Slotted below the Rogue Sport, the Nissan Kicks is the smallest and the cheapest SUV in Nissan’s inventory. If you’re looking for an SUV and are relatively low on budget, the Kicks is a practical option. It churns out adequate power to meet daily needs, is fuel-efficient, and, most importantly, comes with a decent interior.

2022 Nissan Kicks Dashboard

Last year, Nissan introduced the Kicks with a redesigned exterior and interior along with more standard features and safety equipment. For 2022 MY, Kicks is carried forward unchanged with a starting price of $19,700. That being said, 2022 Kicks competes with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Toyota CH-R, and Honda HR-V.

2022 Nissan Kicks Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

The interior of the 2022 Kicks is roomy and the design ranges from pretty basic in the base trim to a modern interior as you move up the trim ladder. The dashboard looks simple, clean, and minimalistic. You will find several plastic parts inside but they are not cheap. You also get a semi-digital instrument cluster with a small integrated monochromatic MID in base trim while the higher trims come with a larger 7-inch advanced driver display. Moreover, the SR trim comes standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and its instrument panel is decorated with leatherette and orange stitching. As standard, you also get a manual AC unit and cabin air filter in the base trim but that gets upgraded to an automatic climate control system in the higher trims.

2022 Nissan Kicks Front Seats

Coming to the seats, the vehicle seats 5 people in two rows. The front row comes equipped with a 6-way manually adjustable driver seat and a 4-way manually-adjustable front passenger seat in the base trim. They are very comfortable and offer impressive legroom. The base trims get cloth-trimmed seats, but the SR trim gets you cloth-trimmed seats with orange stitching. Overall, 2022 Kicks is the cheapest SUV in Nissan’s lineup, and once you’re seated inside, it’s easier to tell. Nissan has compromised on comfort to keep the price low. Even at the costliest SR trim, the interior misses out on a power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a steering wheel. Some of these important creature comforts are included in additional packages.

The Kicks come with the second biggest interior in the lot. The front row offers plenty of legroom but that compromises the rear row seating space. The Honda HR-V comes with the most spacious cabin and the most comfortable seats. But as far as interior design and styling is concerned, it looks pretty basic. On the other hand, the Toyota CH-R turns out to be the least spacious in the lot. However, the C-HR comes with the best-looking interior.

2022 Nissan Kicks Infotainment

As standard, 2022 Kicks comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display powered by the Nissan Connect infotainment system. Apart from that, you also get a six-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth connectivity and USB ports. Moving up the trim ladder, you get a larger 8-inch touchscreen display, SiriusXM satellite radio and additional USB Type-A and Type-C ports. You also get a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

2022 Nissan Kicks Infotainment System

The base infotainment display comes with smaller icons and that could prove to be troublesome. The UI feels intuitive and modern; navigating through the menus feels a breeze. The graphics are crisp and the display is visible in daylight. Moreover, you can also get an 8-speaker Bose premium audio system with headrest speakers, Wi-Fi hotspot, and NissanConnect Services via optional packages.

  • 8-inch Nissan Connect touchscreen display
  • 6-speaker audio system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Bluetooth
  • Siri Eyes-Free Mode
  • Navigation system

2022 Nissan Kicks Cargo Capacity

2022 Kicks offers a respectable 25.3 cubic feet of standard cargo space, which jumps to 53.1 cubic feet after you fold the rear seats. However, do remember that the seats don't fold flat.

2022 Nissan Kicks Cargo Space

The cargo hatch is wide enough to allow easy loading and unloading of your belongings. The standard cargo space can be used for storing five or six medium-sized bags and suitcases.

2022 Honda HR-V is the largest vehicle in the segment. As a result, it has the maximum cargo space with the seats folded down. However, when it comes to standard cargo space, 2022 Kicks offers marginally better space. Hyundai Venue and Toyota C-HR are pretty much smaller than the two and affected their cargo capacity negatively.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

At the front, you have a small cubby for storing mobile phones, along with a pair of cup holders, some space inside the armrest, and a glovebox. The rear row comes equipped with a pair of cup holders and seat back map pockets. Moreover, all the doors come with integrated door bins.

2022 Nissan Kicks Creature Comforts

2022 Kicks comes with a decent set of features despite being less expensive. The base S trim comes with charcoal cloth-trimmed, manually-adjustable front seats, multi-function steering wheel, manual AC with microfilter, power windows, push-button ignition, keyless entry and 60/40 split-folding rear seats. The SV trim comes with an automatic climate control unit, rear passenger seat heating ducts and remote engine start.

The flagship SR trim comes standard with a Prima-Tex-trimmed dashboard with orange stitching, sport cloth-trimmed seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Moreover,

heated front seats and steering wheel, Prima-Tex Leather appointed seats can be availed via SR Premium Package.

Verdict

It takes years of experience, subtle planning and expertise to design a crossover that offers a balance between good looks and practicality. On that note, the interior of 2022 Nissan Kicks looks excellent for its price tag. The materials used are good quality and you get decent interior space and ergonomics. You also get a decent set of features and a good infotainment system. If you still want more, you can equip the 2022 Kicks with SR Premium Package (which we strongly recommend).
