The Nissan Altima is a mid-size sedan that slots between the smaller Sentra and the larger Maxima. It was introduced in 1992 as the replacement for the Bluebird and has been doing well ever since its launch. For 2022 MY, the Altima comes with a starting price of $24,500 and five trim levels.

2022 Nissan Altima Dashboard

This year, Nissan has introduced a new Midnight Edition Package which is available for the SR, and the Premium Package now offers heated side mirrors with LED turn indicators. The midsize sedan segment is a competitive one and hence, the 2022 Nissan Altima has a lot of heat. It rivals the likes of the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Camry.

2022 Nissan Altima Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

The 2022 Nissan Altima comes with an upmarket cabin that looks appealing, feels comfortable, and has a minimalistic design. The dashboard layout is simplistic and the controls are ergonomically placed. The lower trims get a soft cloth-trimmed dashboard and metal-look interior inserts, but the higher trims get a contrast stitched leatherette-trimmed dashboard along with wooden inserts and metal-look accents. You also get a 7 or 8-inch floating touchscreen display along with chiseled climate control vents and buttons. Also, as standard, you get 5-inch MID, single-zone manual AC, and a urethane multi-function steering wheel in the base trim. But you can upgrade that to a 7-inch customizable MID and a leather-wrapped steering wheel in the SV and above.

2022 Nissan Altima Front Seats

The 2022 Altima comes standard with Zero-Gravity seats, which offer 14 different pressure points, providing excellent comfort on longer rides and helping improve blood circulation. The rear comes equipped with 60/40 foldable bench seats, with enough padding for comfort. The base trims -S and SV come standard charcoal or gray cloth upholstery, while the SR gets charcoal sport cloth-trimmed seats with orange stitching. Perforated leather-trimmed seats are standard in the SL and Platinum. Speaking of seats, the base trim comes with 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way manually adjustable front passenger’s seat. The SV adds an 8-way power driver’s seat while the SL gets you the same along with 2-way lumbar support. The Platinum trim gets heated front seats with driver memory along with a 4-way power front passenger seat.

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata offers the most spacious cabin in the lot. It also gets the segment best front row seating space with nearly 46 inches of legroom. But then it affected the rear row seating space. It is the same case with Altima as well. 2022 Accord offers a more balanced cabin space with plenty of legroom in both rows. But the roof is pretty low slung and it eats into the headroom. Speaking of design, the 2022 Sonata and Camry have slightly better interior layout than the Altima. But still the Zero Gravity seats on offer in the Nissan are still unmatched in terms of comfort.

2022 Nissan Altima Infotainment

The 2022 Altima S, being the base, comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display powered by the NissanConnect infotainment system. The infotainment unit can be controlled via touch or physical control buttons and knobs on the center stack. It can also be controlled via voice commands. Apart from that, you also get a six-speaker audio system, Siri Eyes Free and two USB ports for charging and audio. The base infotainment unit however lacks Android Auto and Apple Carplay which is a bummer.

2022 Nissan Altima Infotainment System

The higher trims get a larger 8-inch touchscreen display with better resolution and graphics. They also get Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, sound insulation, and four USB ports (two USB Type-A and two Type-C). The SL and Platinum add some premium features like SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, Nissan Connect UI, Premium Navigation System, and a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system.

Key Infotainment Features

  • 8-inch HD touchscreen display
  • 9-speaker BOSE premium audio system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • SiriusXM Travel and Traffic Link
  • Siri Eyes-Free Mode
  • Nissan Door to Door Navigation with voice assistance
  • SiriusXM satellite radio

2022 Nissan Altima Cargo Capacity

2022 Altima comes equipped with a 15.4 cubic feet cargo trunk, which is enough for storing 4–5 small bags and suitcases.

2022 Nissan Altima Cargo Space

The rear row also comes with foldable bench seats, which when folded, offer additional room for small cargo items. The cargo lip is also large enough to allow easy loading and unloading your stuff.

Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata offer slightly better cabin and cargo space as compared to the Altima. The Nissan Altima’s cargo trunk is smaller than the latter, but its cargo floor is the lowest. However, the rear row seats don't fold completely flat and this does take up some cargo space.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

The front row of the 2022 Altima offers a small cubby for storing mobile phones and other small items. Moreover, you also get a pair of cup holders, some storage space inside the central armrest, and a lockable glove box. At the rear, you get a pair of cup holders and seat back map pockets.

2022 Nissan Altima Creature Comforts

The 2022 Nissan Altima comes with a long list of creature comforts. The base S trim gets cloth-trimmed, manually-adjustable front seats, a 60/40 folding rear bench seat, a 5-inch color MID, manual AC and intelligent key. The SV trim gets a larger 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The SR trim offers charcoal sport cloth seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters.

The SL trim comes standard with a dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a power-sliding moonroof, a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, and leather upholstery. The Platinum being the flagship model adds multi-color ambient lighting, power-adjustable front seats with memory, and perforated leather-trimmed seats. For further customization, Nissan offers a Premium Package, and a newly launched Midnight Edition.

Verdict

The interior of the 2022 Nissan Altima is magnificent, spacious, and constructed with high-quality materials. And speaking of magnificence, the Zero-Gravity seats are what Nissan is known for. The front seats offer excellent comfort during longer rides thanks to enough padding and bolstering. Moreover, you get a decent infotainment system to keep you entertained. The cargo trunk isn’t the best in the segment, but it will do for most use cases. Overall, the interior of the 2022 Altima has both a utilitarian and sophisticated side. Moreover, we recommend you buy the SV trim and don’t forget to equip it with the Premium Package.
