The Infiniti Red Sport Coupe doesn’t actually live up to the “Sport” in its name. The Red Sport hasn’t received a major update in a few years now and it really shows. The 2022 Infiniti Red Sport 400 Coupe is a carryover model and not many changes are expected to happen for the 2022 model year.

Launched as the high-performance version of the regular Infiniti Q60 Coupe, the Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe is a visceral effort to go up against other performance coupes on the block. And boy, we are happy to inform you that this isn’t an effort gone to waste. Starting at $59,000 for the FWD variant, the Q60 Red Sport Coupe goes head to head with the likes of the Audi S5, BMW M440i, and Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43. Although this is a technical successor to the Infiniti G Coupe, spiritually, it comes nowhere close, as it is leaps and bounds ahead of the old car.

The 2022 Infiniti Q60 Coupe is available in a total of three well-equipped variants - Pure, Luxe, and the Red Sport 400 we are discussing today. The brand has provided each variant with optional equipment packages to choose from, so as to have a car for everyone, depending on the creature comforts or performance additions they’re looking for. Let us now dive in and take a look at if the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport Coupe is any good.

The 2022 Infiniti Red Sport 400 Coupe is a standalone trim that is the highest end trim in the Q60 lineup of performance coupe from Infiniti. The Red Sport Coupe is available in both FWD and AWD drivetrain configurations and choosing the AWD option would be the wiser option as it offers better stability and traction. The Red Sport 400 Coupe comes with all of the top-of-the-line features from Infiniti.

What to expect under the hood of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe?

Since it was only updated last year, the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe will remain the same under the hood with no mechanical changes. The vehicle is equipped with a potent 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 engine that pumps out a healthy 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, ensuring that it drives just as fast as that long name getting us hyped up for. Although some people believe that this is a mini Nissan GT-R, we assure you, it’s in no way comparable to the Godzilla. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and comes standard in RWD drivetrain configuration. You can opt for the AWD config for an added cost.

As the name of the trim says the engine outputs a healthy 400 hp of maximum power and 350 lb-ft of maximum torque. The Q60 Red Sport can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds which is a respectable time in the segment. Being the range-topping performance variant of the lineup, it offers a lot more electrical and mechanical equipment than its regular counterparts. It includes 14" rotors on the front and 13.8" rotors on the rear, with red calipers and a sport-tuned Dynamic Digital Dynamic Suspension.

The Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe is certainly fast covering 0-60MPH in 4.4 seconds and finishes the quarter-mile in just 12.8 seconds but it’s still the slowest in the competition. It is also the most powerful on paper but the torque on tap is lower than what the rest of the competition offers. The BMW M440i sets ablaze the tarmac in the 0-60MPH runs with the best followed by the C43 AMG. The Merc also has more torque on offer and also thanks to its 9G AMG Speedshift automatic transmission and 4Matic drivetrain config for achieving the 0 to 60mph run in 4.0 seconds.

How does the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe handle?

The Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe is a great example of why enthusiasts prefer an analog steering system and not the electronic wizardry that manufacturers these days offer. The electronic power steering in the Red Sport 400 is not the best and the communication with the driver is not impressive. The handling of the machine is also nothing to be excited about. All of the other competition handles and driver better through curves and corners.

As far as the chassis is concerned, it is really rigid and holds the vehicle together when you put it through its paces. The suspension is not only stiff enough to ensure rapid directional changes without much drama but is compliant enough to soak up most road imperfections at the same time. Since the vehicle is likely to be carried forward, the handling of the 2022 Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe is expected to be the same as the previous model year and it is sluggish and unimpressive.

How many miles to the gallon will the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe deliver?

The downside to having a powerful motor under the hood is always going to be poor fuel economy, but we are pretty sure that anyone buying the Red Sport 400 variant of the Q60 is more concerned about the smiles per gallon than the miles per gallon. The 3.0L Twin-Turbocharged V6 engine returns 20 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway in the rear-wheel-drive version.

These figures take a slight dip when we move to the all-wheel-drive variant. The tank is the largest in its segment at 20 gallons and can take you a maximum combined distance of 440 miles, given that you are driving sedately. These MPG figures will likely remain the same for the 2022 Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe as they will be mechanically similar to the outgoing model.

BMW has been getting better and better at managing fuel these days without compromising on performance. The M440i is the most efficient in the above competition with a combined economy of 25mpg. However, Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe offers the highest range thanks to its larger 20-gallon tank while the rest of the competition offers only smaller fuel tanks.

What to expect from the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe’s interior?

The interior of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe may be slightly updated for this model year as it was refreshed for the last model year. The fit and finish, as well as the quality of the materials, are of good quality, and the use of leather all across the interior makes it quite a luxurious place to be in. But overall the interior design seems outdated and in need of a major refreshment.

The power-adjustable front seats are heavily bolstered and do a great job at supporting you while cornering. You get Semi-Aniline leather-appointed seating and dual-zone automatic temperature control for extra comfort. There are a decent number of storage spaces on offer to store your knick-knacks. The rear row seats as expected from a coupe of its size are not very easy to access and don’t provide much space. The sloping roofline also takes a toll on the rear headroom. The interior overall seriously need to be updated in terms of design as well as technology.

Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe offers the highest legroom in the segment in the front row whereas the BMW offers the best overall space inside. The Q60 Red Sport compromises the cargo capacity which is the lowest at 8.7 cubic feet. BMW M440i offers a balance between cabin space and cargo capacity while Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 and Audi S5 offer the lowest cabin space in the segment. Standout interior features of the Red Sport 400 include:

  • Matte Black Carbon Fiber trim
  • Semi-Aniline Leather-Appointed seating
  • 8-way power sport type front seats
  • Dual-occupant memory system
  • Driver's seat power lumbar and side bolsters
  • Heated front seats and steering wheel
  • Leather-appointed wrapped steering wheel and shift knob

2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe: Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe will come with a dual touchscreen infotainment system; an 8-inch upper touchscreen and a 7-inch lower touchscreen. This is paired with a 13-speaker Bose surround-sound system that offers a great sound stage for the vocals and punchy bass at the same time.

Even though there are two touchscreens present to control the media and the rest of the vehicular controls, there are physical buttons present right below and next to the screens in order for easy and quick access without causing much distraction to the driver. The infotainment unit even with the two-screen setup still seems outdated and in grave need of an update. Standout infotainment features include:

  • 8-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • 13-speaker Bose surround-sound system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • Satellite Radio
  • Navigation System

Will there be any changes to the exterior of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe?

The exterior of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe, down to the grille, will remain exactly the same as the previous model year, as it was just updated. Although some may find its design cues polarising, like the flat grille or the unusual kink in the window line, the vehicle grows on you pretty fast, as the proportions are on point and the entire vehicle looks muscular and butch.

The Red Sport 400 Coupe does get the unique dual brushed satin finish exhaust tips, exclusive 20-inch sport alloy wheels, and chrome finished red 'S' exterior sport badging on the trunk and front fenders over its regular counterparts. Overall from the outside, the Q60 Red Sport is still a beautiful-looking coupe and does not really seem much aged. The weight of the car is also on par with the rivals.

Q60 Red Sport has one of the largest wheelbases in the competition which translates into better interior space. AMG C43 sits a little taller than the rest of the competition thus offering better headroom in the segment. The BMW offers the best ground clearance and practicality and it’s also the most updated and recent-looking coupe as its grille proves it. However, the Infiniti and the 2022 Audi S5 look the best in terms of pure aesthetics. Standout exterior features include:

  • Unique dual exhaust tips with brushed satin finish
  • Red painted sport brake calipers and dynamic digital suspension
  • 20-inch staggered aluminum-alloy sport wheels with summer performance tires
  • Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) with auto-leveling headlights
  • A power sliding tinted glass moonroof

What safety features does the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 offer?

The Infiniti Q60 Red Sport Coupe features Infiniti’s zone body construction with a reinforced passenger compartment and front and rear crumple zones along with the basic set of safety features. The car is equipped with advanced safety features including backup collision intervention and blind-spot warning while blind-spot intervention is optional. The brakes of the Q60 Red Sport 400 include 14" rotors on the front and 13.8" rotors on the rear, with red calipers and it takes a distance of 121 ft to stop from 60mph. The following are the prominent safety features in the coupe:

  • Advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System
  • Backup Collision Intervention
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Optional Blind Spot Intervention
  • Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Cruise control with steering wheel-mounted switches

Will the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe be worth it?

Along with a really powerful engine, sub-par performing transmission, and no-so-great handling and braking characteristics the 2022 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 Coupe also offers a rather unimpressive sports coupe. The interior as well as the tech on the inside including the infotainment unit is really outdated and needs a major refreshment. Overall the beautiful exterior of the Red Sport 400 is the only major attraction. Other than that for the price paid, any of the other cars in the competition would be a better option.
