The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque was released around four years ago to occupy the space between the Range Rover and the Discovery Sport. Thus the Range Rover Evoque is a more affordable one in the lineup along with great convenience and luxury features. The Evoque saw a complete redesign in the year 2020 and also introduced new engine options. Thus we expect those engine options to carry forward for the 2022 Range Rover Evoque model.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Along with that, the top of the line P300 R-Dynamic HST is the new variant that replaces the previous P250 R-Dynamic HSE. The mild-hybrid variant which was discontinued a few years ago has made a comeback with the P300 R-Dynamic HST. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 mild hybrid engine generates around 296 hp along with 295 lb-ft of torque and is the most powerful as well as efficient in this lineup.

Features

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque will be available in five trim options, including the P250 R-Dynamic S and the P250 R-Dynamic SE. The rest of the three trim options are P50 S, P250 SE and the all-new P300 R-Dynamic HST. The major difference that we see in the P300 R-Dynamic HST trim is the mil-hybrid engine that is much more powerful than the base turbocharged engine. Here is a list of the features available with the individual trims.

Engine and Performance

6.6/10

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is now available in two engine options. The P250 trims are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine that generates 2246 hp along with 269 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission and delivers the power to all the wheels as standard. This standard engine is the same as the previous year’s model and thus we expect the same level of performance.

The P300 R-Dynamic HST gets the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine but has a mild-hybrid setup that provides much better overall performance with a higher power output of 295 hp along with 296 lb-ft of torque. The mild hybrid variant provides a better fuel economy. With the base engine, the Evoque accelerates from 0-60 mph in 7.0-seconds which is the slowest in this comparison, while the quarter mile distance is covered in 15.1 seconds.

*2021 Data used for reference

The Range Rover Evoque is the most expensive in this comparison, while the base model of the BMW X1 is the most affordable. But with the high price comes the higher power output from the Evoque. The Mercedes-Benz GLA provides us with the least power output of 221 hp, but still is the quickest from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The BMW X1 generates 228 hp, and is still quicker in 0-60 mph acceleration as compared to the Evoque.

How does the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Handle?

The Range Rovers have been sporty to handle. The higher curb weight along with higher ground clearance have always made it struggle through the corners. The driving dynamics is tuned more towards comfort, and this is what the Range Rover Evoque provides. The adaptive suspension system helps us vary the height of the vehicle when moving over different terrains.

The Range Rover Evoque is stable at high speeds as well and easily tackles the undulations of the road. This is assisted further by Land Rover’s Terrain response 2 system, which enhances the off-road travel experience with better control. If you are looking for more of an aggressive handling, the BMW X1 is the best option among the comparison.

Fuel Economy

7.5/10

While there is no official release or testing of the fuel economy provided by the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, the base engine is the same as previous year model and thus expected to provide the same fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city which improves to 27 mpg on the highway. Thus can get a combined fuel economy of 22 mph from the 2022 Range Rover Evoque.

*2021 Figures used for reference

With the lowest power output, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLA is the most fuel efficient with a combined fuel economy og 28 mpg, while the BMW X1 follows it with a combined fuel economy of 26 mpg. Thus even with a bigger 17.7 gallons of fuel tank capacity, the Range Rover Evoque would lack in the maximum range that it provides.

Interior

7.3/10

We expect no changes to the interior of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The previous 2021 model of Range Rover Evoque in itself is one of the best interior designs that we see in this segment. The dashboard layout is unique with the integrated infotainment screen. The interior of the Evoque is adorned with high-quality materials and thus feels very premium.

The seats get leather upholstery along with power adjustments and heating functionality.

The interior layout of the Range Rover Evoque was redesigned in 2020 and thus is much more modern. The driver sits quite high and thus gets a clear view upfront. The placement of the control switches as well as the infotainment screen is ergonomic and thus easy to reach from the front driver as well as the passenger seats. The Range Rover Evoque can occupy up to 5 passengers in total and provides generous spacing at the front. But as we move towards the rear, the legroom is limited and thus feels a bit cramped.

The BMW X1 provides the best spacing for the passengers at the front as well as the rear. All the vehicles can carry up to 5 passengers in total, but the Mercedes-Benz GLA provides limited spacing for the passengers at the rear. The BMW X1 provides the best-in-class cargo capacity of 27.1 cu.-ft. behind the rear seats, while the Range Rover Evoque follows it with 25.5 cu.-ft. of cargo capacity. The Mercedes-Benz GLA provides the least cargo capacity of 17.2 cu.-ft. Here are few of the exterior features of the 2022 Range Rover Evoque:

  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 12-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Heating front seats
  • Leather upholstery
  • Ambient cabin lighting

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque: Infotainment and Connectivity

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque received an all-new infotainment system for the 2021 model, hence we expect to see no major change to the infotainment system of the 2022 Range Rover Evoque. The Pivi Pro infotainment system is intuitive and brings in much more features like 10-inch touchscreen, over-the-air updates, Spotify music streaming, and wireless charging.

Along with that, it gets smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the top P300 R-Dynamic HST variant we get a 400-watt, 12-speaker Meridian audio system which provides exceptional surround sound experience inside the cabin. Here is a list of the infotainment features that are available with the 2022 Range Rover Evoque:

  • 10-inch touchscreen
  • Spotify music streaming
  • Wireless charging
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • USB ports
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Wi-Fi
  • Satellite radio

Exterior

8.0/10

With a major redesign of the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, we do not expect major changes to the exterior of the 2022 Range Rover Evoque. The Evoque is a sleek looking SUV that has high build-quality and looks premium overall. The all-new 2nd generation of the Range Rover Evoque is a considerable upgrade, but still has the characteristics of a Range Rover. It also has a few quirks like the invisible door handles that align with the body of the SUV, and detracts as we approach the vehicle.

The Range Rover Evoque is the heaviest in this comparison with a curb weight of 3933 pounds. It is not the longest, but is the widest and tallest among the competition. The Evoque also has the highest ground clearance of 8.4-inches which makes it a beast on the off-roads. Combine that with the 20-inch alloy wheels and thus complete the look of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

The 2021 BMW X1 is the longest in this comparison, while the Mercedes-Benz GLA has the longest wheelbase which assists in better rear seat passenger spacing. The Mercedes sits quite closer to the ground at 5.3-inches while the BMW X1 has a considerable 7.2 inch of ground clearance. Here is a list of the exterior features that are available with the 2022 Range Rover Evoque:

  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Flush door handles
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Adjustable suspensions
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers

Safety

8.0/10

The new 2nd generation Range Rover Evouqe has not been crash tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS, thus there is no crash-test data to look at. But rest assured, the Range Rover Evoque is based on a strong platform that has capabilities to withstand high impact forces. Along with that, the Evoque manages to keep these impact forces away from the passenger compartment that helps keep the passengers safe. The previous year Range Rover Evoque has multiple safety and driver assistive features that further added to the passenger security. Here is a list of few of the key safety features:

  • Lane keep assist
  • Blind-spot assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Driver attention warning
  • Traffic sign recognition

Final Verdict

It seems like we need to wait for quite some time to get our hands on the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque since it is still in the development stage. Through our analysis it seems that there are no major changes to be seen in the 2022 model, and thus you can directly opt for the 2021 model as well.
