The first ever PHEV from Lexus, the 2022 Lexus NX will hit dealerships in December 2021. The 2022 MY undergoes a complete refresh for its interiors as well as exteriors. The naturally-aspirated and turbocharged gasoline engine spec models will still be part of the NX lineup. In addition to the PHEV, a plain hybrid trim is also on offer. The 2022 NX will go on sale for $37,590.

The 2022 Lexus NX breaks the streak of the five-year old NX 300. The new Lexus NX has discarded the old nomenclature for the trim options. The 2021 MY came with the 300 and 300 h hybrid as the only options. For the 2022 MY, the Lexus NX will feature four distinct powertrains and both, AWD and FWD drivetrains. Hence the trim names have been changed as stated in the table below.

The NX 250 and NX 350 trims of the 2022 Lexus NX get the option to choose from AWD and FWD drivetrains. The AWD system will be an intelligent electronic system capable of automatic torque distribution between the front and rear axles depending on driving conditions. The naturally aspirated NX 250 makes 203 hp and the turbocharged motor on the NX 350 produces 275 hp. The NX 350 hybrid has a combined power output of 239 hp.

While the power figures are not known for the 2022 Lexus NX 450h+, it boasts of an EPA-estimated combined 84 MPGe. The all electric drive range is a good 36 miles on this very PHEV model. The lithium ion batteries employed in the NX 450h+ are a newly developed unit. The battery has a 2.5 hour charge time on the optionally provided 6.6 kW cable. With the standard 3.3 kW cable, the charging time is approximately 4.5 hours.

Talking about the other trims of the 2022 Lexus NX, the NX 250 has a combined range of 28 MPG. In contrast, the turbocharged NX 350 offers a combined range of just 25 MPG. The NX 350h with its AWD drivetrain gives out a combined EPA estimated range of 39 MPG, which is impressive. The 350h is also more powerful and about 1.5 seconds faster in a 0-60 MPH sprint when compared to the outgoing hybrid model.

While the 2022 Lexus NX will be unveiled on October 13, the automaker has said that it will feature a new exterior. The overall dimensions are greater than the outgoing first-gen. On the rear the tail lamps are joined by a LED strip running throughout the width of the car with boxed letter badging of the automaker underneath. This is reminiscent of Porsche’s design language. The Lexus NX rides on 20 inch wheels .

The interior of the 2022 Lexus NX features the all new standard 9.8 inch unit which is a touchscreen. This unit can also be upgraded to a ccrisp 14 inch touchscreen. The interior features a 14 color ambient lighting setup and an $1,020 optional 17 speaker Mark Levinson sound system. The Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 adds some advanced driver assistance features like Emergency steer assist, Oncoming vehicle detection and Radar cruise control.

Also available on the 2022 Lexus NX is the $3,300 optional F- Sport package. This package enhances handling capability. Features include bolstered sport seats, gloss black wheels, an Active Variable Suspension and performance dampers. While the previous NX never was popular, this new model is better equipped than the rivals like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA and is also more powerful. This might rule in favour for the second generation model.
