The 2015 Nissan GT-R is yet another improved version of the beast that has dominated the segment for years now. There are various mechanical changes to improve the handling of the car for the 2015 model year, but the nature of the car remains the same. It is powered by the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 and has the same characteristics which still remains one of the best things in its favor. The suspension of the Godzilla remains sporty and it feels planted in the corners. However, this year the ride quality has also improved for highways.

Overall Rating

The Nissan GT-R starts at an MSRP of $103.365 and is one of the best cars in terms of value in the segment. The front row feels spacious enough for the driver and passenger to sit comfortably, but the rear seat is on par with the competition and is the best for carrying small luggage only. The 2015 Nissan GT-R competes against the likes of the famous German rival Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and the British rival Jaguar F-Type R.

We recommend

We recommend going for the base Premium trim as it gets all the features that you will ever need for your daily drive. The powertrain and performance remain the same for all the trims. The Premium trim also gets the option for premium interior package and cold weather package for added features. It comes out as the best value of all the trims. You can go for the Track Edition only if you will be taking your GT-R to tracks on a regular basis, otherwise, the Premium trim will work just fine as it can also handle corners very well.

2015 Nissan GT-R Engine and Performance

8.0/10

The 2015 Nissan GT-R is powered by the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that gave it the title of Godzilla. The engine produces a peak power of 545 horses and a peak torque of 463 lb-ft. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The power figures do not tell the complete truth here as this engine performs better than some of the more powerful engines also.

The power is readily available no matter what rave band you are in. The moment you put your foot on the gas, the engine launches within a fraction of a second without any power lag. The 2015 Nissan GT-R takes only 2.9 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill while it takes just 11.1 seconds to complete the quarter-mile run. The top speed is also an impressive 196 miles per hour.

The 2015 Nissan GT-R remains the fastest coupe off the line with quite a margin compared to the mighty competitors. It is faster than the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S by a complete second while the Jaguar F-Type R remains behind with a slight margin of 0.6 seconds. The Nissan GT-R also has the highest top-speed against the competition. The Jaguar-F-Type R comes at second position in terms of acceleration, though it has the most powerful engine on offer. The Porsche Carrera 4S comes last in terms of acceleration.

2015 Nissan GT-R Fuel Economy

9.0/10

The 2015 Nissan GT-R is all about faster acceleration and the best performance in the class. That surely takes a dip in fuel economy figures and fuel efficiency is not one of its strong points. The 2021 Nissan GT-R delivers 16 mpg in the city driving conditions, 23 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg of combined fuel economy. It is not one of the best in the segment but the performance justifies the mediocre fuel economy figures. It comes with a 19.5 gallons fuel tank that manages to provide a decent range of 449 miles on the highway.

The 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S delivers the best fuel efficiency in the segment and outperforms the other two coupes with quite a good margin. The Jaguar F-Type R is the only coupe in the competition that comes with a V8 engine and that does not translate into good fuel efficiency for sure. It also manages to provide similar fuel efficiency to the Nissan GT-R but the range is slightly lower because of the smaller fuel tank capacity.

2015 Nissan GT-R Interior

8.0/10

The 2015 Nissan GT-R comes in 2+2 coupe style and is spacious enough in the front row for the driver and passenger. However, the rear seats are not spacious enough to fit full-sized adults and you can use them for kids or can compensate for the cargo area. The cabin controls are very easy and everything is well within the reach of the driver. The driving position is also very sporty and comfortable at the same time. The driver gets an 8-way power-adjustable seat while the co-driver gets a 4-way manual adjustment seat.

You can go for the premium interior package with the base Premium trim to get complete leather seats. The Black Edition comes with special interior bits with unique black and red interior inserts. The Track Edition gets carbon fiber inserts inside the cabin to give it a more sporty feel from the inside. The other parts of the cabin are also made of high-quality materials and the cabin feels premium when you sit inside.

The 2015 Nissan GT-R offers spacious front row seats and there is nothing much to complain about that. The Jaguar F-Type R is the only coupe in the segment that offers only a single row of seating. It gets a slightly bigger cargo area compared to the Nissan and Porsche, but none of the cars are practical in any aspect. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S offers the least cargo area at 4.1 cubic feet and the Nissan GT-R does a bit better at 8.8 cubic feet. Standout interior features of the 2015 Nissan GT-R:

  • Leather upholstery
  • Carbon and leather trim on dash
  • 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat
  • Recaro seats (Black Edition)
  • Black and red interior trim(Black Edition)
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control

How intuitive is the 2015 Nissan GT-R’s infotainment unit?

The 2015 Nissan GT-R features a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display standard across all the trims and the features also remain the same for all the trims. The infotainment system feels very responsive to the touch inputs and the graphics are also fine. The brightness of the screen is not an issue and all the features are very easy to navigate. It does not support connectivity through any mobile application but directly but the connectivity via Bluetooth and USB port is supported. The audio is managed with an 11-speaker Bose audio system. Infotainment features of the 2015 Nissan GT-R:

  • The 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • 11-speaker Bose audio system
  • CD player
  • Satellite radio
  • In-built navigation system

2015 Nissan GT-R Exterior

8.0/10

The 2015 Nissan GT-R is one of the most unique-looking coupes in the segment as it comes with sharp lines all across the body. It gets the traditional coupe-like sloping roof but everything else in its styling differentiates it from the other cars in the segment very well. The styling is unique but not bad and it attracts many eyes on the road because of the unconventional design language.

It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and the front gets very sleek LED lights. The coupe looks perfectly proportionate from all angles and there is nothing to complain about its exterior styling. It is one of the highest coupes in the segment and that also helps it stand out in the crowd.

The 2015 Nissan GT-R is the longest coupe in the segment and it also has the longest wheelbase compared to the other two cars with an evident margin. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4S has the shortest length and wheelbase in comparison while the 2015 Jaguar F-Type R stands in the middle. However, The Jaguar F-Type R beats both the coupes when it comes to the width of the car with a slight margin of an inch. It also has the best ground clearance in the competition. Standout exterior features of the 2015 Nissan GT-R:

  • 20” alloy wheels
  • Automatic LED headlights
  • Daytime running lights
  • Lighter black alloy wheels(Black Edition)
  • Carbon fiber rear spoiler (Black Edition)
  • Front spoiler (Track Edition)

2015 Nissan GT-R Safety

7.0/10

The 2016 Nissan GT-R has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Nissan GT-R comes with a host of safety tech and driver assistance features for the segment. The build quality is also not an issue for the 2015 GT-R. The standard safety tech includes ABS for all wheels, electronic stability control, and multiple airbag systems. Safety features of the 2015 Nissan GT-R:

  • Adaptive Headlights
  • Child Seat Anchors
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring
  • Emergency Braking Assist
  • Emergency Interior Trunk Release
  • Passenger Airbag Occupant Sensing Deactivation

2015 Nissan GT-R Final Verdict

The Nissan GT-R dominates the segment with the performance that it offers. It is the fastest car in the segment in terms of outright acceleration. The track-like handling is enough to keep you confident in any driving conditions and now the ride quality has also become better than before. The quality of the interior is also very premium and it remains one of the most sensible choices in the segment. You can consider the 2015 Nissan GT-R without any worries.
