BMW is rolling out a new software upgrade (version 21-07) for BMW vehicles with iDrive 7. The new software upgrade enhances the driver-assistance functions like lane departure warning, revamps the BMW news app, adds SiriusXM Pandora Artists’ stations, improves sound experience on the BMW M3 and BMW M4 and enables the use of selected Android devices as a digital key.

BMW is rolling out the next level of technology refinements to the BMW vehicles with iDrive7. The new updates include the latest Remote Software Update (version 21-07). The BMW Remote Software Upgrades deliver exhaustive improvements to the major vehicle functions, enable modern digital technology into the vehicle via OTA and verifies that vehicle’s software is always up-to-date. 

The latest software update improves the lane departure warning feature. The new logic of the lane departure warning detects when a vehicle is on narrow roads without a center marking and reduces steering intervention to a minimum. The new derived logic prevents unnecessary steering inputs that keep the vehicle in the middle of the road even when there is oncoming traffic. 

 

The Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) feature in the BMW Maps is updated to comprehend data from congestion on tuning lanes and provides better-calibrated routing as well as more precise calculation of Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), An advanced voice control for select Android smartphones connected to the infotainment system via Bluetooth enables an enhanced musical experience. The new improvements in key detection enables the driver’s profile to be recognized easily even when the key is not available in person. 

The new software update improves the sound of BMW M3 and BMW M4 vehicles using different engine settings: Efficient / Sport / Sport Plus. The M3 and M4 drivers will be greeted with a refined starting sound and clearer audio confirmation of gear changes along with changes in shifting loads in vehicles equipped with 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. For driving in noise prohibited areas, a quieter drive mode can be selected with Sound Control Button. A quieter mode also enables a more connected M driving experience. 

The BMW Connected Music can now play podcast playlists on Spotify simply by logging in the app. BMW vehicles that are equipped with SiriusXM with 360L now offer access to Pandora stations. The new feature enables the BMW owners to customize their own ad-free music channels so they can access music of their choice whenever they want it. 

Audiophiles can also rate the songs or skip the songs to customize the channel as per their choice of music. The Pandora stations will be available in all MY2022 BMW vehicles and later models that are equipped with SiriusXM 360L. BMW will provide a 12-month complimentary subscription to SiriusXM Platinum Plan with the purchase or lease of any new BMW vehicle equipped with SiriusXM. 

The BMW News App is revamped and provides functions for personalized and intelligent filtering of news with higher audio quality along with formal introduction of news feed. With the new BMW News App, accessing the latest news will be easy and convenient for all users. Customers can receive news only on topics that interest them with personalized news section. The AI will learn about user preferences and show articles on news feed based on past likes. 

The second-gen BMW Digital Key will be available on select Android Smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S21 Series, Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. The BMW Digital Key enables the customer to lock and unlock their vehicle simply by keeping their phone on the driver’s door handle and even start the engine when the phone is kept in the wireless charging tray. The BMW Digital Key can be configured via the My BMW app.
