Getting a facelift in 2019, the Japanese automaker has decided to continue the coupe for the upcoming year. Though there might not be major redesigns, one can expect slight and negligible revisions on the bodywork, and in the cabin as well. The 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport is the only Japanese make that puts up with the German coupes like the BMW 4-series, Audi A5, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Features

Lexus already provides some of the best features in the market for its most decorated coupe. Being carried over to the upcoming year, the 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe has got the same list of features but all of them are just enough for it to give a comfortable and fun ride around the town or on the highway. The pricing for the F Sport trim is expected to be just a tad more than the current figures.

Which Trim should you buy?

Since the F Sport comes in only one variant, you don't have much of a choice. However, you do get to choose between RWD or AWD configurations. We would recommend you for the latter as it adds more grip and stability to the chassis while the acceleration is also brisker.

Release Date

There have been no official dates announced by Lexus. Based on reports we can expect the Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe to be available in the market by the Fall of 2021.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Engine and Performance

8.0/10

Being a carry-over model, the RC 300 F Sport’s powertrain in 2022 would also remain unchanged. A standard 2.0L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine is what propels the coupe generating a decent 241 HP of power and a torque of 258 lb-ft that kicks in a little early at 1650 RPM. This is paired with a smooth-operating 8-speed automatic transmission and the power is sent to the rear wheels. The all-wheel-drive model gets a 3.5L V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard producing over 260 HP and 238 lb-ft of torque. Both variants come equipped with paddle-shifters for buttery smooth shifts.

The RC 300 RWD boasts to accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 7 and a half seconds while the AWD is a second faster. The quarter-mile is completed in 13.3 seconds with the V6 whereas the base 2.0L engine takes about 14 seconds. On the other hand, the 4-cylinder engine has a top speed of 143 MPH while the V6 is limited to 130 MPH.

Sitting very close to each other in terms of power and performance, the Audi A5 is the best coupe which is also supposed to be the most affordable and is the quickest to 60mph taking 5.3 seconds. The BMW and Mercedes do not use a hybrid powertrain and so, their performance is slightly lowered with the 430i being a better performer than the C 300, but it manages to record a higher top speed of 130 MPH. On the other hand, the RC 300’s base engine is way off the competition when the acceleration is considered whereas the V6 performs a little better.

Since the whole car is being carried over to the upcoming year, these systems would feel just like the 2021 model year. The steering wheel feels weirdly satisfying on this Lexus coupe as it is not the best system in the segment but works pretty well with a little more effort to be put in.

Talking about the ride quality, the 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe has some specially tuned independent suspension systems on all of its wheels. The front suspension is a double-wishbone type with coil springs and electronically adjusting shock absorbers and stabilizer bars. The rear wheels have got a pair of independent multi-link suspensions with the same shock absorbers. This layout gives the Japanese coupe a smooth, quiet, and luxurious ride absorbing all the surface irregularities and adjusting according to the drive modes. However, the braking capabilities might not be the best in the segment.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Fuel Economy

9.0/10

With no improvements or even changes to the powertrain for the 2022 model, fuel economy will also remain the same. The upcoming RC 300 lineup will have the same 17.4-gallon fuel tank which will feed the engines. The 2.0L inline 4 gives MPG figures of 21 and 31 miles to a gallon in the city and on the highway respectively. These numbers drastically decrease to 19 and 26 when the V6 powers the coupe. With the base engine, the RC 300 F-Sport covers 365.4 city and 539.4 highway miles, which might not be the best in the segment, but are easily comparable.

With the biggest fuel tanks of 17.4-gallons, the Lexus and Mercedes-Benz have an advantage over the other two rivals. However, the C 300 has a slightly more efficient engine and that gives it the best range in the segment of about 470 miles, whereas the RC 300 falls short of just two miles in every condition. Moving over to the Audi and BMW, the A5 pulls out some truly good numbers being an AWD, while the 430i Coupe has the most fuel-efficient engine averaging a combined mileage of 29 MPG. Except for the highway driving conditions, the Audi gives more or less the same range as the Lexus while the BMW has a better one though both of them have almost the same fuel tank capacity.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Interior

8.0/10

Showing off the luxury benchmark of Toyota, the new RC 300 F Sport has an opulent interior, and the cabin is also well maintained and adorned with good quality materials. The upcoming model will have the same cabin as the current model, all covered in the perforated NuLuxe interior trim available in three different colors out of which two are paired to wood trims and a black headliner is standard.

A stepped dashboard design made using soft-touch plastic with smooth and curvy details welcomes the occupants. Meanwhile, aluminum inserts on the door trims and center console along with the veneers add up to the look. There are plenty of buttons that are well placed and feel good upon touch, AC vents are also placed aesthetically while the seats are irresistibly comfortable and with a nice and round leather-wrapped steering wheel, the feel is pretty good.

Talking about seating configuration and comfort, Lexus claims to have seating for four but that is not completely true. The 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe has heated and ventilated leather-wrapped front bucket seats with some extra F Sport bolstering. Moreover, a 10-way power adjusting driver’s seat with memory function and the front passenger gets an 8-way power adjusting seat provides good comfort for two occupants in the front. The rear seat has a 60/40 split-folding bench seat with a fairly cramped room and is not suitable for adults and can be best used as a storage space.

There are a few spaces dedicated for internal storage like cup-holders, a shallow storage bin, side door bins, and a glove box in addition to a fairly small cargo space of 10.4 cubic feet in its trunk.

Offering the best front headroom and legroom, the Lexus is very roomy for the front passengers while the rear has the least room of all. On the other hand, the BMW 4-Series balances its front and rear rows pretty well and there is enough space all around the cabin while it also has the best cargo capacity of 12 cubic feet. The A5 and C 300 are similar in terms of interior dimensions, however, the Mercedes offers a little more cargo space than the Audi of 10.5 cubic feet and is very similar to the Lexus.

Some of the key interior features of the 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport include:

  • 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function
  • 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever
  • Aluminum sport pedals
  • Optional power moonroof
  • F Sport heated steering wheel

How intuitive is the 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport’s infotainment unit

With a new model of the coupe, Lexus has decided not to update the infotainment system in the RC 300. The Lexus Multimedia System with a 7-inch color display is standard for the F Sport trim, this can be operated by a remote touchpad which is placed very handily for the driver but a simple touchscreen will definitely improve the experience. The interface is a little complicated but with an acceptable resolution and good graphics, the system feels pretty sorted to use. All modern media can be connected using various ways.

In addition to this, a full-color multi-information display sits right in front of the driver giving out multiple details about the car. This screen has a bright and vivid display and can be adjusted using the steering wheel controls. Nice and immersive audio is delivered by a standard 10-speaker premium sound system. Moreover, this can be upgraded to a 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system with Clari-Fi audio processing, 10.3-inch color display, dynamic navigation, and machine-finished control knobs on the dashboard by opting for the specific package.

A few features that are expected to be standard on the 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport are mentioned.

  • Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio with 3-month All Access subscription
  • WiFi connectivity with a 3-month trial
  • Bluetooth and USB smartphone connectivity
  • Voice command and active sound control
  • Lexus Enform dynamic navigation and destination assist (available)

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Exterior

7.0/10

The sports coupe from Japan might not have a high-performance powertrain but it surely has a very sharp and striking exterior. Just like most of the car, the exteriors are also being carried over and there are numerous character lines and cuts all around the coupe, bringing out its highly aggressive and refined design. Due to this, the RC 300 measures an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.30 which makes it cut through the air like a bird.

Starting with the front, a huge and special F Sport mesh painted in black with smoked chrome trim completes the front grille. Also, a genuinely cool headlamp housing with Bi-LED lights with DRLs are standard and so is a pair of rain-sensing windshield wipers. All other things are simple like a front diffuser lip, fully functional side air vents and a hood with some simple but necessary character lines add to the sporty and mean looks.

The side view reveals an intense roof line defining its sleek coupe styling perfectly. Moreover, a curved lip can also be easily spotted below the doors along with the standard split five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels with dark graphite finish looks very impressive. Moving to the rear, the signature LED taillamps to grab all the attention along with a rear design attribute that mimics the front air vents, to give it a consistent styling. Dual chrome exhausts and a simple blacked-out diffuser sit in the lower areas of the coupe.

Alongside, Lexus offers a few optional features like a power moonroof, premium triple-beam LED headlamps, and 19-inch split nine-spoke alloy wheels.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe has the least ground clearance and width of 3.5 and 71.3 inches, respectively, two very coupe-like features. It is also the shortest and tallest of all whereas the BMW is the longest and widest coupe and has the longest wheelbase of 112.2 inches. The Lexus is fairly long but has the shortest wheelbase of 107.5 inches and is compact as the width and height are just alright. The A5 has the least height and is just a little longer than the C 300.

Some of the key exterior features are:

  • Bi-LED lights with DRLs
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Split five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels with dark graphite finish
  • Dual chrome exhausts
  • Blacked-out diffuser

  • 19-inch split nine-spoke alloy wheels (optional)

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Safety

6.0/10

Sharing its platform with the very famous sedan, the RC 300 is constructed using a welded-steel unibody structure that gives it the strength and rigidity to withstand the worst of situations. Other than this, the Lexus Safety System Plus, Lexus Enform Safety Connect, and Service Connect are standard on the F Sport trim. A few passive safety features include an 8-airbag system, ABS, EBD, VSC, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring, and a backup camera with dynamic gridlines are standard.

A little more safety is added with systems like blindspot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and an optional intuitive parking assist are available.

Some of the key safety features are:

  • Tire pressure monitoring
  • Backup camera with dynamic gridlines
  • Blindspot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Parking assist (optional)

While the model is yet to be announced and has no changes, the safety ratings might be the same as well. The NHTSA has not yet rated the Japanese coupe for 2021 or any subsequent models in the past. Having said that, the IIHS comes up with some satisfying results where the 2021 Lexus RC 300 scores “good” in all the crashworthiness sections and receives a “superior” rating for the crash mitigation system.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Competition

9.0/10

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe vs. 2021 BMW 430i Coupe

Belonging to the subcompact cars section, the BMW 4-series looks a little strange with the unconventional front fascia. However, because of this, the front appears more compact while the rear is fairly large. Talking about performance, the 430i coupe has the best torque and does an amazing job losing to the Audi by just a few seconds. On the other hand, the Lexus might not be a performer but with all those curves and blends, it has got better looks than the 4-series coupe.

Putting all their major resources upon exteriors and performance, the BMW has got a rather simple and skinned interior whereas Lexus seemed to have focused around this problem. The RC 300 is equipped with many standard comfort features that would only be available as an option on the BMW. There are plenty of standard safety features on the Japanese coupe while the layout is targeted to be more luxurious than sporty.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe vs. 2021 Audi A5 S line 45 TFSI Coupe

It is a well-known fact that Audi’s styling is exclusive to its brand. Simple yet pleasing, the A5 coupe could have been a little spicier in terms of looks and this is the exact reason why BMW decided to play with its mustache, it would be very relieving to see Audi do something like that. Having said that, the Audi A5 has immense power with a full-time AWD which makes it the fastest in the segment. Compared to the A5, The RC 300 is slow but efficient as it offers better range.

Talking about interiors, the A5 has got enough luxe to put it up with the Lexus. A multi-material cabin with a neat and opulent layout exists, just like in the RC 300. However, the Lexus also offers comfort, be it in the form of room or comfort. With extra-cushioned and feature-filled seats, the RC 300 has got the best front room as well. Though the rear might not have the same features or room, the story is almost the same for the Audi as well.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe vs. 2022 Mercedes-Benz C 300 Coupe

Bearing an almost equal price tag, the coupes of Mercedes-Benz and Lexus have a neck and neck competition. The performance is nearly the same as one lead in terms of acceleration but the other bests in a quarter-mile run whereas the C-class has also undergone a makeover which makes it a little more attractive. However, it does not yet match the appeal that Lexus creates.

Unlike the Lexus or Audi, Mercedes plans to decorate its interiors with black plastic surrounded and meddled by numerous metal pieces around the cabin, this does work on giving the coupe a premium appearance but it does not match the mark made by the Lexus RC 300. Also, the Japanese coupe offers way more comfort features whereas the seats are equally comfortable in both cars. Moreover, Lexus offers more safety features as standard.

2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport Coupe Final Verdict

Though the model might be completely the same, it is probably the best time to buy this coupe as it still offers engine options and is in its best shape. Though the available powertrains might not be as sporty or performing as the competition, its nice and curvy bodyworks and exterior styling neutralize the situation. The interiors are way more luxurious and comfortable than its rivals and plenty of conveniences, safety, and infotainment features are offered as standard.

The 2022 Lexus RC 300 F Sport coupe will be a good fit for someone who prefers luxury or for someone who does not want to go all sporty and athletic with their car.
