Getting a 0-60 MPH time of under 3 seconds is quite a feat to achieve, but a quarter-mile run that’s under 10 seconds is difficult to sustain. A quarter-mile run that is under 10 seconds requires the best building with the perfect materials, and everything has to come together like a symphony in harmony. Today we’ll be taking a look at some of the fastest production cars to do the quarter mile.

The Rimac Nevara is the fastest production quarter-mile car in the world, setting a time of 8.582 seconds at a trap speed of 167.51 mph. This officially takes the fastest quarter-mile car position away from the defending champion, the Tesla Model S Plaid, which set a time of 9.23 seconds. This was done while it made a quick stop at Famoso Raceway in McFarland, California while on its way to Monterey Car Week 2021. Another production car that has done the quarter mile in under 10 seconds is the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

Rimac Nevara

Prior to the world-record-holding time, Rimac had set an unofficial drag record in Croatia with a time of 8.62 seconds, but this one did not use a proper drag strip like the one at Formoso. To get a time under 9-seconds from a stock production car is impressive. To do that, the Nevara is powered by four permanent magnet motors which make a combined 1,914 HP and 1,741 lb-ft of torque, currently the most powerful production car in the world.

The Nevera is one of the few cars that is able to provide its passengers with a luxurious interior while having hypercar performance. This is very much reflected in the price also, as the Rimac Nevera has a price of $2.4 million and a total of 150 units are planned.

Being an all-electric car, it gets a high-performance 120kWh battery pack that in regular driving conditions gives it a WLTP range of 341 miles, EPA range is yet to be tested, but it should be able to get a range of over 300 miles.

The high-performance battery also gets quick charging abilities as the Nevera can be charged with a DC fast charger with outputs of 250 kW, 350 kW, and 500 kW. The 500 kW charger takes 19 minutes to charge from 0% to 80%. The onboard charger is a 22 kW unit.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is the fastest ICE-powered quarter-mile car to ever be made. It runs the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph thanks to its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine, which produces 840 HP and 770 lb-ft of torque when running on 100 octane fuel. In its standard form, it makes 808 HP on regular gas. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has a starting price of $83,295, which makes it one of the most affordable ways to do the quarter mile in under 10 seconds. The Challenger SRT Demon competes with the less powerful coupes such as the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Ford Shelby GT350.

The Dodge Demon was very popular when released and even came with a $1 Demon Crate package that included weight-saving wheels, a performance air intake system, and also a performance selector console that helps in selecting the fuel for the fastest quarter-mile time one can set out for. Additionally, as the car did not come with a roll cage, it was banned from competing in all NHRA (National Hot Rod Associations) sanctioned competitions.
