Ever since its introduction in the market, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is known to be one of, if not the best-looking SUVs on the market, and was an instant success since it was launched. This is why instead of reinventing like its counterparts, it remains true to the core qualities that made it such an icon in the first place such as ravishing visuals, good ride quality, and a top-notch cabin with an ample level of technology. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic will go through some minor changes, and we will also see some new powertrain options.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque was completely redesigned in 2020, and it carries forward the same design to the 2022 model year also. The mild-hybrid motor has made a comeback with the 2022 model, which was discontinued earlier. The P250 R-Dynamic will be replaced by the P-300 R-Dynamic, and the SUV rivals the likes of the Volvo XC60BMW X3, and Mercedes Benz GLC-Class. The competitors are pretty strong, but the Evoque R-Dynamic is still one of the best choices in the segment for many reasons. Read the complete articles to find out why?

Even after changes in trim levels, the Land Rover Evoque R-Dynamic is still available in three trim levels, i.e., S, SE, and HST. Varying from $45,375 to $53,900, these trims can easily cover a vast variety of buyers, and yes, an all-wheel-drive system is standard on all. As for the features, the Base ‘S’ trim comes with 18-inch wheels, auto-dimming rearview mirror, power tailgate, keyless entry, wireless phone charging with a single booster, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats, and many more.

The SE upgrades over it by having bigger 20-inch wheels, 3D surround-view camera, updated LED headlights and an upgraded infotainment system including dual 10-inch touchscreen displays. The top trim ‘HST’ comes with an enhanced hybrid engine configuration, unique exterior styling, premium sound system, and luxury features such as sliding panoramic roof, heated steering wheel, and DuoLeather upholstery.

We recommend

Although all three trims look interesting, we would suggest going for the mid-level ‘SE’ trim priced at $50,075. This not only does come with all the features from lower-trim but also updates over it by having an upgraded infotainment system which includes Dual 10-inch infotainment touchscreens and a 3D surround-view camera. The perforated Windsor leather seats offer an adequate level of comfort. We would recommend going for the Black Exterior pack, Cold Climate pack, and Dynamic Handling pack, which as the names suggest, further enhance the Evoque by adding more style and control.

Release Date

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is expected to launch by the end of 2021. There will be a very slight jump in the base price of the SUV compared to the ongoing model year. The return of some of the older powertrain options makes the 2022 Range Rover an exciting package.

Engine and Performance

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 Litre Inline-4 cylinder engine. It produces 246 horsepower and a torque of 269 lb-ft. The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, and the power is sent to all four wheels. The engine might be a bit slower for its segment as it manages to reach 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and should be able to finish a quarter-mile within 15.5 seconds (estimated timing). The automatic transmission is decent enough to provide smooth driving. For 2022, the HST trim is also available with a mild-hybrid turbocharged 2.0 Litre inline-4 cylinder engine with 296 horsepower, which surely amps up the experience.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R Dynamic SUV driving view

Sure, the four-cylinder might be slower for its segment, but the driving experience you get is easily one of the best in its class. This is not possible without a competent steering wheel and suspension system. Fortunately, Land Rover worked on both. The steering wheel mostly feels lightly weighted with decent feedback from the road, which makes it very easy to control sharp corners. Going fast on highways and changing lanes shouldn’t be a problem either. As for the suspension system, the Evoque can easily eliminate medium to large bumps. But beware that every bump results in a bouncy behavior that will take time to adjust.

No matter how decent Evoque’s four-cylinder engine performs on the road, when compared to its rivals, it easily falls behind the others as all three rivals are faster. However, the mild-hybrid engine should be able to catch up with its rivals easily. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is the fastest SUV in the comparison as it takes only 5.4 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph and the quarter-mile run takes 14.2 seconds. The 2021 Volvo XC60 is marginally ahead of the 2021 BMW X3 in terms of outright acceleration, and both of them take similar time in the 0 to 60 mph sprint.

Fuel Economy

If a powerful engine comes with bad fuel economy, then it seems understandable. However, in the case of the Evoque R-Dynamic, the four-cylinder engine offers one of the worst fuel economies as you get a mileage of 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highways, and 22 mpg when combined. These numbers look decent enough if compared to previous year models, but take it against other vehicles in its segment, and you will feel disappointed. Land Rover tried to compensate for the poor economy by loading a 17.7 gallons fuel tank, which manages to offer a decent driving range varying from 354 to 477.9 miles.

When stacked against its rivals, the Evoque R-Dynamic offers a fuel economy that is lesser than the others. However, the fuel tank capacity is better than what you will find inside Merc GLC-Class and BMW X3. The Volvo XC60, on the other hand, takes the lead here by offering a bigger fuel tank that results in a better driving range than the others. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic offers the least highway driving range for the segment, but it is not too bad for an SUV of this size.

The interior of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic is as impressive as it is from the outside. The wide doors offer easy ingress, and once you get inside, the interior design is jaw-dropping with one of the best material qualities. Everything looks gorgeous with two-tone-colored interior trims. The leather-wrapped steering wheel looks equally interesting but can be upgraded with heated functionality. The occupants are going to find an excellent level of comfort and luxury when inside.

At the front, there are 12-way power-adjustable bucket seats, and yes, these heated seats. The seats are very comfortable and provide great support for long trips. The dashboard feels very premium too. The touchpoints are made of soft-touch materials that make the overall experience even more luxurious. The driving position is very comfortable, and the driver gets good visibility of the road ahead. You feel like you are driving a real SUV, which is not the case with some of the other rivals as they feel more like a crossover.

Rear Row (Headroom/Shoulder Room/Legroom, in inches)

Trunk Capacity (cubic feet)

As for the rear, a 40/20/40 split-folding bench seat comes standard. All seats come with premium quality material, but the front row seats offer more room than what you will find in the rear. Still, three passengers can sit very comfortably at back. They will not complain about the space, and the comfort is also on the premium side. The cabin feels very ambient, and you don’t feel claustrophobic even on long trips. Voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control and panoramic roof are also available.

The 2022 Evoque R-Dynamic offers one of the biggest cabins in its segment. However, there is a shortage of legroom for rear-row occupants when compared to the rivals. The cargo capacity it offers is better than that of Merc GLC-Class but falls behind both X3 and XC60. When we compare it with rivals, it might look like that the space is not enough in the cabin, which is not the case in the real life. The cabin is very spacious and comfortable for a family of five. Major interior features include:

  • 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats
  • Keyless entry
  • Voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Interactive driver display
  • Manual Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column
  • Cruise control

What’s there to keep you entertained?

For entertainment, the Evoque R-Dynamic comes with a pretty good infotainment system. The base trim of the SUV comes with a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by Rover’s Pivi Pro which we cherish as the display is fully responsive and the UI is very intuitive. Both SE and HST come with dual 10-inch touchscreen displays, which elevate the experience.

Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard. Features such as Bluetooth phone connectivity, SiriusXM, WiFi hotspot, and Power socket pack 1 which loads multiple power outlets and USB ports are also available. The standard six-speaker sound system is average, but the updated 14 speakers Meridian premium sound system is worth the upgrade. Below are some of its key infotainment features:

  • Dual 10-inch infotainment touchscreens
  • Apple CarPlay support
  • Android Auto support
  • SiriusXM
  • Navigation system with real-time traffic
  • Bluetooth phone connectivity
  • 14 speakers premium Meridian sound system

Remember when we mentioned above how looking amazing is one of Evoque’s traits? Well just take a look, and it might hypnotize you as the exterior design is fabulous. At the front, you get sharp LED headlamps with a chrome grille in the middle and a very minimalistic front bumper design. On the sides, you will find black trimmed windows trim, power side mirrors, and body-colored door handles that sit flush into the exterior only come out when the proximity key is in range.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R Dynamic SUV

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque looks like a traditional old-school has spent some time in the ultra-modern society. It looks astonishing and intimidating like an SUV but is also a very modern design at the same time. On top, a lip spoiler and a sliding panoramic sunroof are available. The top trim of the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic comes with unique exterior styling which turns most shiny components into black ones. These changes are available for lower trims via package.

When stacked against its rivals, the Evoque comes out lighter than the others. However, the other vehicles are a bit bigger dimensions-wise. The 8.3 inches of ground clearance Evoque offers is impressive for traversing rough terrains. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic is the shortest SUV in its segment and also comes with the shortest wheelbase. But when it comes to the width, it is the widest SUV of the segment, which makes better space for three passengers in the rear.Major exterior highlights of the SUV include:

  • 20 inch 5 split-spoke wheels
  • Power folding heated side mirrors
  • Power tailgate
  • LED brake lights
  • Lip Spoiler
  • Rear Fog Lamps

Yes, the 2022 Land Rover Evoque hasn’t been crash-tested yet, but seeing how it is still in production after all these years explains how good it must be. The level of control it offers is amazing, on top of that, it comes with an amazing set of safety features such as dynamic stability control, roll stability control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning system, cruise control, and automatic emergency braking system. These features are competent and assure maximum survivability of the vehicle and its occupants. Below are some of its key safety features:

  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • The automatic emergency braking system
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning system
  • 3D surround-view camera

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic vs 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC Class

Going against the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is natural for Evoque as these two have been strong rivals for years. When compared, the Mercedes GLC-Class takes the lead by offering a better performance on the road, much better fuel economy, and impressive braking performance. The Evoque R-Dynamic, on the other hand, offers better cargo capacity and stunning visuals. At last, the choice remains yours.

2021 Mercedes Benz GLC Class

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic vs 2021 BMW X3

Going against the BMW X3 is a tough one for Evoque as not only BMW is faster on the road but also offers impressive fuel economy and driving range. On top of that, the volume for occupants and cargo is far superior. The Evoque, on the other hand, offers better braking power. If you want driving engagement, then the BMW X3 is a better choice. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic is a better option for those who want more luxury and a traditional SUV look.

2021 BMW X3

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic vs 2021 Volvo XC60

Despite being heavier than the Evoque, the Volvo XC60 is faster on the road and offers better mileage. Combine it with one of the biggest fuel tanks in its segment, and you get an impressive driving range. Even the cargo capacity and room for occupants are better than the Evoque. Once again, the Evoque only offers better braking performance.

2021 Volvo XC60

Final Verdict

No matter what competition throws at it, the Evoque faces it head-on. It offers a confident ride quality and a decent-sized cabin oozing with style and luxury. The exterior design is equally mesmerizing, and the adequate level of technology makes it great. Only the poor fuel economy, when taken for a long drive, creates doubt. So if you can get over that, then yes you should buy the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic.
