Quick, smooth, and all-weather capable, the E-class wagon sports a gutsy V-6, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive as standard equipment. A hearty burble under heavy throttle is the only audible clue to its performance potential, and its acceleration in our testing was swift. -CarandDriver

The E Class has its priorities set right. The engine has some pretty solid performance but it is a cruiser first. As you put the foot down, you wont find a sense of urgency. The motor was engineered to aid in effortless cruising ability and to pass laggards in the right lane. If your intentions are to chase exotic sport cars then the AMG E63 wagon would be a better choice. Still, the E Class wagon can outrun other wagons in this competition with hits 5.1-sec 0-60 mph time.
Ride and Handling
Most of the people buy the E Class because they want to reach their destination as comfortably as possible. The suspension is pretty good at tackling road undulations and the cabin ambiance is super quiet. With Eco, Sport, Sport+ and Individual drive modes ensure that your E 450 wagon adapts to your moods. The drive modes alter throttle response, suspension firmness and transmission response.
E450 4MATIC Wagon features a self-leveling rear air suspension that is built especially to balance the ride height, thereby ensuring smooth driving quality and handling of the wagon. This balances the height of the vehicle and comfort level of the ride according to the variation in passenger weight and cargo.
The E 450 is equally relaxing in town as on the highway. The 9G-TRONIC gearbox is slick and provides for quick gear changes when overtaking is required and wafts along when you just feel like cruising on the endless roads.
Braking*
Mercedes Benz E450 wagon is equipped with 14.2-inch ventilated front and rear discs. E450 weighs in at 4,189 pounds. Data from the braking test is unavailable for E450. However, the pedal feel is firm. The application of brakes is followed by progressive slowing of the car. The brakes will not let you down and stop the car within the safety margins.
The E Class wagon is available with Active Brake Assist System which alerts the occupants whenever there is any vehicle or a stationary object is approaching and the computer detects a possibility of collision.
As soon as the drive starts to apply the brake, it provides an appropriate amount of braking to avoid a collision and even if the driver fails to brake, it autonomously initiates required amount of brake and brings the vehicle to a halt.
