Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The new Lexus LC 500 Coupe is all set to bring some serious performance upgrades to the ongoing model with enhanced agility as well. The current generation LC 500 Coupe is powered by a 5.0L naturally-aspirated V8 engine that does a good job to pull the car in any driving condition. But you can feel the engine struggling sometimes as the LC 500 Coupe is a heavy car. The 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe competes against the likes of the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, BMW M850i, and the Nissan GT-R.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Features

The 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe comes in a single trim level that is well equipped with a wide range of features. The standard features with the 2022 LC Coupe include LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable steering wheel, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, a 10.3-inch infotainment screen, an integrated navigation system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, and onboard Wi-Fi with 4G LTE connection. You also get driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring system, and forward collision mitigation as standard with the LC 500 Coupe.

We recommend

The 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe looks like a very promising car considering the specs. The standard features are good enough for the segment and cover everything that you expect from a car of this segment. Since it is already a very expensive car that touches the $200,000 mark, we do not recommend many additional features.

If you are serious about performance, then you can get the handling package that will add features like sport seats with microsuede inserts, carbon-fiber or glass roof panel, Torsenengines limited-slip differential for improved grip, upgraded brake pads and suspension dampers, 21-inch wheels, rear steering and variable-ratio steering, and a speed-activated rear wing.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Release Date

There is no official data yet on the release date of the 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe. You can expect the release of the specs of the 2022 LC C500 Coupe soon. The release of the Lexus LC 500 Coupe is expected next year.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Engine and Performance

The ongoing model of the Lexus LC 500 Coupe comes powered by a 5.0L naturally-aspirated V8 engine that used to produce 471 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. The power figures are not less but it does struggle sometimes to carry the weight of the Lexus LC 500 Coupe. The new Lexus LC 500 Coupe has addressed the concern with the 2022 model year update. The 2022 Lexus LC 500 will come powered by a powerful 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine.

The exact specifications of the engine are not released yet but based on leaks, the engine is capable of producing a peak power of 660 horsepower. The torque output has also increased and now you get a peak torque of 480 pound-feet. The engine is mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels. The new transmission is there to solve the problem that was there with the ongoing model which used to feel sluggish at times. We do not know much about how the engine will perform in the real world. But based on the specifications and the power figures, it should be a massive upgrade over the current generation of the car.

The Lexus LC 500 Coupe does not feel as nimble as some of the other rivals in the segment. The strength of the LC 500 Coupe lies inroads with not-so-sharp corners. You can get the Handling package that gets bigger wheels and some other bits that makes the handling better than the standard LC 500 Coupe. The comfort inside the cabin is better than some rivals. The ride quality feels very composed and you do not get the feeling of a stiff sports car.

The 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe has now become one of the most powerful engines with the new engine upgrade. The 2021 Nissan GT-R is the fastest car in the segment for now since we do not have the acceleration figures of the 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe. The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe takes 3.5 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The 2021 BMW M850i also offers identical acceleration figures to the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Fuel Economy

As the 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe is coming with a new engine that has not been tested on the road yet, we do not know about the fuel efficiency figure of the car. If we consider the fuel economy of the present engine, it delivers 16 mph in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and a combined fuel economy of 19 gallons. The fuel economy is one area that still needs to be tested for the 2022 model year. One thing is for sure that the Lexus LC 500 Coupe comes with one of the biggest fuel tank capacities in the segment.

The 2021 BMW M850i offers the best in class fuel economy figures. None of the cars in the segment offer exceptional fuel efficiency, and they are not even supposed to deliver excellent fuel efficiency. The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R coupe offers better fuel economy compared to the 2021 Nissan GT-R when it comes to highways. Other than that, the fuel economy of the F-Type R Coupe and the Nissan GT-R offers similar fuel economy figures.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Interior

The interior of the Lexus LC 500 Coupe has never been a problem for the car. The interior is well laid out and you will not have any complaints about the cabin quality of the car. The front seats offer good support to the passengers but feel on the firmer side. The dashboard gets plenty of soft-touch materials and feels rich with premium leather. The Alcantara upholstery inside the cabin of the car enhances the overall ambiance of the car.

All the controls inside the cabin are easy to use and practicality is well thought out inside the cabin. The visibility from the driver’s seat is good for a sports coupe and there is no such blind spot that bothers you while driving. The rear seats are not that spacious which is normal for the segment. However, considering the other rivals in the segment, the space does not feel that bad and you can use it occasionally. The cargo area of the Lexus LC 500 Coupe will not impress the buyers and does not offer much space.

The 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe offers decent space for the front passengers. The 2021 Nissan GT-R offers the best legroom in the segment for the front passengers and the driver. The legroom for the front passengers remains marginally lower in the Lexus LC 500 Coupe but it compensates for it with the best in class legroom for rear passengers. The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe has no rear row of seating and comes in a two-seater configuration only. Standout interior features in the 2022 Lexus LC 500 are:

  • 8 -way power front seats
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
  • Keyless ignition
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Dual-zone front climate control

What is there to keep you entertained in the 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe?

Lexus has well taken care of your entertainment needs inside the Lexus LC 500 Coupe. It comes equipped with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display that acts as the control center for all the infotainment and most of the cabin features. The display offers good graphics and is very easy to use. The only downside is that it is not as intuitive as some of the other rivals, and you can feel the lag in the system at times. However, it is not that laggy that you get frustrated with it. You can live with the screen and other bits in the cabin make up for it well.

The screen also comes with a ton of connectivity features to keep you connected at all times. You get USB ports for wired connectivity with your smartphone. You also get Bluetooth connectivity if you do not like wires. Apple CarPlay has also long been a part of the infotainment kit since the 2020 model year. It is expected that the 2022 model year will feature Android Auto too. The standard sound system with the 2022 Lexus LC 500 is a 12-speaker audio system that sounds great. Standout infotainment features in the 2022 Lexus LC 500 are:

  • A 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • AM/FM stereo
  • SiriusXM radio
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Amazon Alexa smartphone integration
  • Onboard Wi-Fi with 4G LTE connection
  • In-built navigation
  • 12-speaker audio system

2022 Lexus LC 500 Exterior

Although exterior styling is a subjective topic, we are pretty damn sure that the Lexus LC 500 Coupe will impress you with its styling in the first look itself. The LC 500 Coupe is without a doubt one of the best-looking Lexus and is also among the best-looking coupes in the segment. The front design welcomes you with the aggressive Lexus Nose that becomes even more aggressive with the massive black grille. It helps you recognize that it is a Lexus when you see it from a distance. The sleek and striking headlights also compliment the overall sporty and aggressive front design language of the car.

The design from the sides looks proportionate and everything is well thought of by the engineers at Lexus. The 20-inch wheels go well with the car, but the bigger 21-inch wheels make the stance even sportier. The LC 500 Coupe looks wider from the rear end when you look at it from the sides or the front. The rear end carries forward the same design language and it is not a boring rear design like some of the rivals. The quad-exhaust and sleek LED brake lights to add an extra layer of sportiness to the car.

The Lexus LC 500 Coupe comes with the longest wheelbase in the competition that allows it to become one of the most spacious and practical cars in the segment. The shortest car in the segment remains the 2021 Jaguar F-Type R coupe followed by the 2021 Nissan GT-R. Standout exterior features in the 2022 Lexus LC 500 are:

  • 20/21-inch alloy wheels
  • Automatic LED headlights

  • Light tinted glass

2022 Lexus LC 500 Safety

So far, it has been proven to be a safe car that can keep you and your family safe inside the cabin. The use of high-strength materials like carbon fiber helps it achieve high safety standards along with lighter body weight at the same time. The safety features include in the 2022 Lexus LC 500 are:

2022 Lexus LC 500 Competition

2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe vs. 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe

The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe offers a very attractive package for the price. It has always been faster than the LC 500 Coupe in terms of outright acceleration. The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe also has more nimble driving dynamics and offers excellent handling compared to the Lexus LC 500 Coupe. Since the LC 500 Coupe is coming with a new and more powerful engine, we can expect it to perform better this time. But it is also going to be more expensive.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe vs. 2021 BMW M850i

The BMW M850i is an excellent car in the sports coupe segment and offers a complete package for the drivers. It comes with better performance and more agile handling compared to the Lexus LC 500 Coupe. The Lexus makes a comeback with a more balanced interior and good space distribution in both rows. With the new engine, the LC 500 Coupe will most likely take over the BMW in terms of performance.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe vs. 2021 Nissan GT-R

Nissan GT-R is a well-established name in the global market for the performance it offers. It is the fastest car in the comparison for now with a 0 to 60 mph timing of under 3 seconds. It is hard to beat the Nissan GT-R in terms of performance and it is still to be seen how the new LC 500 performs against the GT-R. But the Lexus LC 500 surely has an advantage when it comes to practicality.

2022 Lexus LC 500 Final Verdict

The Lexus LC 500 Coupe has always been a great option in the sports coupe segment for its bold design and practical interior. Performance was never an issue with the naturally aspirated V8 motor. The 2022 model year is going to bring the biggest revolution in the Lexus LC 500 with the new twin-turbo V8 engine that looks promising on paper. Although we need to wait to see how it performs in the real world, the 2022 Lexus LC 500 Coupe will be a massive upgrade over the current generation.
