery have been met satisfactorily. The basic crop of door bins and cup holders has been evenly spread throughout the cabin. In addition to the standard glove box, you do get a top-mounted lockable compartment, where you usually expect the passenger frontal airbag. The under-armrest pocket is huge and gets two USB C ports for connectivity with even options to fit in a chiller/cooler.
So, is the interior of the 2022 Land Rover Discovery luxurious and opulent enough?
Yes, obviously. Modern Land Rovers have always been known for their upmarket cabin and the new Discovery is no different. There is enough leather and soft touch material to keep you cocooned inside while you traverse this midsize SUV through the worst of road conditions. The ride is also pretty excellent and long rides are mostly tireless in both the first and second rows. There is no shortage of technology as well, with some of them taken too far for form rather than function. Chances of you getting disappointed with the cabin of the 2022 Land Rover Discovery are non-existent now given the amount of tech that has gone into it with the recent update which we think has upped the overall appeal level even further.
