Starting from the base price of $33,790, the 2019 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Cargo van is backed with two different engines. A 1.9L Turbo-4 mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 3.0L Turbodiesel V6 engine mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine could be availed for an all wheel drive option as well. The 2500 regular cargo cab features three lengths, two height options, and different payload capacities to respective engines.

The Sprinter 1500 Cargo van is offered in a galore of configurations, it comes with three wheelbase options and two height options. The regular height is not available in the Passenger and crew van but the utilitarian cargo van has that option. There are two options for payload. There are 3 powertrain options which directly bore different payload capacities. The Gas Powered Sprinter has 2 different payloads while the Diesel spices up your van with three different payload and towing options. An optional 3.0L Turbodiesel V6 engine mated to a 7 speed automatic which sends the power to the rear wheels of the van. The other powertrain feature a similar engine with the drive train changed to 4 wheel drive. This particular engine can muster 188 horsepower and 323 pound feet of torque.

Acceleration

The Sprinter might be a boxy van but it's not a sloth. The new engine option is more punchy and offers a tad more power which is clearly felt. You won't have the gut punch effect but fair enough to actually consider slowing. One thing which meddle with the performance is its sluggish start , you will feel the need to jab the pedal multiple times to torque up the wheels but the feeling comes and goes in a heartbeat as the Sprinter starts to shine soon enough. The turbodiesel variant comes with paddle shifters.

Handling and Braking

Sprinter turns out a fine van for both city and highway. The ride remains calm and composed without any chassis rattles or squeaks and boy roll was brought down to the minimum. The 2019 Sprinter dropped the hydraulic steering for an electrically assisted system. To say it's an improvement would be a shot in the dark, as the wheel is lifeless and deprived of any road communication.

The Crosswind assist was ripped from last year's iteration and installed in the new Sprinter which is a good thing. The road pavements obstruct the cabin only on high speed, hard turns and jabbed braking, otherwise the Sprinter is fun to drive for minivan standards. Speaking of the brakes, there is not much information available. But there are no significant changes in the braking realm from last year. So, one can expect a consistent and well composed brake on the 2019 Sprinter.

Towing and Payload

The Sprinter 1500 is the toddler Sprinter freshly introduced for 2019. There are two payload options at 3854 pounds and 4354 pounds, while the 5000 pounds of towing capacity remains stagnant for the two.

Seating and Comfort

The interior might not live up to the Mercedes name but that's everything a barebones van can do. Inside the Sprinter is largely forged form plastic with a lot of hard touches and plasticky textures. The seating position is high similar to the yesteryear's model but its more comfortable, courtesy to improved seat cushioning. There is center console and the interior gaps are fairly visible. The Sprinter's tri-spoke steering wheel can be wrapped in leather and feels good in hand. You have three different options for the interior.

Infotainment

People may say, Sprinter is a side project and Mercedes focus more on their luxurious sedans and coupes but that's not the truth. The fact that Mercedes implanted their brand new MBUX (Mercedes Benz User Experience) infotainment into the Sprinter shows it's an important project. You can have the infotainment in a 7 inch or 10.3 inch infotainment touchscreen. It might take you a few tries to get acquainted with the new system hygiene. The menus are clear and scrollable, you get a volume switch too. The steering wheel features some touchpads and buttons too. The only play with this great system is that faulty voice controls which responds to every time you say Mercedes. Also, different accents will be ignored by the system

Design and Styling

Hands down, the Sprinter is the most handsome van the was ever built. Some people might criticize the full-fledged van segment for having a poor design but that just about everything you can do with a boxy van. Fortunately, Mercedes makes the best of it. The front bumpers are unpainted and the steel wheels walk with their natural color. This might be discouraging but it looks fine on the boxy styling. Also, there is a plethora of paint options, frankly there are more color option than featured on your favorite sedan.

Leaving the Sprinter's cargo compartment everything is changed and made better and for that price the 1500 cargo is what you want.
