Detailed Review

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is Lincoln 's foray into the world of environment-friendly and green vehicles. The electric powered MKZ aims to increase the mileage and longevity of the vehicle. The redesigned front fascia give the car a distinctive new look and in all honesty, the new grille does not look like out of proportion eyelashes which is a plus point.

2017 Lincoln MKZ hybrid Sedan Engine

7.8/10

“As long as grass remains green—or at least until electrified vehicles become the norm—drivers will face the wearisome task of deciding whether a hybrid is worth the money. It's a conundrum that typically involves weighing the higher MSRP of a hybrid with its fuel economy benefits. In the case of the Lincoln MKZ, the starting price is the same whether you opt for the four-cylinder gas-only model or the hybrid, but the latter provides an EPA-estimated 40 mpg instead of just 24 mpg.” - MotorTrend

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Driving and Performance

The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is powered by a 2.0 L I4 engine with CVT automatic transmission. The engine is capable of delivering 188 HP @ 6000 rpm and 129 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. These powertrain numbers are by far the least impressive among all the cars in its competition. The Lincoln MKZ by far has the weakest powertrain.

Acceleration

Given that the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid has the smallest engine in this segment, the acceleration is also unimpressive with the car going 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds. The Lincoln in the aspect only outperforms the Lexus ES 300H which has awful numbers in terms of acceleration. As for the Toyota Avalon and Infinity Q50, the Lincoln falls way short of the two.

2017 Lincoln MKZ hybrid Sedan Interior

7.0/10

“The front seats offer good comfort, especially the optional multi-contour versions with their infinite adjustment possibilities. The sloping rear roofline means limited headroom for tall rear-seat passengers, but the legroom in back is quite generous.” - Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid looks every bit the luxury sedan with its themed interiors and a stack of other interior features that it is loaded with. The car comes in three themes namely,

  • Chalet, in which interiors are primarily based on off white and grey
  • Vineyard, in which the interiors are maroon and black
  • Thoroughbred, in which the interiors are black and brown

The comfort level inside the MKZ is elevated by the cozy leather seats that come with 8-way power adjustments for height, lumber etc. The seats are also heated to multi-levels. The rear seats come with folding armrest and split folding rear seatbacks and rear ventilation ducts.

The Lincoln MKZ is quite spacious overall but if you consider the external dimensions of the car then you’d think for it to be a little more spacious from the inside.

We Recommend

The MKZ Hybrid Reserve offers the best bang for the buck with all the added pizzaz for a negligible price bump.

2017 Lincoln MKZ hybrid Sedan Competition

Lexus ES 300h

While the Lexus is powered by a bigger engine, its performance in terms of speed and acceleration is not as good as the Lincoln MKZ. The car’s interiors and safety features also do not compare to the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. And with pretty much identical fuel efficiency and a higher price tag, you can’t find reasons to choose the Lexus over the Lincoln apart from a brand love for the Lexus.

Toyota Avalon Hybrid XLE Plus

This is probably the best car in this segment and the toughest to beat for the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. The car is powered by a bigger engine, has better performance and is stacked with interior features. And while we believe that the choice of interiors ultimately comes down to taste, the Avalon gives the Lincoln a run for its money even in that department. Priced only a couple grand above the Lincoln and with identical fuel efficiency, The Toyota Avalon hands down beat the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

Infinity Q50 Hybrid LUXE

The Infinity Q50 is a car with a much bigger engine, better on-road performance as a result and a much higher price tag. In this case, it comes down to your priorities while buying a car. If the powertrain and acceleration are more important to you and you are willing to pay the extra money for that then the Infinity Q50 is what you go with but if fuel efficiency and a more economical car is what you’re looking for then you go with the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

2017 Lincoln MKZ hybrid Sedan Final Verdict

Offering a blend of luxury and hybrid goodness the Lincoln MKZ hybrid manages to hit a sweet spot when it comes to luxury and environmental savviness. Add to the mix that the hybrid variant costs as much as the normal one and we are glad we don’t have to pay extra for those extra miles. A step in the right direction by Lincoln the MKZ Hybrid falls short on power and is easily overpowered by competitors.
