Chevrolet Silverado has been lagging behind in terms of sales after the overhaul of the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. However, Chevy comes back strong as the 2022 Silverado 1500 will come bearing gifts, and the moniker’s flagship variant the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 has been revealed.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2’s first look will make you stare and observe the truck for quite a while as it receives some fresh-looking elements. The attention puller is definitely the front end which is characterized by a black hood insert and a new gaping grille with a hollow bow-tie logo. The headlights now sit lower, adjacent to the ‘blade’ shaped DRLs that exhibit an animated sequence when approaching, starting, or walking away from the vehicle.
The ZR2’s new form is specifically designed for rugged off-road use with a high-mounted steel front bumper lending the truck an approach angle of 31.8-degrees, which according to Chevy is the highest in the Silverado range. The bumper also gets removable end caps making them easily replaceable in case you manage to scrap it going over rocks. On the rear end, the dual-exhaust is now positioned behind the bumper to provide additional protection.
Coming onto the specs, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 will obtain its octane via a 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 engine, pushing out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Sounds familiar? Yep, a number of SUVs from the house of GM such as the Chevy Tahoe or the Cadillac Escalade share the same engine setup. The 2022 Silverado ZR2 will offer a towing capacity of 8900 pounds and a 1440 pounds payload capacity.
However, if you have your eyes on the ZR2, you definitely aren’t going to just use it for towing and hauling, right? So, to impress the off-road aficionados, Chevy has laden the ZR2 with a number of goodies including an upgraded skid plate package, DSSV shock absorbers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 33-inch tires, and uniquely tuned springs. Apart from this, the ZR2’s selectable Terrain Mode allows you to writhe over rocks, gravel, and other difficult terrains, using a single pedal.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 is impressive in terms of looks and capabilities but save that aw for now, as we are to discuss the new Silverado ZR2’s interior. The 2022 Silverado ZR2 gets a majorly redesigned cabin with the majority of the dash now dominated by a set of digital displays. The Silverado ZR2 gets a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The overall interior environment is quite intriguing with new available colors, redesigned seats, and better quality materials.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 will be available only in crew cab body style with the standard or the short-length box. It will offer 3 color choices - Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic. The 2022 ZR2 shall hit the floor by spring 2022. Though there has been no official word from the manufacturer about the pricing, we expect the 2022 Silverado ZR2 to cost around $55,000 MSRP.
