Power was never an issue for this SUV, ever, and now it also comes with a torque-heavy diesel engine. This is a brawl of the giants and the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover is up against rivals like Lincoln Navigator, Lexus LX 570, and Cadillac Escalade. At a starting price of $89,500 this SUV might feel like a bargain but wait till you see the options and configurations, deception can be brutal sometimes.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Features

The base price of $90k is just there to lure you in, once you step inside the bubble it just keeps expanding. The trim levels are Base Range Rover, HSE, Autobiography, and SVAutobiography. There's one trim called Supercharged which slots in between the HSE & Autobiography trims which just includes 21-inch wheels, premium LED headlights, and a supercharged V8 engine. The base trim adds features like the Meridian infotainment system, 3 zone climate control, and leather upholstery along with a host of safety features.

The HSE trim adds heating to the seats and gets bigger wheels. Some more active safety features have made their way into this trim. The Autobiography edition will get the supercharged V8 as standard and a plethora of comfort features like massaging seats and an earth-shattering sound system. The top trim, SVAutobiography gets a better-tuned engine which returns more horsepower and some exterior specialties. Both the Autobiography trims can be had in longer wheelbase variants which costs $6,000 extra on the Autobiography and $24,000 extra on the SV.

Which trim should you buy?

The HSE trim level might look like a well-rounded option but then you would be compromising on a lot of things. The Autobiography edition would be our recommendation as it comes fully loaded with all those tiny packages and a powerful V8 Engine.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Engine and Performance

8.7/10

The 2019 Range Rover comes in 4 engine options. The base trim SUV has a 3.0L Supercharged V6 under the hood and develops 340 hp & 332 of torque. These power figures may seem inadequate for a 5000lbs vehicle but 7.7 seconds to reach the 60 MPH mark isn’t bad at all. A better tuned supercharged V6 is also available on the HSE trim which produces 380 hp & 339 lb-ft of torque.

The Autobiography trim comes with a 5.0L Supercharged V8 with 518 hp & 461 lb-ft of torque. This is the engine that does justice to this big SUV and does 0-60 MPH in 5 seconds. This is, isn’t it. Like the HSE trim, the SVAutobiography has its own fine-tuned variant of the V8 bumping up the power figures to 557 hp & 516 lb-ft of torque.

Now there’s a Plug-In hybrid Range Rover available with a 2.0L, Turbo inline-4 mill, and an electric motor with a combined output of 398 hp. With all this power the Range Rover can tow up to 7716 lb. on all the gasoline engines. The 3.0L turbodiesel variant will pull this load better with that 443 lb-ft of torque but will miss out on Horsepower, as expected. All the trims come with a 4WD and an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Driving this SUV daily can be described as effortless, for both, the driver and the SUV itself. The 8-speed transmission with the base V6 engine has enough power to pull this vehicle and the gas pedal responds accurately to the driver inputs, making the overall driving experience effortless.

Range Rover is definitely not meant for drag races and if you still wish to, the V8 engine is all there for your help. Maserati Levante GranLusso is the quickest and the fastest SUV in the group today because of its relatively light body and aerodynamic design. Lexus & Toyota both share the same engine yet Lexus is tuned for a relaxed driving experience and the Land Cruiser is all about raw power with a dash of luxury.

How well does the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover handle?

If there’s a luxury SUV that does off-roading as well as rides on the highways, it’s the Range Rover. The aluminum riveted chassis of this SUV gives it immense rigidity and that results in great handling for a vehicle of this size.

The air suspension setup does make it wonky a little on sharp corners but any sensible driver will know the limits of this machine. The steering response of the Rover is balanced and listens to the slightest of the inputs from the user. As it is evident you will feel that this is a heavy vehicle while driving but still does an amazing job at twisty roads.

The 2019 Range Rover comes with air suspension as standard and with those stock wheels, it offers a seriously plush driving experience. Getting bigger wheels, make the ride harsh and the tiniest road imperfection will be transferred inside the cabin, so just keep this in mind while blinging out with options. The off-road capability is something Rovers have known for over a century and this one doesn’t disappoint at all. The 4WD is always on the toes and with the help of that terrain response system, the SUV adjusts itself automatically depending on the terrain.

Braking Performance

Stopping this big luxury SUV isn’t going to be an easy task but the Rover comes equipped with capable brakes, 14.3 inches at the front and 13.8 inches at the rear. This setup stops the Rover in 124 feet which is great considering the weight but in a general sense not much. The brake pedal has longer than usual activation travel but this also means a steady gradual breaking overall. The Rover does dip quite a bit in panic braking situations but doesn’t sway from its path.

Lincoln & Cadillac both are super SUVs, much more than the host SUV and still have managed a decent braking distance. Though the Lexus LX 570 also weighs in similar with these big Americans it has done even better than both. Sensibly driving this SUV is the best idea to prevent mishaps. Well, it comes with a lot of safety features to mitigate such instances altogether so overall you are safe.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Fuel Economy

7.0/10

The 2019 Range Rover has excelled its rivals in the fuel economy and by a decent margin. Get the Turbodiesel engine you will see a 5 MPG bump over its gasoline counterpart. So overall. the Brits have done an amazing job not ripping you off in the name of luxury. The fuel tank capacity also is much better on the Rover allowing it a range of 519 miles combined, miles better than the rivals. See what I did here, chuckle.

Surprisingly, the Japanese have fallen behind in the fuel economy department. Well, it seems like they took the word luxury too seriously, not complaining, but they themselves have set the bar high. The Navigator has performed well considering its size and weight, it is all because of the turbo V6. You can see the fuel economy on Lexus and Escalade, both are NA V8’s.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Interior

7.8/10

The interior of the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover has a vintage vibe to it but not to the point of actually feeling old. Everything on the inside is covered in leather, everything. The dashboard design is flat and elegant. The huge infotainment displays and the fully digital instrument cluster make the interior look modern. On the base trim, glossy wooden inlays are used on the center console. The seats on this SUV are one of the most comfortable out there. Even the base trim offers immense adjustability options with massage functions.

The second-row seating is comfortable for 2 even though it’s advertised for 3, the center part of the seat is not enough for an adult to be comfortable. Only the base trim SUV has a bench-type seat. On higher trims, it gets replaced by a center console with cupholders. The seats can be reclined on both rows and are ventilated.

Range Rover offers a big cargo space in the trunk with over 31 cubic feet. The seats can be folded but the electronic folding mechanism takes too much time and if the front row seats are adjusted backward then you just might take a short walk till it finishes the whole mumbo jumbo.

The SUV height can be lowered electronically by just a press of a switch to attain a comfortable load height. On the inside there is an optional fridge that can be installed under the armrest, the door bins are huge and second passengers will have cup holders that block the climate control vents.

Some of the standout interior features are as follows:

  • Panoramic glass roof
  • Ambient lighting
  • Mini fridge
  • Four-zone climate control
  • Power-adjustable headrests with pillows

What’s there to keep you entertained?

When you pay $90k for a vehicle you're most certain about the features you will be getting. The 2019 Range Rover does come with a considerably good entertainment system as standard. The standard infotainment system has 2, 10-inch touchscreens one for entertainment and another for climate control and other features.

The sound system is powered by Meridian with a 380-watt setup which will be more than enough for 99% of the buyers. But no, I want to blow away my glass roof, yes you are covered. The Autobiography trims come with a 1700-watts, 23-speakers sound system. The most distinct shortcoming of this system is the initial startup time. It takes almost a full minute to start the screen once you put in the keys, after that it works fine.

Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are as follows:

  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 10-inch touchscreen
  • SiriusXM
  • Bluetooth
  • 1700-watt sound system
  • Navigation

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Exterior

9.3/10

If there are some designs, we would never want to change it to Range Rovers’. Land Rover isn’t trying to win any design awards, they found the design that works for them and for the buyers and now sticking to it till the very last drop of paint. The square, boxy shape of this SUV can be spotted from miles and this is something you achieve by keeping things simple.

At the front, you are greeted by the slimline LED headlights & DRLs and that perfectly sized grille. There are zero body lines on this vehicle except for the receded one on the beltline. Symmetry is on this SUV. The side profile of the Rover is what every SUV should take notes from. We love how they have kept the window pillars black as it creates a panoramic window effect.

Wish Americans implement this on their GMC’s and Cadillacs, their exterior design is so perfect for such styling. At the back, there’s just usual business with Ranger Rover badging and sporty rectangular exhaust tips.

Americans have mastered the art of building SUVs that have a style statement of their own, no one even comes close. While the Lexus is like a luxury family SUV by the looks of it, the Navigator and Escalade is for the people who get the job done with just a phone call and arrive when credit is due. You got what we mean right?

  • Auto-dimming rearview mirrors on the exterior and interior
  • Rain Sensing Windshield wipers
  • LED DRL's
  • LED Taillights
  • Front and Rear Fog Lights

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Safety

8.5/10

Luxury vehicles have been aloof from the crash tests for ages, it’s a norm nowadays. The 2019 Rover comes with standard active features that will do the job for most people and can be optioned with many more.

Some of the standout safety features are as follows:

  • Parking camera
  • Forward Collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane Keep assist
  • Parking sensors at front and back

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Competition

7.5/10

2019 Land Rover Range Rover vs 2019 Lexus LX 570

Lexus 570 is a great option if the Rover seems overpriced to you but the interior of the Lexus still looks a few years older. Cargo capacity is similar to the 2-row variant of the Lexus. Yea, it has the third-row seating advantage but those seats, you know, how comfortable those are. If you are fine with the blingy design and poor fuel economy, LX 570 is a great option to consider, at least it won’t inflate as you add up options, like the Rover.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover vs 2019 Lincoln Navigator

The Navigator is just better than the Rover in every aspect. The engine is much more powerful on the Lincoln. The interior is as luxurious as it can get, the dashboard design has a mix of vintage styling and modern technology. The trim we are comparing is the Navigator Reserve and at this point, it comes with every active safety feature that is out there. All this comes at $85k whereas the similarly optioned Range Rover will cost you upwards of $95k. be the judge yourself.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover vs 2019 Cadillac Escalade

The Escalade Premium Luxury has features, only the top trims of Rover have and those cost proper 6 figures. At this point, Cadillac has 22-inch wheels, all the active safety features standard, second-row entertainment. Even the Platinum trim is cheaper with massaging seats and wooden trims and much softer leather upholstery. There is no point in choosing the Rover over this American icon only except if you care about the British royalty certification it comes with.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Final Verdict

9.0/10

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover sure is an expensive vehicle to have, but it does some things better than the others and for that, it is worth the asking price. The kind of luxurious amenities you get in this rather classic-looking SUV is just superb. Range Rover isn’t just comfortable to drive, it can take on the harshest terrains you can imagine with ease. The design is timeless, you will still find it fresh even after decades if it lives till then. Unfortunately, reliability hasn’t been a friend to Land Rovers and that is the only gripe we have on this perfect luxury SUV otherwise.
