Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The Land Rover Range Rover has a 10-year history of being the definitive luxury SUV, and 2014 is no different with its lightweight aluminum body and advanced 4WD system. The 2014 Range Rover combines a host of new technologies and refinements with the existing strengths of this prestigious and iconic British marque. Boasting class-leading all-terrain capability, build quality and ownership refinement. It competes with other huge guns like BMW X5 and Lincoln Navigator

Features
9.9/10

The 2014 Land Rover Range Rover is a five-passenger luxury SUV available in three trim levels: base, Supercharged, and Supercharged LWB (long wheelbase). An optional Executive Class seating package for the Supercharged models provides rear bucket seats and decreases passenger capacity to four.

All the trims come equipped with plenty of standard features like an adjustable air suspension, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, leather upholstery, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, and a heated steering wheel, LED light signature, heated and power-folding mirrors, automatic xenon headlights, privacy glass, keyless entry/ignition, tri-zone automatic climate control, eight-way power front seats and rear seats with manual recline.

We Recommend

Although every trim is appealing enough, if you are looking for the best balance of features and price, then you should go for the Land Rover Range Rover HSE. It includes a panoramic sunroof, 20-inch alloy wheels, and heated rear seats. Off-road enthusiasts should opt for the Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged. This model offers off-roading equipment with automatic terrain detection and low-range gearing.

Engine and Performance
8.1/10

Two engine options are offered on the 2014 Range Rover. The base model is powered by a supercharged V6 engine generating 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Second, there is a supercharged V8 with a larger displacement generating 510 horsepower as well as 461 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed automatic transmission that runs all four wheels is standard on both engines.

The V6 engine will propel the Range Rover from 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds, but the V8 engine will offer even more power. Off-road, it performs even better than its competitors, with four different modes of drive for different types of terrain. Those with off-road equipment which has been upgraded will have low-range gearing and will be able to detect the terrain type automatically. It is capable of towing 7,716 pounds.

Among this comparison, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator offers the most power with 380 horsepower, whereas the BMW X5 has only 300 horsepower. It takes a BMW just 6.9 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph, while it takes a Range Rover 9.2 seconds. In 7.2 seconds, the Navigator reaches 0-60 mph, which puts it between the Range Rover and X5.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

With the new supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine, the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover ditches its otherwise normally aspirated V-8. This results in improved fuel efficiency. Yet, it isn't the most efficient option in this segment. The 2014 Range Rover offers us a city mileage of 17 mpg, which improves to 23 mpg on the highway. Therefore, we get 19 miles per gallon on the combined trip. Furthermore, it also offers a fuel tank capacity of 22.5 gallons, so a maximum range of 517 miles can be achieved.

The BMW fuel tank has a capacity of 22.4 gallons, the same as that of the Range Rover. With a fuel tank capacity of 28 gallons, the Lincoln Navigator can cover 616 miles on one tank of fuel.

Interior
7.7/10

The 2014 Range Rover is equipped with a range of cutting-edge technology and interior refinements. The Range Rover offers a rich, high-end interior and the quietest ride in its class. For 2014, the Range Rover gets a new look inside, with new finishes and a more spacious glove compartment. The Range Rover’s modern interior features warm wood accents and high-end finishes. That means nothing is out of place, and everything is thoughtfully situated for maximum comfort and style.

There is room for five people in the 2014 Range Rover. Both the front as well as the rear seats provide a good amount of room for all passengers. While it falls behind its competitors in the headroom department, that doesn't seem to be a major issue. With a cargo capacity of 32.1 cu-ft, this vehicle can easily handle a week's vacation.
