Being an entry level sedan in Nissan's lineup, the 2022 Versa does not have much to offer in terms of premium features. But among its rivals, it is probably one of the most comfortable sedans to drive in, and does come loaded with the essentials. The 2022 Versa has a distinct Nissan styling inside out and does prove to be quite pocket-friendly to buy and maintain.

2022 Nissan Versa Steering Wheel

Although it doesn’t come with an enthusiastic engine, comfortable ride quality, and impressive fuel economy make up for it. The 2022 Nissan Versa comes with a starting price of $16,100 and is available in three trim options which includes a manual version as well. It competes with the likes of 2022 Kia Rio, 2022 Hyundai Accent, and 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4.

2022 Nissan Versa Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

Don’t expect the Versa to be a feature-laden sedan; it is a base sedan in the Nissan lineup and only comes with the bare minimum. The cabin does look modern and simple with a black-tone color layout. The fit and finish is good with high quality hard plastic surfaces; you do get soft touch surfaces on doors and dashboard in higher trims. The SR trim even brings in a leather wrapped steering wheel. As standard, you also get a manual AC unit but you do have the choice to upgrade to an automatic climate control unit with the SR trim. Although the S and SV trims seem quite generic and basic when it comes to the cabin design and styling, the SR on the other hand has some sporty accents in the form of red contrast stitching here and there.

2022 Nissan Versa Front Seats

You won’t find power-adjustable seats with leather upholstery inside the Versa, but you certainly can choose the optional heated mirrors and seats for a premium. And also Nissan offers the 2022 Versa with cloth upholstery only. The SV trim gets upgraded cloth upholstery while the SR trim gets sport cloth upholstery with fabric inserts. The seats are comfy and wide. Moreover, there’s more space in the front row of Versa than what its counterparts have on offer. Also, visibility is good thanks to the large windows and windscreen. Coming to the rear row, you get 60-40 split seats that can be folded flat to make space for more cargo.

The Hyundai Accent has a balanced cabin with adequate room on both rows. The same traits can be seen with the Kia Rio as they are essentially siblings. The 2022 Nissan Versa on the other hand has ample space in the front row, but the legroom in the second row may seem a bit cramped.

2022 Nissan Versa Infotainment

The 2022 Versa is all about basics. As standard, you get a 7-inch touchscreen display powered by the NissanConnect infotainment system. The UI is simple to use and has intriguing graphics. You also get physical knobs and buttons to access the interface. The touch response is decent but there have been occasional lags. Apart from that, you also get Bluetooth Connectivity, a USB port, and Siri Eyes Free.

2022 Nissan Versa Infotainment System

The base trim doesn’t get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto; you need to upgrade to SV trim to get that. You also have a semi-digital driver’s display and satellite radio. Apart from that, there is no option to upgrade to a better and bigger display nor any option to add navigation. Also, there are only two stereo systems on offer. The lower trims get a 4-speaker stereo while the SR gets a 6-speaker audio system.

2022 Nissan Versa Cargo Capacity

The 2022 Versa might have proven to be a step behind its rivals when it comes to cabin space, but it offers the best cargo space in its segment.

2022 Nissan Versa Cargo Space

It offers a standard cargo area of 14.7 cu-ft. of space which can be further increased by folding the rear seats. But do note that the base S trim with manual stick does come only with fixed rear seats. The foldable rear seats only add more convenience.

2022 Nissan Versa offers the best cargo space in the segment. On the other hand, 2022 Hyundai Accent and 2022 Kia Rio come with the same cargo capacity since they are essentially platform siblings. 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 seems to have the smallest cargo capacity of 12.4 cu-ft.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

There aren’t many small storage spaces inside the Versa apart from the decently sized glove box, a pair of cupholders on the center console, and door bins on all four doors. The second-row passengers can also store small objects like magazines and papers inside the seatback pockets.

2022 Nissan Versa Creature Comforts

The 2022 Nissan Versa doesn’t come with many creature comforts and whatever’s available is mostly optional. As standard, you get cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats with no option to upgrade to power-adjustable seats or leather upholstery. The base trim with manual stick comes with fixed rear seats but you can get split folding rear seats as you move up the trim ladder.

The SV trim gets upgraded cloth upholstery and a rear-seat reminder while the SR trim gets sport cloth upholstery with fabric inserts, proximity keyless entry and remote start. Automatic climate control unit, and heated front seats are both optional extras available in top end SR trim via Convenience package.

Verdict

The 2022 Nissan Versa is a simple, yet comfortable sedan that packs some good infotainment features on higher trims and offers the best cargo space in the segment. As far as creature comforts and cabin space are concerned, it does take a back seat in the segment. But frankly the 2022 Versa makes up for its drawbacks with its simple, yet convenient cabin. Overall, it is a good starter pack into the world of sedans.
