Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Also, the potential of this car to be able to be tuned and upgraded to a greater extent is what is loved by everyone. Some of the main competitors of the 2022 Nissan GT-R are the Audi R8, Acura NSX Coupe, and the Porsche 911 Turbo. Can the 2022 Nissan GT-R still prove its worth against its competitors?

2022 Nissan GT-R Features

The Nissan GT-R is offered in 3 different trims, with 3 different use cases. The Premium trim is focused on being a personal luxurious supercar. The Nismo, the name of which is derived from Nissan MOtorsports is the ultimate form of the supercar, but with added luxury features. The Special edition is basically a stripped-down version of the Nismo configured for better track times.

We Recommend

We recommend the Nismo for a complete supercar experience. The premium is much cheaper and could do well for most use cases but with a better-tuned engine and brakes, the Nismo is the true GT-R that we all love and desire.

The prices of the Nissan GT-R somehow remain to be lesser than they were when the last redesign debuted a while ago. The prices are expected to be somewhat the same as that of the 2021 model. Expect the base 2022 Nissan GT-R Premium to be priced around $113,540. The upper variant i.e the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO is expected to be priced around $215,000 and onwards. Meanwhile, the new 2022 Nissan GT-R Special Edition is expected to start at $220,000.

Release Date:

The exact date for the 2022 Nissan GT-R hasn’t been released so far. However, it is expected to be launched around October 2021. But given the situation right now with the pandemic, this date could be pushed even further.

2022 Nissan GT-R Engine and Performance

The 2022 Nissan GT-R will be available in three engine options. The 2022 Nissan GT-R Premium trim will carry a 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine pulling out 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque which will be hooked to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 2022 Nissan GT-R Nismo and the Nismo Special Edition trim will carry the same 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine but tuned to produce 600 hp and 700 hp respectively. The base 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine of the 2022 Nissan GT-R Premium can accelerate from 0-60 in just 2.9 seconds and a quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds. Now replace the Premium with the Nismo edition and it can do 0-60 in a breath-taking 2.7 seconds.

The steering of the car is tastefully light which makes handling very smooth and on curvy roads, giving the driver a good amount of confidence. However, the top speed and performance of the 2022 Acura NSX Coupe are a bit better than the 2022 Nissan GT-R.

2022 Nissan GT-R Fuel Economy

This segment of cars is not particularly fuel economy centric but still the base 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine of the 2022 Nissan GT-R Premium proves to be much more fuel-efficient than its other naturally aspirated competitors as it provides 16 MPG in the city and about 22 MPG on the highway and 18 MPG combined.

The MPG figures are the same as its previous models. Although all of the 2022 Nissan GT-R’s competitors hit the same ballpark in terms of the MPG figures, the 2022 Acura NSX is the most fuel-efficient in its class thanks to its dual electric motor hybrid powertrain.

2022 Nissan GT-R Interior

The 2022 Nissan GT-R has a sporty interior as you would expect. The space in the front is good so taller folks won’t find any issues getting in and out of the car. The dashboard is designed to be functional and is finished in suede inserts. The two-tone interior throughout the car looks beautiful. Small bits and pieces of suede trims make the car more sporty.

The center console has a lot of buttons with the infotainment system integrated into the dashboard. Recaro bucket seats are standard finished in Alcantara. The front seats are cushioned and are very comfortable. The bolstering on the seats makes it look sporty as well. The armrest is wide enough and comfortable for both the driver as well as the passenger.

Towards the rear, legroom is a premium. The rear seats are also cushioned and comfortable but are very cramped up. So, forget about adults, kids sitting comfortably is a big thing. Coming to the infotainment system every Nissan GT-R gets an 8 -inch infotainment display. The display is of excellent quality and there is no screen glare issue even in bright sunlight. The display includes HD and satellite radio with several USB and auxiliary ports. Major infotainment features include:

  • Electronic analog instrument cluster with upshift indicator, vehicle information display, and digital gear indicator
  • NissanConnect 8" touch-screen display with Apple Carplay
  • SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link with 3-month trial included
  • 11-speaker BOSE surround sound system

2022 Nissan GT-R Exterior

The design of the Nissan GT-R has been around for years and looks a bit outdated. The 2022 model year for the Nissan GT-R has the same sense of style as that of the 2021 model year. However, the exterior styling may receive some minor changes related to the aerodynamics of the car. Although there have been many speculations about the complete exterior change of the Nissan GT-R, for now, the 2022 model year, the design will be the same. The new Stealth Grey color for the 2022 Nissan GT-R looks amazing.

Although the design hasn't aged all that much since it debuted, neither has it lost its popularity in the JDM circuits, it is high time that apart from the colors the Nissan GT-R should receive a complete exterior change. With the prices for the GTR increasing every year, and competitors catching up with lower-priced vehicles with better aerodynamics, Nissan cannot stay ahead for far too long. Key exterior features are:-

  • Die-cast aluminum front shock towers and inner door structures
  • Aluminum outer door skins
  • Multi-LED headlights with signature lighting
  • Carbon-composite front cross member/radiator support

2022 Nissan GT-R Safety

The National Crash Test Agency NHTSA keeps a safety record of all the cars that roll on the streets in the US. For this, NHTSA conducts crash tests to determine the crashworthiness of the said vehicle. The vehicle’s safety in any factor depends upon the number of stars assigned to it by the NHTSA.

In the case of a sports car like the 2022 Nissan GT-R NHTSA has not rated it so far as it has not launched yet. Even for the 2021 Nissan GT-R and its previous models, NHTSA has not rated it. IIHS is another trusted road safety organization associated with keeping a safety check on all cars on the streets.

Unlike NHTSA, IIHS is an independent private organization that conducts its own set of crash tests for the said car’s safety. The 2022 Nissan GT-R was not one of their crash test subjects as it is not launched. However, the 2021 Nissan GT-R and the previous models also have not been tested by the IIHS in their crash tests.

Some of the safety features of the 2022 Nissan GT-R include anti-lock brakes, stability, traction control, trailer-sway control, hill start assist, front and rear parking sensors, front knee airbags, front-row airbags along with full-length side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. 2022 Nissan GT-R Competition

2022 Nissan GT-R vs 2022 Audi R8

The 2022 Audi R8 is one of the toughest competitors of the 2022 Nissan GT-R. The main reason for this is that the 2022 Audi R8 offers a roomier cabin along with the luxury interiors and its german origin. The 2022 Nissan GT-R is only performance-based. The interior of the 2022 Nissan GT-R is a bit downscale than the 2022 Audi R8. Even Tony Stark couldn’t resist buying one. So, if you are more interested in the interiors of the car and can afford the extra price then the 2022 Audi R8 is the better option to go.

2022 Nissan GT-R vs 2022 Acura NSX Coupe

The 2022 Acura NSX Coupe does not look as sporty as the 2022 Nissan GT-R but is more practical. The twin electric motor with the hybrid powertrain of the 2022 Acura NSX Coupe provides it better mileage and fuel efficiency than its competitors.

The engine of the 2022 Acura NSX Coupe feels more refined but the engine of the 2022 Nissan GT-R has raw power. So, the 2022 Nissan GT-R is a better option to go for than the 2022 Acura NSX Coupe if you want to feel the raw power.

2022 Nissan GT-R vs 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

The 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is one of the most luxurious and stylish cars in the luxury sports car segment. The engine performance along with its speed, mileage, performance, etc for the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is better than its rivals.

However, the most important thing is that the long-term reliability of the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is excellent. The engine refinement of the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is also very good. So, the 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe is a way better option than the 2022 Nissan GT-R in every aspect if you can pay the extra bucks.

2022 Nissan GT-R Final Verdict

The 2022 Nissan GT-R has carried the styling from the 2021 Nissan GT-R which was carried for many years and with no added features. The 2022 Nissan GT-R gives everything that you may need with less price tag. The 2022 Nissan GT-R proves its worth for the price it comes. Nissan has made a masterpiece when it comes to the engine of the car.

The main problem with the car is that it is outdated and people want something new. It still gives tough competition to its rivals. However, the true potential of all the cars will only be known after they are launched in the public market. All the latest news for these cars will be updated as soon as the manufacturers make an official announcement.
