Expert Review

The 2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo comes at a base price of $169,980 and comes loaded with all the bells and whistles of the standard Levante but gets the Trofeo treatment in the form of carbon fiber inserts on the interiors and exteriors and some other enhancements as well. It really lets you make the statement that you have the best of what Maserati's Levante lineup has to offer. Even the upgraded twin-turbo V8 engine along with its engine note sounds way better than most supercar powertrains.

Still, it is the price that becomes the enemy of the Levante Trofeo. Its cost pushes the car way up into the territory of luxury SUVs that offer it a serious competition, both in terms of power and creature comforts. You can easily get a V8 in an SUV if you go for a Bentley or a Merc in this segment. The newest addition in the form of the awesome Lamborghini Urus means that the Maserati Levante Trofeo faces some tough rivals out in the market.

2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV Engine and Performance

"Performance levels are sensational with 60 mph arriving in 3.7 seconds, top speed is an impressive but untestable 187 mph." -Carbuzz

Engine and Transmission

Under the hood of the 2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo, lives a Ferrari assembled 3.8L Twin Turbo V8 that spits out a massive 590hp @6250rpm and a ginormous 538lbs.-ft. of torque at 2250rpm. What sets the Maserati apart from its other rivals is the fact that the power delivery of this SUV is unlike any other SUV in the market.

Engage Levante Trofeo’s sport mode and let the valves open creating the shortest, highest-energy route for the exhaust gases. The engine not only gets a boost in performance but also provides a mind-numbing noise that can send shivers down the spine.

Speaking of rivals, the Lamborghini Urus offers the most power and torque figure and is the most expensive of the lot as well. The Maserati comes in second while the Mercedes comes in 3rd. The Bentley Bentayga V8 is the least powerful of the lot but is priced lower than the rest as well.

Acceleration

With a 3.7 sec time to do a 0-60 dash and a 189mph top speed, the Maserati Levante Trofeo does present itself as one of the most powerful and fastest SUVs that money can buy today. Sure, the competition offers better torque or slightly higher power figures but in daily driving, the Levante Trofeo is as fast as a current-day BMW M5 and that is a lot to say.

Speaking solely about rivals, the Maserati gets trumped by the smallest of margins in the 0-60 dash by the Super Expensive but ultra-powerful Raging Bull from Sant’Agata, Bolognese- The Lamborghini Urus. The Mercedes and the Bentley are tied at a dead heat in the 0-60 dash as well and are placed at a joint 3rd.

Braking and Handling

The 2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo offers breathtaking performance without compromising on its braking abilities. The low curb weight and the superb brakes of the Levante Trofeo allow this modern Modena-based company’s SUV to come to a halt from 60 mph in just 105ft.

With a standard Intelligent AWD, perfect 50-50 weight distribution, extra low profile rubber, and rear limited-slip differential, the Levante Trofeo handles like a proper sports saloon. Most people won't be disappointed by the way this Maserati manages to carve out of corners and maintain its composure and stability out of there. Body roll is well contained on both the corners and while changing lanes on the motorway as well.

2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV Fuel Economy

With most modern performance Cars focusing more on performance and trading off MPG, Maserati has ensured that the Levante Trofeo offers the best of both worlds. The Levante Trofeo offers an astounding combined MPG figure of 15 while the best MPG figure is obtained on the highway and is around 18 MPG.

In terms of overall figures, it’s the V8 Bentley that takes the top honors but loses out on the overall range to the Big German Aristocrat- The G63 AMG. The Urus is the worst performing SUV here in both range and overall MPG figures.

2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV Interior

"A fairly roomy and cargo-friendly luxury SUV, the Trofeo add a number of standard interior treats to spoil you." -Kelley Blue Book

Seating and Comfort

Maserati says that the Interiors of the Levante Trofeo suit the expectations of the quintessential luxury SUV buyer. But we fear we have to agree to disagree with this claim of Maserati. The layout feels a bit bland when compared to the likes of the Bentley or the Mercedes and doesn’t exude luxury in your face. The Fiat-Chrysler influence can be seen on the use of the plastics and the buttons which definitely feel like they have been built to a cost. We do however like the carbon fiber paddle shifters behind the steering wheel and the noise they produce when shifting through them.

Maserati designers have ensured that Levante Trofeo remains unmistakably a Maserati. The visual differences between the Standard Levante and the Trofeo include revisions to the front fascia and bumpers, dual vertical carbon fiber bars on the front grille and carbon-fiber pieces on the nose and tail section. 2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV Competition

Maserati Levante Trofeo vs. Lamborghini Urus

The Lamborghini urus is the pinnacle of performance SUV’s in the World and Lamborghini has shown that they can not only dish out Outstanding sports cars but outstanding SUV’s as well. The Urus, however, isn’t accessible as its way to pricey for the kind of equipment its offering. The Trofeo offers similar levels of performance, at a much lower asking price. Leave aside the unfathomable interiors and the Trofeo won’t fail to mesmerize you, every time you take it out for a ride.

Maserati Levante Trofeo vs Bentley Bentayga

The Bentley Bentayga has been the epitome of British engineering in an SUV. The Bentayga screams Luxury the moment you step inside the Cabin. Couple to that VW’s superb design and build quality and what you have on your hands is a remarkable SUV that will leave you smiling always. The Levante Trofeo, on the other hand, screams performance from the moment you drive it. If performance is what you are looking after, the Levante Trofeo will suit your bill best but for everything else, it's the Bentayga that should be worth your cash.

Maserati Levante Trofeo vs Mercedes-Benz AMG G 63

The Mercedes AMG G63 has been around for a while and has been one of the most respected SUVs in the world. You get a strong road presence, heart-thumping performance and tons of space in the G63. Couple that with a relatively low price tag and what you have is a German mauler that can rip its rivals apart. The Levante Trofeo, on the other hand, offers Ferrari like performance in the shape of an SUV. But considering the inferior build quality and the much higher asking price, we do think that G63 makes a better buy unless you don’t want a Boxy SUV like the G63.

2019 Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV Final Verdict

The Maserati Levante Trofeo is a superb 1st Attempt by Maserati in creating a performance SUV that can take on the likes of the Lamborghini Urus and the Bentley Bentayga. The Trofeo offers performance that no rival of it can match at its price. The Exquisite Italian exterior adds to the magnificence of this Modena based Italian classic. If you are fond of performance and want it in a practical avatar while ignoring it’s average interiors, then there is no denying the fact that the Maserati Levante Trofeo is one of the Best SUV’s that deserves your $100 bills.
