The 2.5-liter inline-4 DOHC is the bigger engine of the two options but produces only 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The smaller 2.0-liter inline-four VC-turbo engine is more powerful and produces 236 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque on regular gas. With premium gasoline, the same engine can produce 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Both the engines come mated to the Xtronic CVT transmission.

Only, the SR trim is available with the optional 2.0-liter VC-turbo engine. The SR trim with the 2.0-liter engine comes in FWD configuration only and there is no option for AWD with the said engine. However, the models paired with the 2.5-liter engine offer optional AWD configuration except the base S trim. Also, paddle shifters are available with SR trim only.

Nissan has announced a special Midnight Edition Package for the 2022 Altima SR trim equipped with 2.5-liter engine only. The Midnight Package includes LED fog lamps, heated front seats, two-way driver power lumbar, single panel moonroof, Satin black Midnight Edition badge, loss black painted 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, black painted heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, gloss black painted sport grille and gloss black painted spoiler.

The 2022 Nissan Altima SR trim comes with a sport-tuned suspension setup and 19-inch alloy wheels. The upgrades improve the handling and cornering abilities, compromising the ride quality to some extent. The powertrains of the 2022 Nissan Altima might not be as enthusiastic as some of the rivals but offer very good fuel economy

The lower trims with 2.5-liter engine offer about 32 MPG in combined driving conditions. The 2022 Nissan Altima SR trim with 2.0-liter VC-turbo engine offers 29 MPG in combined conditions. The fuel economy of the AWD models drop by 1-2 MPG which is very reasonable. The 2022 Honda Accord and 2022 Toyota Camry offers about 33 MPG and 31 MPG in combined conditions (comparing similar FWD models)

The 2022 Nissan Altima features Nissan Intelligent Mobility Technology includes Apple CarPlay integration and Android Auto, optional ProPILOT Assist, Nissan Safety Shield 360 and segment-exclusive Intelligent Forward Collision Warning. The price of the 2022 Altima SV, SR and SL trim are $25,550, $26,550 and $29,990 respectively. The AWD configuration will cost up to $1400 extra on the base price of mentioned models.

The 2022 Nissan Altima Platinum trim costs $34,250 and it comes in AWD configuration as standard. The SR trim with 2.0-liter VC-turbo engine costs $30,900 and it comes with FWD configuration only. The 2022 Nissan Altima is priced competitively as compared to the other cars in the segment.
