The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is a three-row crossover SUV that dominantly fills the void between the compact Murano and the larger Armada. It is a great choice for people who are looking for a rugged, capable, and stylish SUV that can double up as a family car. For 2022, Nissan has redesigned the Pathfinder from ground up and launched the fifth generation model. It steps into the market with a redesigned exterior styling and an all-new interior with second-row captain’s chairs, new infotainment tech and additional safety features.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Dashboard

The 2022 Pathfinder starts at $33,680 and is offered in four trims. While the base trim does feel pretty basic, the top end Platinum trim does offer competitive features for its price. There are several options when it comes to three-row crossover SUVs, so the 2022 Pathfinder has a lot of heat. It competes with the likes of the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, and Honda Pilot.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

With the introduction of the fifth generation, Nissan took a massive leap forward in terms of interior design and styling. As you step inside, you’ll notice that Nissan not only redesigned the interior but also improved the quality of materials and, most importantly, ergonomics. The interior passenger space now stands at 148 cubic feet, 10.2 cubic feet increase over the last gen model. The dashboard layout now feels modern; the decade-old design and the forcefully stacked central display are gone. Moreover, the dashboard is upholstered in soft leatherette and contrast stitching. The base trims S and SV get piano black interior trim and metal-look interior accents while the SL and Platinum get chrome interior accents and leatherette trim. You also get a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel in SL trim and above.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Front Seats

Seating capacity and trim depends on the trim you choose. The base trims offer seats for eight people as standard while the Platinum variant can only seat seven. This is because second-row captain’s chairs are standard in the Platinum but optional in the SV and SL. The front row comes equipped with manually-adjustable seats in the lower trims while power-adjustable and heated front seats are standard in the SL and Platinum trim levels. The 2nd-row bench seats offer adequate padding, but we recommend opting for the captain’s chairs. The third-row seats offer enough comfort, but we don’t recommend them for taller adults.

Although the 2022 Pathfinder’s cabin is the smallest in the segment, it offers the most comfortable and the most beautiful interior. 2022 Hyundai Palisade offers the largest cabin in the lot; while its base trim doesn’t offer much, opting for the Limited and Calligraphy trim levels gets you features you can find in a German luxury SUV. On the other hand, the Ford Explorer offers the most spacious 3rd-row but its interior feels pretty basic compared to the rest.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Infotainment

2022 Nissan Pathfinder sports an 8-inch touchscreen display, a 6-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice recognition, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, and four USB ports (2 USB Type-A, 2 USB Type-C). The display is smooth and responds promptly to touch inputs. You also have few control buttons and knobs to play around with the infotainment unit.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Infotainment System

The higher SL and Platinum trims come with a larger 9-inch HD touchscreen display, a HUD, wireless Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM Traffic, and Travel Link, a wireless charger, and a 13-speaker Bose premium audio system. Apart from that, you also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Key Infotainment Features

  • 9-inch HD touchscreen display
  • 13-speaker Bose premium audio system
  • Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio
  • SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link
  • USB Type-A and Type-C ports
  • Wireless charging

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Cargo Capacity

2022 Pathfinder is not only spacious in terms of passenger space but also offers decent cargo space. You get 16.6 cubic feet of standard cargo space, which increases to 45 cubic feet after you fold the 3rd-row seats and 80.5 cubic feet when you fold both the rear-row seats.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Cargo Space

The cargo trunk opening is large, loading and unloading is easy. However, the cargo floor is slightly higher; so it requires some effort.

2022 Ford Explorer is the best when it comes to cargo capacity. Hyundai Palisade did trade its cargo capacity for better front row legroom otherwise it should have been at the top of the list. 2022 Pathfinder on the other hand offers the least cargo capacity in the lot.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

You also have several secondary storage options. The front row offers a glovebox, a mobile compartment, a pair of cup holders, and a half-cubic-foot of storage space inside the center console. The second-row seats offer a pair of cup holders, seat back map pockets, and a center console with cup holders and storage space inside. The 3rd-row seats also offer a pair of cup holders and some space under the seats. Moreover, all the doors come equipped with door bins.

2022 Nissan Pathfinder Creature Comforts

The base trim of the 2022 Pathfinder comes equipped with a tri-zone automatic AC with rear vents, Nissan Intelligent Key, manually-adjustable seats, cloth upholstery, second and third row bench seats, 7-inch color MID, and a multi-function steering wheel. Opting for the SV trim gets you a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Moreover, foldable second-row captain’s chairs and a second-row removable center console are optional on the SV trim

The SL trim adds rear sunshades, 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, and power liftgate. Moreover, heated second-row seats are optional. The Platinum trim adds a panoramic moonroof, ambient LED lighting, leather-trimmed seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a HUD, and a full digital instrument cluster. Moreover, Nissan also offers an SV Premium Package and an SL Premium Package for further customization.

Verdict

Nissan introduced the fifth generation Pathfinder for 2022 MY after a long wait. The newly designed interior intrigues us; it is stylish, comfortable, and offers more space and features than before. You also get a decent infotainment system and several features to keep you entertained. Overall, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly three row SUV for your family, we recommend sticking with the S or SV trims. However, we recommend you buy the SL and equip it with the Premium package for a more serene experience without burning a hole in your pocket.
