Detailed Review

Mercedes has been always a synonym to luxury and C class is no different. Now building heat from BMW and Jaguar have made them imbibe that sporty intent to it as well. The insides keep on being the most lavish lodges in the market. While the C class isn't expected for an all-new substitution for a couple of more years, this mid-cycle refresh brings some striking changes.

The Mercedes Benz C-Class is available in total five trim levels out of which two we will be discussing would be - C300 and C300 4Matic (all-wheel-drive). Rest three trims (AMG class is discussed in a separate review).

We recommend

Base C300 comes along with a lot of standard features along with lot of available options via package items. These all make it a good and the preferred choice. But if you are not a fan of manual transmission, than going with C300 4Matic (all-wheel-drive) is the option for you.

Mercedes Benz C-Class base engine is strong generating 241 hp from 2.0 L turbocharged inline-4 engine, but in the same class with lower price comes the Jaguar XE providing 247 hp, 6 hp more than that of Mercedes Benz C-Class. All other cars in the same class including Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series are nowhere even near to it with 190 hp and 180 hp power respectively.

Acceleration

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is able to rush you to 0-60 mph in just 6.2 sec, credit to its widely variable timing valves. Turbo lag is there initially when the car started along with a sound from 4-cylinder coming to the ears of the driver. But the car goes as smooth as it can, as some ground is covered by it.

Equipped with adaptive braking technology including Predictive Brake Priming which sets the pads close to the discs for more immediate response if you lift off the accelerator quickly and Hill Start Assist preventing unwanted rollback, Mercedes-Benz C-Class is completely reliable stock when it comes to braking. It takes C-Class takes 131 feet to come to 0 from 60 mph, which surely can be said is not a good number to consider. ALthough there is barely any instability at maximum braking.

Seating and Comfort

Even though the C-Class is considered to be entry-level luxury vehicle, the materials used and sturdy construction exceed expectations. The room available in the front seats are spacious enough for taller adults that they don't feel confined when cockpit is wrapped around them.

The long doors allow easy access to the front seats. The rear seat access is impeded with the top up, and the front seats take a while to move forward.

2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan Competition

Jaguar XE

The new 2017 Mercedes Benz C-Class is costlier than the Jaguar XE, but doesn't stand to it. From power to fuel economy to trunk volume, Jaguar is either leads the class of is very much close to its rival. All these clearly makes a huge ground for the new in market, Jaguar XE.

Audi A4

The higher price of Mercedes Benz C-Class is completely justified by the the features it has to provide. With the luxury from Mercedes to the powerful engine of 241 hp compared to that of 190 hp, Mercedes should always be the preferred when these two in question.

BMW 3-Series

With comparable starting price of both the Mercedes Benz C-Class and that of BMW 3-Series, BMW does not stand up to it. Reputation of BMW, its efficiency and a delight to drive are what stands in front of powerful engine, comfort and a seriously upmarket image.

Although all the cars have a lot to offer and would be a worthwhile buy, the Jaguar XE has to offer better features than any others. Mercedes is for comfort, so Audi and BMW are for their efficiency.

2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan Final Verdict

When it comes to the luxury in compact sedans, C-Class is pretty much the benchmark. With great comfort, advanced infotainment system and pretty impressive on the engine with 241hp power, this car could definitely be the next option for anyone looking in this segment of cars.

But when comparing to the rivals in this segment of cars, Jaguar XE surely is the winner. Starting from price to the all the extra features that come along with Jaguar XE outways the comfort and upmarket image it contains. So if you are not a German car die-hard fan and flexible with British cars, make sure to look out to Jaguar XE when comparing to Mercedes Benz C-Class.
