The Mazda CX-30 is a pocket-friendly subcompact luxury crossover SUV that comes with a nicely appointed cabin and a decent powertrain. Moreover, a long list of standard safety features, an attractive infotainment system, standard AWD, and a sharp driving experience make it the most desirable offering in this segment.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Dashboard

Don’t be fooled by the price tag of the 2022 Mazda CX-30. As opposed to its price, the cabin feels quite premium. Just like the exterior design, the interior also has a lot in common with the Mazda 3 sedan. 2022 CX-30 goes against similarly priced rivals like the Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek, and Buick Encore.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

If you have ever been inside of a Mazda 3, you will be very familiar with the cabin of the 2022 Mazda CX-30. A neat infotainment display rises from the center of the dashboard which is controlled by the traditional rotary controller that is present in almost every Mazda vehicle. 2022 CX-30 comes in four trim options. The base 2.5 S is a bare-bones offering that comes with manually adjustable seats, a manual air conditioning system, and fabric upholstery. You will find a few hard plastics inside the base 2.5 S trim but the excellent build quality would take your attention away from the hard-plastic. Premium trim comes with leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a few more added features.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Front Seats

Coming to the seats, the base model comes with Black cloth upholstery as standard. Synthetic leather upholstered seats are available upwards from the Select trim. However, Black is the only color choice available in the Select trim. In the Preferred trim, you get to choose between Black or Greige hues. The top Premium trim comes with genuine leather upholstery available with a choice of either Black or White color options. The front row is quite spacious but the rear row is a better fit for two adults, especially when traveling over a long distance. The shoulder room is also a bit low so you might bump with your passenger now and then. Moreover, overall visibility is good throughout and the driver will not struggle to find a good driving position.

Subaru Crosstrek offers a lot of legroom in the front row, but this cuts off significant legroom from the rear row. Honda HR-V comes with a well-proportioned cabin that keeps passengers comfortable no matter where they are seated. Buick Encore comes with the least spacious cabin that is low on shoulder room and legroom. However, its interior sits more on the premium side.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Infotainment

As standard, an 8.8-inch screen caters to the infotainment duties inside the Mazda CX-30. This system is controlled via a rotary dial present in the center console, and the reason behind this is that Mazda thinks touchscreen displays cause a lot of distraction for the driver. However, it still offers a pretty decent user experience. The standard sound system that pairs with this system is an eight-speaker sound system along with Mazda Harmonic Acoustics.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Infotainment System

The Premium trim comes with an upgraded 12-speaker sound system from Bose which slightly ups the sound quality from the standard system. Standard infotainment features include HD Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, Apple Carplay, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Pandora streaming. The top trim adds navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio services.

Key Infotainment Features

  • 8.8-inch display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • HD Radio
  • 8-speaker sound system
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • 12-Speaker sound system from Bose (Available in Premium trim)
  • SiriusXM satellite radio (Available in Premium trim)
  • In-built Navigation (Available in Premium trim).

2022 Mazda CX-30 Cargo Capacity

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is a compact crossover so it is evident that it will be a little low on cargo space. As standard, it offers 20.2 cubic feet of space in the trunk. This is enough to store in your weekly grocery items.

Larger suitcases can also be stored without much hassle and the rear seats fold down in a 60/40 split-folding configuration which opens up a total of 45.2 cubic feet of space behind the first row of seats.

Honda HR-V proves to be the most practical offering among the rivals. It offers up to 58.8 cubic feet of space with the seats folded down. Buick Encore offers the lowest space as standard with just 18.8 cubic feet. 2022 Mazda CX-30 considerably offers the lowest space inside with the second-row seats folded down.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

Storage space inside the 2022 CX-30 is well looked after. The door pockets are decently sized and each door pocket comes with its own bottle holder. A pair of cupholders is present for the front row passenger and upwards from the select trim, an additional pair of cupholders becomes available for the rear row as well. Moreover, front seats come with seatback pockets. The front compartment also offers a few small bins to store small items like wallets and phones. The standard glove compartment is decently sized as well. Also, an overhead storage console is added from the Preferred trim.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Creature Comforts

The base trim comes with cloth upholstered seats, manually adjustable front seats, manual air conditioning, and push-button start. Moving up to the Select trim adds synthetic leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control. An eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function along with heated front seats, and a moonroof is available from the Preferred trim. Premium trim adds a bit more to mix with features like a heads-up display, an enhanced sound system from Bose, power liftgate, and genuine leather upholstery.

Verdict

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is quite a likable offering in the subcompact crossover SUV segment. Being a nearly premium crossover vehicle for a fraction of the price, the CX-30 never fails to impress. The base trim does feel a little bare bones with a limited list of features on offer. Moving up to the higher trims does give you a lot more features to play with along with higher quality materials used inside the cabin. Overall, the interior of the 2022 Mazda CX-30 is appealing in every aspect except space.
