Detailed Review

Lexus RC F Coupe is designed to give a fierce competition to powerful racing coupes. From packing a powerful V8 engine to flaunting sports-styled 19-inch wheels, there is lot of sporty about the coupe. The 2017 Lexus RC F Coupe continues the legacy of racing-like coupes from the manufacturer. However, the biggest issue with the series, the bulkiness, still remains an issue with the latest iteration.

Lexus RC F Coupe flaunts a hearty 5.0L DOHC V8 engine. It is complemented by an 8-speed automatic transmission mode. The powerful V8 engine is capable of generating 467 hp of power and 389 lb.-ft. of torque. Hence, it allows the Coupe to perform well not only on streets but even on racing tracks.

2017 Lexus RC F Engine

6.0/10

The Lexus RC F doesn't have a high-performance sheen built up over decades. Rivals like the BMW M4 have considerable laurels to rest on, in that regard. But the RC F comes the closest yet of any Lexus to nailing the elusive German recipe for track and street two-door performance. - carconnection

Engine and Transmission

The latest avatar of the Lexus RC F Coupe packs a hearty 5.0L DOHC V8 engine. It grants 467 hp of power and 389 lb.-ft. of torque to the ride. The engine is coupled with a responsive 8-speed automatic transmission mode. In terms of engine power, RC F Coupe gives close competition to Cadillac ATS-V Coupe and AMG C 63 Coupe. Mercedes Benz AMG C 63 Coupe flaunts the most torque of 479 lb.-ft. among its class rivals.

The AMG C 63 is the quickest in the league to cover a quarter-mile. While all its adversaries require over 12 seconds to cover 1/4th of a mile, Mercedes Coupe does so in just 10.4 seconds.

Ride and Handling

The combination of variable driving modes and gearbox maps is simply excellent. It allows for a comfy, sporty and rewarding driving experience with the RC F Coupe. As long as you don’t push the engine to its limit, the experience is rewarding. However, once the ride reaches its boundaries, the bulkiness of the coupe begins to show up. Nonetheless, it’s an issue only if you go hardcore.

There are lots to appreciate about the driving experience with Lexus. The engine sounds great, just like a robust V8 should. There is an instant throttle response in addition to confident handling and responsive steering. All in all, the driving experience is much like a GT than a sports coupe.

Braking

Front and rear brakes for the RC F Coupe measures 15 and 13.6 inches, respectively. AMG C 63 Coupe has the biggest front brake of 15.4 inches in the competition. 2017 Lexus RC F Interior

8.0/10

Design and materials are excellent, perhaps class-leading. Usability is poor, however, as is visibility. Space for passengers and stuff is merely OK. - Edmunds

Infotainment System

Inside, the RC F features a 7-inch infotainment display screen. Almost everything in the car can be adjusted using the haptic infotainment control pad. However, the redundant buttons with knobs for volume and tuning aren’t the best ones available with other class rivals.

Moreover, the LCD tach changes appearance depending on the drive mode that is activated. It is accompanied by a left screen, which displays tire pressures, radio stations, g-forces, etc. In short, there aren’t much great about the infotainment system of the coupe.

Interior Features

It has a plush, fully-functional interior. There is no scarcity of features on the inside of the coupe. The ride prioritizes comfort as well as luxury. Important interior features belonging to the Lexus RC F Coupe are:

  • Excellent front seats
  • Fully-functional, lavish cabin
  • Stitching in the front buckets mimic human muscles, looks great
  • Wider seats with support for a wide variety of body shapes and sizes

Cargo Capacity

2017 Lexus RC F Exterior

6.4/10

The RC F has its roots in Lexus coupes like the old SC lineup, and the more recent IS convertibles, but the two-door hardtop is one of the brand's more handsome designs. It's traditional in its outline, dramatic in its details, and rendered more sinister than the base RC coupes thanks to a mesh hourglass grille composed of a thousand tiny letter Fs.  -thecarconnection

2017 Lexus RC F Competition

Lexus RC F Coupe vs Cadillac ATS-V Coupe

With an opening bid of $63,890, 2017 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe is a strong competitor to the Lexus RC F Coupe. The Cadillac features a 3.6L V6 Twin Turbo SIDI, DOHC, VVT engine along with a 6-speed manual transmission. The 3.6L Twin Turbo engine generates 464 hp of power and 445 lb.-ft. of torque. The ATS-V Coupe boasts an impressive and packs leading 0-60 MPH time of 3.8 seconds. Moreover, it takes 12.2 seconds to cover a quarter mile.

Lexus RC F Coupe vs Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 Coupe

Another major competitor to the Lexus RC F Coupe is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 Coupe. The ride packs a 4.0L Biturbo V8 engine, capable of generating 469 hp of power and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. Both feats are the maximum available among its class rivals. The bid for the Mercedes starts from $67k. For gear-shifting, AMG C 63 Coupe relies on a 7-speed automatic transmission mode. It takes 3.9 seconds for shooting to 60 MPH.

Lexus RC F Coupe vs BMW M4 Coupe

The 2017 BMW M4 Coupe is among the prime competitors to the Lexus RC F Coupe. Pricing options for the ride start from $66,200. M4 Coupe boasts a 3.0L 6-Cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine complemented by a 6-speed manual transmission mode. The 3.0L TwinPower engine produces 406 lb.-ft. of torque in addition to 425 hp of power. The total power available to the coupe is the least among its class rivals.

2017 Lexus RC F Final Verdict

2017 Lexus RC F Coupe allows for an enjoyable ride in classy interiors. While the front seats are fully comfortable and spacious, the rear seats might impose issues on taller people. Nonetheless, the cabin is designed in such a way to enhance the riding appeal. The powerful V8 engine delivers robust 467 hp but falls behind the competition with a modest 389 lb.-ft. of torque.

Combined fuel economy of 19 mpg offered by the Lexus RC F Coupe isn’t impressive at all. However, it is what you will get from its class rivals too. The exteriors are impressive and there are several optional features to go for. Even though the coupe packs the persona of a moderately aggressive racing car, it is much like to a GT at its best.
