For 2021, the SUV segment has seen considerable growth in the sales numbers, and that is seen in FCA’s recent 2021 sales release as well. The company sold a total of 1,777,394 units in 2021, which was a decrease of 2% from last year. The Jeep lineup made up for 43.81% of these FCA sales figures, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee was the most sold model with 264,444 units sold in 2021.

The recently released FCA USA sales report gives an insight into the company’s sales volumes for the year 2021, and for the fourth quarter of 2021 as well. In total, the company sold 1,777,394 units in 2021, as against 1,820,636 units in 2020. In the year 2021, FCA saw a decrease in sales numbers by 2% compared to last year. The Jeep brand sold a total of 778,711 units, which showed 43.81% of the total FCA sales in 2021. Apart from Jeep, RAM sold the second most vehicles in 2021, a total of 647,331 units which made up 36.42% of all FCA sales for 2021.

In the 2021 Jeep lineup for the United States market, the 2021 Grand Cherokee made up for most sales of the Jeep sales. In 2021, a total of 264,444 Grand Cherokees models were sold, as compared to 209,786 units in 2020. The 2021 sales reported an increase of 26% in sales from 2020. In the fourth quarter of 2021 as well, the Grand Cherokee sold 74,816 units, which was an increase of 31% from last year. In 2020, 56,930 units of the Grand Cherokee were sold.

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee made up for 33.95% of all Jeep sales. The 2021, the Jeep Wrangler reported the second-highest sales numbers of 204,610 units. This was an increase of 2% as compared to the 2020 sales numbers, which were reported at 201,311 units. However, the 2021 Q4, reported a decrease in sales numbers of 22%. In 2020 Q4, a total of 51,109 Wrangler models were sold, but in 2021 Q4 this number decreased to 39,900 units. The Wrangler made up 26.27% of all 2021 Jeep sales.

The Gladiator and Cherokee had similar sales figures in 2021. The Gladiator sold 89,712 units, whereas the Cherokee sold 89,126 units. Together, these two cars registered 178,838 sales units, which accounted for 22.96% of all Jeep sales. The brand new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer had sold 5,349 units and 2,675 units respectively. It was in the Q4 of 2021 when most of the Wagoneer (5,307 units) and Grand Wagoneer (2,585 units) were sold. 

Despite a new model incoming in 2022, the huge sales number of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee tells us how important the car is for the company. There are five main reasons for the Grand Cherokee’s popularity: a premium and comfortable interior, lots of off-roading capacity, capable performance, modern technology, and heavy towing abilities. At $37,330, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is affordable, and its huge list of trim levels offers something for everybody. All in all, the Grand Cherokee is one of the most practical SUVs from Jeep.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes refreshed for 2022, with upgraded exteriors, interiors, and features. The SUV starts at a price of $37,390 and is available in five trim levels. The standard configuration consists of a 3.6L V6 engine with an 8-speed transmission and RWD. Four-WD is optional. The Grand Cherokee offers a towing capacity of 6,200 lbs as standard, which can be increased up to 7,200 lbs. The SUV offers a fuel economy of 19 MPG city and 26 MPG highway. In the segment, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee competes against the Kia Telluride, the GMC Acadia, and the Volkswagen Atlas.
