The longtime workhorse from Nissan gets a major update for the 2022 version with some serious changes that please the eye and just make sense. The Nissan Frontier might not have been the best-selling pickup truck in its class, but it certainly isn’t deep down the list either. It still is a moderately selling truck with some mediocre features onboard, which meant only business. However, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is all set to change the perspective and be the best in the game.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

It will go through a revamp in exterior and interior designs and will have various infotainment and mechanical updates to make it technologically up to date and even more rugged. The Frontier King Cab is going to be the starting variant and has lesser second-row space and doors compared to the Crew Cab version. The Frontier King Cab competes with the Toyota Tacoma Access cab, Chevrolet Colorado Extended cab, and the GMC Canyon Extended cab.

2022 Nissan Frontier King Cab Features

The 2022 Nissan Frontier King cab is offered in 2 well-structured trim levels with two drivetrain options. The trims are S and SV, both of which come with an abundance of features and even have the same powertrain underhood, but the higher-level trim offers few cosmetic upgrades and driver-assistance features.

Also, Nissan is offering additional packs to bump up the convenience to another level.

We Recommend

Nissan always impresses its consumers with a wide range of utility-oriented features that come pre-loaded within. With the 2022 Nissan Frontier, it did a commendable job in structuring the trim levels with more emphasis on utility and towing capabilities right from its base version. But we recommend going for the top-tier SV trim with 4WD to get the most productive and convenient experience off every working day.

2022 Nissan Frontier King Cab Engine and Performance

The powertrain aspect of the 2022 Frontier is where it gets interesting. When everyone expected a downsized version of the pre-existing powertrain, Nissan decided to go on with the existing one and everyone was happy! The powertrain unit is Nissan’s famed 3.8L Naturally Aspirated V6 engine that churns out 310 hp and 281 lb-ft. of torque. These are exceptional figures when you compare to what the rivals offer, and that too for arguably the same price.

Mated to the V6 will be a 9-speed automatic gearbox which has proven to be quite efficient and functional without complaints in the previous Frontiers as well. The Frontier King Cab will be available in both RWD and AWD options spanning across two trim levels, which are named – S and SV. The pickup reaches the 60 mph mark in 8 seconds, making it the slowest option in the competition.

2021 Data used for reference

The Frontier might have more power and torque figures but it barely shows when it comes to the 0-60 mph and quarter-mile timings. This might be the result of the Frontier potentially being one of the heaviest trucks in its class, but Nissan hasn’t let out any data regarding the curb weight to confirm that. When comparing the price range, Nissan is the most expensive option above.

How does the 2022 Nissan Frontier King cab handle?

With an updated exterior design, the Frontier is also set to receive an upgrade to a revised and better suspension system, which will be based on the existing one. This will make the Frontier handle better around corners and is expected to help the Frontier get through some seriously rough terrains. With the King Cab being shorter than the Crew Cab, one can expect a better turning radius from the reduced wheelbase as well.

2022 Nissan Frontier King Cab Fuel Economy

The Frontier with its large 3.8L Naturally Aspirated V6 actually delivers a decent combined fuel economy of 20 mpg, which is not at all a bad figure as most of the rivals deliver around the same 20 mpg mark. The Frontier will deliver 18 and 24 mpg in the city and highway, respectively, and with a fairly large tank with a capacity of 21.1 gallons, there isn’t any reason to complain about the Frontier’s fuel range. The pickup can cover a good 506.4 miles on the highway with a full tank of gas.

The fuel range of the Frontier is definitely impressive considering the brawny V6 under the hood, although its contemporaries like the GMC Canyon and the Chevrolet Colorado manage to offer an even better fuel range of 525 miles on a full tank of gas. Apart from this, all of the trucks in this segment don a similar-sized fuel tank.

2022 Nissan Frontier King Cab Interior

The Nissan Frontier gets a renovated interior for the 2022 model year with all the bells and whistles that you’d expect in a modern-day pickup truck. The Frontier’s interior will receive a sound deadening treatment to reduce the NVH levels as well as laminated front side windows. It will host Nissan’s Zero Gravity front seats and larger storage cubbies throughout for a sporty look and convenience.

The interior will also receive optional features such as red accents and contrast stitching. Climate control might still be a manual unit.

The Frontier will receive major design updates in the exterior with a brand new front and tail section, which propose a futuristic look that will probably be the base for the pickup trucks from Nissan in the future. The front boasts a fairly large grille paired with all-LED headlamps and DRLs that give the Frontier a bossy look on the street, which the previous Frontiers definitely lacked. The tail also gets a revamp with upgraded LED lights and a brand new design layout. The side profile also seems to have gone through changes to match the front and rear looks.

The height of the Frontier has gone down by 1.5 inches, while the width has increased a tiny bit to 73 inches.
