Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The NISMO treatment gives it an extremely sporty and aggressive look, while other changes like a carbon fiber hood help it deliver impressive performance as well. With rivals like the Mercedes AMG GT C Coupe, Aston Martin DB11, and the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the 2022 GT-R NISMO faces stiff competition in the segment. Having said that, how good is the 2022 Godzilla? Read on to find out.

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Features

As before, Nissan is expected to offer the 2022 GT-R NISMO as a standalone trim, but from what we hear, there is also going to be a limited edition Nismo Special Edition on offer with a very limited number of units set to make their way to the US. Since the NISMO costs twice as much as the entry-level GT-R, it packs in a lot of features but still feels lackluster against the newer and updated rivals.

We Recommend

Since the NISMO Special Edition is expected to be offered in very few numbers and also is not expected to be any different apart from a few aesthetics, we think you are better off with the GT-R NISMO only which already costs twice as much as the base GT-R and brings features like leather/suede seats, heated seats, dual-zone climate control, Post-Collision Safety System, and more.

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Engine and Performance

The 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO will be powered by a NISMO tuned 3.8-L Twin Turbo V6 engine, much like its outgoing model. This engine delivers a peak power output of 600 hp, while the maximum torque output from this twin-turbocharged motor happens to be 481 lb-ft. A six-speed automatic gearbox channels the power from this mighty engine to all four wheels.

With a top speed of around 205 mph, the GT-R NISMO is one of the fastest and most engaging cars to drive in the market today. The power delivery from this motor is impressive, and the throttle response too is sorted. The motor feels refined, and the strong low-end helps it deliver strong pull at low speeds. It does feel extremely lively as you try to reach the redline.

The 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO is one of the fastest cars in the segment and definitely gives strong competition to the rivals. It touches the 60 mph mark from a standstill in just 2.7 seconds. But on paper, the Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe is the most powerful churning out a whopping 640 hp and 590 lb-ft torque. With the AMG GT-R discontinued for 2021, Porsche sits at the top with no contention. Godzilla, on the other hand, is a different kind of beast in itself. All the cars above can burn tarmac with their blazing fast speeds.

How does the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO handle?

The driving dynamics of the GT-R have always been impressive, and the NISMO Edition takes the game ahead by a significant margin. To start with, the vehicle gets a NISMO tuned suspension setup and carbon-ceramic brakes. The car will boast supreme driving dynamics and will definitely be one of the best in the segment if the driving experience is taken into consideration.

The stiff suspension, however, does make it a little bouncy on the rough roads, but apart from it, the GT-R NISMO is a great handler and will definitely leave a big grin on the driver’s face. The lighter carbon fiber components on the bumpers, side sills, trunk lid, and roof drop the weight by a significant margin, thus offering better agility and cornering performance.

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Fuel Economy

While fuel economy is not a matter of concern for the buyers, the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO does offer fuel economy figures that are at par with the segment standards. To begin with, it gets a claimed combined fuel economy of 18 mpg, while it gets a city and highway mileage of 16 and 22 mpg, respectively. With a large 19.5-gallon fuel tank, it is expected to deliver 429 miles on the highway on a full tank.

The overall fuel economy of the GT-R NISMO is decent and is at par with the segment standards. The overall range offered on a single tank full of fuel is great as well. Surprisingly, DB11 takes the crown home here with a 20 MPG combined rating and a class-leading 492-mile range on a single tank of gas. The Porsche and the Mercedes struggle in this regard with the 911 Turbo S offering the shortest driving range.

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Interior

The 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO is expected to feature an all-black cabin with high-quality leather used at most places to give it an extremely premium and sporty appeal. In addition to this, the car will get a number of modern features like dual-zone auto climate control, power-adjustable front seats, etc. The dashboard gets a big instrument console, while the steering wheel gets a lot of buttons to control the MID and the infotainment system. The front seats, in addition to the power adjustment feature, also offer a heated function.

While the seats are comfortable, space is at a premium, and the rear seat space is definitely not adequate. Despite being a 4 seater, practically only 2 will fit in the cabin. The car is low slung and thus getting in and out of the cabin can be a difficult task for many. The visibility too is not very good due to its low profile. With the NISMO edition set to make the car lighter, there are a lot of carbon fiber elements. Along with that, you get leather upholstery and Alcantara leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The overall space available inside the cabin of the 2022 GT-R NISMO is decent, but the taller folks will definitely struggle in this cabin. Since most of these are premium sports cars, information about interior dimensions is limited to make a comparison. AMG GT C Coupe is a two-seater, while other cars in the competition can seat four, although not comfortably. Standout interior features available in the coupe are:

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Alcantara leather steering wheel
  • Recaro seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Power-adjustable front seats

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO: Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO will be available with an 8-inch touchscreen system, which comes loaded with almost all the features at this price point. The car gets features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to other features like Bluetooth Connectivity.

The steering mounted buttons can control the infotainment system, and the overall audio quality from the 11-speaker system from Bose premium audio too is expected to be great. Just like other Nissan systems, this too will be responsive and easy to use. Few standout infotainment features include:

  • 8-inch touchscreen display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 11-speaker Bose premium audio system
  • Voice recognition audio system
  • Bluetooth Connectivity

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Exterior

The design language of the new 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO remains similar to the outgoing model. However, there will be a number of changes made to the vehicle to make it a fresh and more mature offering. For starters, the new car gets a new paint shade and exposed carbon fiber parts which not only look great but also help in reducing the overall curb weight of the vehicle.

The vehicle will also get NISMO tuned suspension, stiffer springs, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Apart from this, the vehicle also gets new alloy wheels, while there are no other major changes made to the car. In all, the 2022 GT-R NISMO continues to come with aggressive and sporty looks. The coupe weighs 3,865 lbs and stands 4.0 inches above the ground.

GT-R NISMO is one of the largest vehicles in its class and offers a strong road presence with decent cabin space. The AMG GT C Coupe and the Porsche 911 Turbo S are similar in terms of dimensions, but the Mercedes has a much more usable cabin space due to a longer wheelbase. The Aston Martin DB11 is the largest car in this comparison and also offers the highest ride height, which makes it easier to maneuver over curbs and broken roads. Standout exterior features include:

  • Quad exhaust tips
  • Black V-motion grille
  • Rear carbon-fiber wing
  • Power-folding mirrors
  • 20-inch RAYS wheels

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Safety

Being a high price and exclusive car means that neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has managed to test the GT-R yet. Also, none of the modern driver assistance features or the all-new Nissan ProPilot 2.0 makes its way to this GT-R, but then none of the other cars of the segment offer them either. It is, however, a pretty safe car, offering all of the necessary and mandated safety features, a highlight of which is listed below.

  • NissanConnect Services Emergency SOS
  • Front And Rear Parking Sensors
  • RearView Monitor Back-Up Camera
  • Tire Specific Low Tire Pressure Warning
  • Brembo performance brakes

2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Coupe Final Verdict

For anyone who wants to have a sports car that is well built, powerful, fun to drive, fast, and good-looking, the 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO will just be that perfect choice. It not only gets a tried and tested powertrain, but in addition to this, also offers a performance-tuned setup and a strong character which will always leave the driver impressed. The build quality and the reliability of the vehicle are definitely impressive, and at this price point, the GT-R NISMO definitely comes out to be an expensive purchase but does justify it with its package.
