Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

As a sedan, the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo is a complete package when it comes to performance, luxury, and attention to detail. In short, it brings only the best of Maserati with it. The Quattroporte Trofeo is only available as a single trim level with prices starting from $142,890 without options. 2022 Quattroporte Trofeo competes with the likes of the BMW Alpina B7 xDrive sedan, the Audi S8, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S.

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo comes in a single trim level option but has some optional features such as stitching, upholstery, and exterior paint job options that add to the price. The Quattroporte Trofeo starts at $142,890 and the Trofeo badge signifies that it is the top-of-the-line version. It is one of the most attractive sports sedans on sale today and has some serious performance and handling capabilities on offer along with the best of interior upholstery, features, and infotainment features from Maserati.

Powering the 2022 Quattroporte Trofeo is an engine sourced directly from Ferrari which in itself is one of the biggest gimmicks. Other features include a Harman/Kardon surround sound system, Carbon fiber trim, advanced safety features, and a lot more.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo Release Date

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo has already been released and is available to order from the 1st of July, 2021.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood of the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo is a Ferrari sourced 3.8 L twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 580 horsepower and 538 lb-ft torque. The powertrain unit is a really exciting one that has enough grunt for you to enjoy on the streets and has arguably one of the best exhaust notes for a luxury sports sedan. The Quattroporte Trofeo is a blast to drive right from the word ‘Go’, thanks to the refined and smooth twin-turbo V8 that it comes with. The engine comes mated to an 8 speed ZF automatic transmission with paddle shifters that goes through the gears like a hot knife through butter.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo Sedan In Acceleration Mode

Having a pair of paddle shifters helps you to take matters into your own hands right when you want to while the throaty exhaust note makes you aware that you are driving no ordinary car. Another fun aspect of the Quattroporte Trofeo is the fact that it comes with an RWD drivetrain only. Hence you always have the ability to go drift and of course, with the traction control switched off. The vehicle can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds and can cover a quarter-mile distance from a standstill in just 14.7 seconds.

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo is arguably one of the sportiest and best-handling sports sedans in the market. It comes with an RWD drivetrain configuration along with the clever adaptive suspension unit that features a double-wishbone front suspension setup and a multi-link suspension setup in the rear. The Quattroporte feels stable and sharp through the corners. But you can drift in this one once the traction control is turned off. Take it to a track, and you’ll clearly be having more fun inside this car than any of its rivals.

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo surely is an expensive option, but the driving experience along with the beautiful exhaust note left by the 3.8 L twin-turbocharged V8 cannot be matched by any other car in its segment. The Alpina B7 surely proves to be one of the quickest and most powerful cars in the segment with a 0-60 mph figure of 3.5 seconds all thanks to the highest torque of 627 lb-ft in the competition. However, Panamera Turbo S is the most powerful car here churning out 620 horses and when equipped with the Sports Chrono package, it can cover 0-60MPH in just 2.9 seconds.

Fuel Economy

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo doesn’t have the best fuel efficiency. The vehicle manages to offer a combined fuel economy of 16 MPG and offers 13 and 20 MPG in the city and highway conditions. Sure having that Ferrari sourced V8 and exemplary performance, it sure turned out to be a gas guzzler. With a 21.1 gal. tank, it offers a combined driving range of 337.6 miles which is the lowest in the segment.

Range (City/Highway/Combined, in Miles)

The Audi S8 even with the mild-hybrid tech returns only 16 mpg combined; having all those gizmos inside the cabin to keep you comfortable added to its weight and thus took a toll on fuel economy. Alpina B7 despite being one of the most powerful sedans in its class offers the highest combined fuel economy at 19 mpg. Panamera Turbo S manages to edge out the likes of Maserati and Audi in terms of fuel economy but it has the largest fuel tank in its class; proves to be a Grand Tourer in some sense.

The 2022 Quattroporte Trofeo has arguably one of the best interior designs and materials that Maserati has on offer since it’s their flagship sedan. The design layout remains unchanged over its outgoing model. The entire interior is clad in Pieno Fiore full natural leather upholstery along with carbon fiber trim inserts, and intricate stitching that can be customized to your needs. The only drawback in the interior seems to be some buttons and switches here and there. These plasticky buttons are similar to the ones found in some Chrysler cars. This is because Maserati is owned by Chrysler’s parent company Stellantis.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo Sedan Dashboard

The front bucket seats are heated and ventilated with 12-way power adjustability options. With the best leather upholstery and exclusive stitching options, they feel really luxurious. The center console has carbon-fiber trim inserts and a very comfy armrest with concealed storage. The driver gets a very comfortable driving position and the visibility from the cabin is also very good. All the controls are also placed at the right place and you can comfortably control the cabin from the driver’s seat.

The heated leather steering wheel has controls for the cruise control and audio system as well. Some of the other creature comforts include dual-zone automatic climate control and power sun blinds. The rear seats are 60-40 split-bench seats with a concealed armrest in between. The Quattroporte Trofeo has the best cargo capacity in its class with a volume of 18.7 cu-ft.

Cargo Capacity (cu ft)

Although there isn't any data available stating the Quattroporte Trofeo’s interior volume, it is pretty large enough for 5 occupants to travel in or on long journeys. The Alpina B7 has one of the largest cabins in the segment and has an impressive cargo capacity as well. Since these are executive class sedans, the rear rows are more spacious than the front rows. S8 has the least cargo capacity of the lot at 12.5 cu ft. Standout interior features in the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo are:

  • Dual-Zone Automatic climate control
  • Metal and wood trim inserts
  • Heated leather sports steering wheel
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • 12-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Pieno Fiore leather upholstery with contrast stitching options
  • Alcantara headliner

What’s there to keep you entertained?

Although the 2022 Quattroporte Trofeo comes with the best infotainment system that Maserati has on offer, it really isn’t as good as what most of its rivals have on offer. The latest and updated Maserati Intelligent Assistant infotainment system gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit. You also get navigation services and SiriusXM satellite radio along with it.

The audio system on offer is a 900-watt Harman/Kardon surround sound system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer. Some of the connectivity features onboard include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa assistant, Maserati connect WiFi hotspot access, and so on. A wireless charging pad is also available as a convenience feature. Standout infotainment features in the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo are:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit
  • In-built navigation
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Bluetooth phone connectivity
  • 10 speakers Harman/Kardon surround sound system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Maserati connect WiFi hotspot access
  • Amazon Alexa voice assistance

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo has to be one of the best-looking sports sedans on the road. The Italian styling, sharp lights, and bold side profile are some of the most recognizable elements on the road and give the Quattroporte Trofeo a muscular and regal look. The Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo recently received an update in the exterior design with the 2021 model year. The car looks more like a piece of art and the overall design seems perfect like a miniature designed perfectly.

The wide grille with the Maserati trident in between along with the sharp LED daytime running lights are a sight to behold. In short, the overall exterior styling definitely complements its power and performance. As it comes with a ‘Trofeo’ badge, the 2022 Quattroporte also gets some side vents with red borders to let everyone easily recognize it as a Trofeo car.

Wheelbase (inches)

At 124.8 inches, the 2022 Quattroporte Trofeo has one of the longest wheelbases in its segment. And it also is on a wider side which makes it extremely stable on the highway as well as on the corners. The Alpina B7 has the longest wheelbase in the segment and also has a spacious interior due to it. Porsche Panamera Turbo S is the shortest car in the lot but it is the widest of all the cars in the competition. Standard exterior features in the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo are:

  • 21-inch Orione forged black wheels
  • Exclusive Trofeo exterior elements
  • Carbon fiber exterior elements
  • Directionally adaptive LED projector headlamps
  • Cornering lights
  • Dual stainless exhaust pipe with dark chrome tailpipe finishers

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo hasn’t been rated for safety by agencies like NHTSA or IIHS as it is too expensive to crash test one. But surely it is manufactured and engineered with safety as one of the highest priorities. The Quattroporte Trofeo has a reinforced chassis with the best structural integrity. It also comes with a host of safety aids like Active Blind Spot Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Aerial View Camera System that add to its safety quotient. Standout safety features in the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo are:

  • Tire Specific Low Tire Pressure Warning
  • Active Blind Spot Warning System
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Aerial View Camera System
  • Forward Collision Warning System
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo vs 2022 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive

The BMW Alpina B7 is one of the toughest competitors to the Quattroporte Trofeo as it is a 7-Series sedan taken a notch higher by Alpina with respect to handling and performance. The B7 is one of the most powerful sedans in its segment.

2022 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive

It also comes with the most spacious interior, impressive ride quality, and price tag. It is a tough decision to choose between the Alpina B7 and the Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo vs 2021 Audi S8

The Audi S8 is truly one of the most technologically advanced sedans in the segment with a hybrid powertrain unit and best-in-class infotainment system and features onboard.

2021 Audi S8

But when it comes to the driving experience and handling, the Quattroporte Trofeo is a clear winner and you will find yourself wanting to drive the Maserati more.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo vs 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S is a great handling sedan with a powerful engine under its hood. At 2.9 second 0-60MPH run, it competes in the supercar territory as well.

2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

It is too powerful when compared to the Quattroporte Trofeo but has less room inside; it is also expensive. However, with Italian design elements and an impressive exhaust note and driving experience, it’s hard not to vouch for the Maserati.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo has one of the most exciting and fun powertrain units onboard with the best driving dynamics on offer. Apart from the slightly costlier price tag and a few bits and pieces from Chrysler, the Quattroporte Trofeo doesn’t seem to have any major drawbacks with it. It proves to be one of the most exciting and dynamic sedans that you can buy if you have the budget for one.
