Detailed Review

The Mercedes Benz AMG GLE 63 S SUV is the standard GLE on steroids. It now gets a 5.5L Twin Turbo Engine, which doesn't feel as laggy as the others turbo engines are. This beast now pumps about 577 hp of power which is best in its class.

Apart from beastly engine, it gets AMG spec suspension and AMG styling cues. All of this starts at $109,700, which makes it fairly priced amongst all its competitors. The Mercedes competes with the BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Land Rover Range Rover Sport to name a few in its segment.

Ride and Handling

Being the SUV with the ‘AMG' badge does signify that the GLE 63 packs more power than the regular version of it. The engine even after being a bi-turbo engine doesn't has the slightest of the lag. It also rides with compliance despite the sporty suspension setup.

Speaking of sportiness, the AMG suspension given it impressive handling abilities. However, there is some amount of body roll when you corner at high speeds. Else, the adjustable suspension of the car makes the car stable enough and helps you get a better ride quality on bumpy roads.

"Since the BMW X6 went on sale, over 300,000 have found homes. That’s as good a reason as any for Mercedes-Benz to create the GLE Coupe in response, though the Merc’s styling is a lot more subtle in its execution "-Evo.co.uk

2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 63S Competition

Mercedes Benz GLE 63S vs. BMW X5

The BMW X5 starting at around $101,000 is cheaper than the Merc by whopping $8000, The BMW gets a 4.4 L engine which is smaller than the Merc, which produces less power. But, the BMW gets better efficiency, is larger car and has better passenger comfort compared to the Merc.

Mercedes Benz GLE 63s vs. Porsche Cayenne Turbo

The Porsche is costlier than the Merc by around 9k. It gets a smaller engine than the Merc but is still the Fastest SUV amongst all the competitors. The Cayenne is also one of the best handling SUVs in the market. However, the GLE 63 AMG is decidedly more luxurious inside.

Mercedes Benz GLE 63s vs. Land Rover Range Rover Sport

The Range Rover costs $113,600 and comes with a 5.0 L engine. It gets similar power figures as that of the Merc. And while the Range Rover isn't as fast, it's decidedly more capable off-road. Inside, the GLE AMG and the Range Rover sport are evenly matched in terms of opulence and comfort.

2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 63S Final Verdict

The Merc even after getting the biggest and most powerful engine fails to create a mark in terms of speed and efficiency, that's where its competitors succeed in proving their presence. The Merc starts at around $109,700.

This pricing places the Mercedes in a very competitive place. The Passenger comfort isn't as great as the Land Rover and it's also not as fast as the Porsche. But the Mercedes still offers a decent SUV for the price it comes.
