2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Engine and Performance
7.5/10
"The GLC may not be particularly exciting from the enthusiast driver's perspective, but driving excitement wouldn't seem to be among the top reasons people buy compact luxury-brand SUVs. The GLC is never sedating, either. It's up to whatever any driver is likely to ask of it, and it's a much better transportation appliance than the GLK." -Autoweek
Get behind the wheels of this heavy duty and you’d find a 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine power to all its wheels, the GLC 63 spurts out 469 horsepower and 479 pound feet of torque. The engine is married to a 9-speed automatic transmission and together, the mighty Mercedes GLC 63 churns out great amount of power with smooth and refined gear shifts and driving dynamics. Take it on the race track or cruise in the city, the GLC has sufficient power to travel comfortably.
In its competition, the GLC is outperformed in the race for numbers, however it still manages to up its game by proving to be steady competitor. The most powerful SUV in the class belongs to the BMW X5 purely in terms of its torque and horses.

On asphalt, the Mercedes GLC 63 is a performer despite it losing out in the output race. Aggressively packed, the SUV displays swiftness where all that aggression takes it 3.8s to reach 0-60 MPH. While the field is closely packed with similar timings amongst the rivals, the second fastest to come close to the GLC is the Maserati Levante and the X5M by BMW.

Ride and Handling
Having been crafted by the marque’s performance division, AMG, the comfortable, athletic and assertive Mercedes GLC 63 SUV also provides utmost ride quality. It has quite a responsive steering and an AMG tuned firm suspension that keeps it well-mannered and well-behaved even at high speeds and also take quick turns in any corner with ease. Fitted with limited-rear slip differential, the driving dynamics of the Mercedes really prove to be a fusion of sporty and posh.
It has three different driving modes namely the COMFORT, the SPORT and the SPORT + modes. The COMFORT mode gives quite a stiff and controlled ride. However, with each shift to the higher mode, ride becomes stiffer, the throttle response improves and gets sharper and gear shifts get quicker than before.
Braking
The 2020 Mercedes AMG GLC comes with AMG performance brakes which are solid and give out a decent feedback. Theses brakes are quite sensitive so even a slight touch pedals can swiftly slow the car down. The front brake is sized 15.4 inches and the rear brake is sized 14.2 inches. These brakes looks sufficient enough to stop this heavy SUV at a decent distance in emergency situations.

Going into the new iteration and year, nothing much has changed in the GLC 63’s aesthetic over the past couple of years. Being a part of the first generation, the 2020 Mercedes AMG GLC 63 SUV remains quite identical to its predecessors. It weighs 4500 pound and is 187 inches in length, 76 inches in width and 62.2 inches in height. Off-roading is not this SUV’s forte for it sits just 6.2 inches from the ground.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Competition
2020 Mercedes Benz AMG GLC 63 SUV vs Jaguar F-Pace SVR
The 2020 Jaguar F-Pace SVR is the topmost performance of the Jaguar’s SUV class. It comes with a supercharged V8 engine which has been well tuned to perform like a hellcat that just got unleashed from the hell. Now on the other hand when we look at the in the 2020 Mercedes AMG GLC 63, it gives a cut throat competition to this Jaguar in all aspects. But what turns the tables is that the F-Pace is way more economic than the GLC 63.
2020 Mercedes Benz AMG GLC 63 SUV vs Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR
The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR comes from a family of one of the most power-packed heavy duties that has existed in the market for quite some time. The Land Rover has made this Range rover to be a total package that any SUV can offer. When compared to the GLC 63, it is quite a power-packed performer and has an upper hand in most of the other aspects too. So spending a $10,000 more for a better product seems to be quite a justifiable option.
2020 Mercedes Benz AMG GLC 63 SUV vs Maserati Levante GTS
The 2020 Maserati Levante GTS makes its debut into the market of midsize power-packed Luxury SUVs this year. Well it’s quick, comfortable and quite updated. But still after looking at what what the GLC provides at a lesser price, the price that you pay for this Levante might not feel so justified. Going for the 63 S seems like a better option here than going for the Levante.
2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Final Verdict
Having existed in the market for a while now, Mercedes still has the GLC Class’ in its infancy and requires a few miles to go before it perfects its craft and dynamics. There are still some drawbacks that they have to work on with the 2020 AMG GLC 63 such as design change, improving its performance, etc. as the competition has excellent alternatives to the Silver Arrow.
