After Nissan launched the Rogue Sport, a rebadged Qashqai, back in 2017, the SUV picked up quickly riding on the success of the original Nissan Rogue. The Rogue Sport is placed below the Nissan Rogue and received a thorough upgrade for the 2021 model year.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

For the 2022 model year, the Rogue Sport is slated to come as an all-new model and will be bigger in every dimension externally. The SUV will be based on the all-new and lighter Nissan CMF-C platform and will come with a regular gasoline-powered turbocharged motor.

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Features

The all-new Nissan Rogue will be quite different from the previous model year’s vehicle but it is expected that Nissan will retain the trim levels from the previous model year. The brand has not made anything official about the trim-specific features and owing to the limited information we expect that the existing features will be carried over along with the addition of new features. The prices of the trim levels are expected to be higher than the outgoing model and will start at $25,000. Some of the notable features of the SUV are automatic headlights, 60/40-split folding rear seats with sliding and reclining function, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and forward collision mitigation with pedestrian warning system among other features.

Which trim should you buy?

For the previous year, the SV trim was the most sensible one to purchase. Hopefully, for the 2022 model year, the SV trim will continue to be the same value-for-money offering as well.

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Engine and Performance

With a new design upgrade, the 2022 Rogue Sport will see a completely new set of powertrains as well. The vehicle is slated to come with a single-engine option only for the US market. The motor will be a humble 1.3-liter unit combined with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system for better fuel efficiency. The power output figures are not official but it is rumored that the power ratings will start from 138 horsepower. The powertrain will be mated to a manual gearbox but the transmission speed is unknown as of now. By default, the vehicle will come with an FWD layout with an option to choose an AWD layout.

The outgoing model with its 2.0-liter motor manages to complete the 0-60mph run within 9.2 seconds and the standing quarter-mile stretch within 17.4 seconds. The figures are not so competitive considering the segment rivals but things might improve with the new powertrain since it will get a 12-volt hybrid system which might assist it during acceleration.

How does the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport Handle?

The outgoing model never really did justice to the “Sport” tag of it but offered decent high-speed stability out on the highways. The steering was numb and offered no feel or feedback but that made it easy to maneuver in city traffic and tight parking spaces.

With the new design upgrade, we expect the SUV to arrive with sportier handling while keeping intact the ride quality. Also, if the brand intends to improve the acceleration times, then sporty handling will a cherry on top for the SUV.

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Fuel Economy

The outgoing Rogue Sport is not exactly fuel-efficient when compared to its rivals. The SUV managed to return 24mpg within the urban limits, 30mpg out on the highways, and 27mpg of combined mileage. The official EPA ratings are not available yet for the 2022 Rogue Sport but with the new powertrain and the hybrid system assisting it, we can safely assume that the figures will improve by a significant margin.

The outgoing model offers the lowest fuel economy ratings when compared to its direct rivals but as mentioned before, the numbers are expected to go up with the new propulsion system.

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Interior

The 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport has a spacious cabin with adequate convenience and comfort features on offer. The seats are supportive and the overall interior materials are of high quality. The dashboard design is nothing spectacular but functional but has a sporty-looking steering wheel.

With the new generation upgrade, we expect the interior of the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport to be more spacious and feature-rich since the existing model already offers some premium features such as heated steering wheels, leather-wrapped shift knob, and heating function for front seats as well.

The existing Rogue Sport also offers the most spacious trunk among the rivals only to be closely trailed by the Kia Soul. We expect the upcoming model to come with the same split-folding rear seats to offer even more cargo capacity than the present model.

Some interior features of the SUV are:

  • Cloth upholstery
  • Simulated leather seat upholstery(optional)
  • Heated side mirrors
  • Power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Power-adjustable passenger’s seat(Premium Package for the SL trim)

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport: Infotainment and Connectivity

Very limited information about the upcoming Rogue Sport is available as of now. From the latest info, the SUV will come with a bigger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display with features like Apple CarPlay, USB-C ports, 15-watts wireless charging, and a 10.8-inch head-up display.

The existing model comes with a smaller 7-inch touchscreen panel and offers some tasteful features like Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an optional Bose sound system.

Some standout features include:

  • 9-inch touchscreen display
  • Apple CarPlay
  • USB-C ports
  • 15-watts wireless charging
  • 10.8-inch head-up display

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Exterior

The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport will be completely redesigned which will make it slightly bigger than the outgoing model. The front fascia will look more aggressive with sharp styling cues along with the all-LED headlights flanking the wide grille. The rear fascia will also look completely different with sleeker taillamp units and a faux skid plate. The side profiles will be bulkier with smooth and curved edges and smooth lines running across.

The existing model is already the biggest among its immediate rivals and with the upgrade, it is going to be bigger since most of its rivals will be a carry-over model for the 2022 model year.

Exterior features:

  • All-LED exterior lighting
  • Automatic headlamps
  • 19-inch diamond-cut allow wheels
  • Heated side mirrors

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Safety

The 2022 Rogue Sport will be based on Nissan’s CMF-C platform which utilizes high-strength steel, advanced welding technology, and advanced stamping techniques to bring down the weight while increasing the rigidity.

Not much is known about the safety that will be available onboard the 2022 Rogue Sport but from the handsome list of safety techs from the current model, we can safely assume the upcoming model will retain all these features and will come with some more.

Some standout features of the SUV are:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Rear Automatic Braking with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keeping system
  • Surround-view camera system

2022 Nissan Rogue Sport SUV Final Verdict

Given the current pandemic scenario, you’re gonna have to wait a while for the upcoming Rogue Sport. If the teased and released information do make its way into the production model, the Rogue Sport will be more appealing than before, and based on its present strengths it will lure more customers as well. We hope Nissan will iron out the existing drawbacks of the vehicle such as the long acceleration times, lower-than-average fuel economy, and a disengaging driving experience.
