The electric motor really feels very responsive right from the moment you press the pedal. The performance is good enough to rival any of the traditional diesel or gasoline-powered sports cars in the near price bracket. The 2021 Polestar Polestar 2 competes against the likes of the Audi e-tron, Tesla Model Y, and the Jaguar I-Pace.

We recommend

The 2021 Polestar 2 comes in a single trim level and it is already equipped very well. We recommend going for the standard features and packages only, as paying extra for the optional packages does not justify the price. If you are someone who prefers sportier performance then you can go with the optional Performance package which will get you 20-inch forged alloy wheels with summer tires, a high-gloss black roof panel, gold-colored seat belts, Brembo front brakes, and sportier-tuned suspension with Öhlins performance dampers. However, the standard trim also offers impressive performance and you can avoid the package if you want.

2021 Polestar Polestar 2 electric Engine and Performance

7.0/10

The 2021 Polestar 2 is powered by a twin-electric motor and both engines produce identical power and torque figures. Each motor produces an impressive 201 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. The total output comes out as 402 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. The power figures are very impressive even if you consider the other rivals in the segment. You can feel the difference between a traditional engine and an electric motor as the power is available right from the beginning.

2021 Polestar Polestar 2 electric Sedan driving view

There is no need for the turbo to kick out. However, the power feels more progressive compared to some of the other rivals. It takes only 4.4 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph which is very impressive for the segment. The power figures are good enough that it can even put some of the sports cars in a similar price point to shame. The quarter-mile timing is also very impressive at 12.6 seconds.

The 2021 Polestar Polestar 2 is impressive with its performance compared to the other rivals in the segment. It has the most powerful motor powering the car which is quite evident in the real world performance also. However, the Jaguar I-Pace beats all the rivals in terms of torque output. The Tesla Model Y and the Polestar 2 have identical acceleration figures, though the Model Y has a less powerful engine. The Jaguar I-Pace is also not far behind in terms of acceleration and offers very similar performance. The Audi e-tron misses the race with a very evident margin.

How well does the 2021 Polestar Polestar 2 handle?

The competition offers very impressive handling which makes the requirements for a good handling a must for the Polestar 2. The Polestar 2 has taken the handling part very seriously and their work in the handling department is evident when you get behind the wheels of the car. The steering wheel is very direct and goes exactly where you point it. The suspension is also well-tuned for handling and keeps the car stable even at high speeds.

The Polestar 2 even with the standard suspension setup is quite capable around the corners. You can push it really hard in the corners and it can reward you with some serious fun in return. The competitors like the Model Y or Jaguar I-Pace offer better handling, but the Polestar 2 is not far behind. To our surprise, the ride quality also feels better compared to the rivals. Although the suspension is stiff and you can feel that, the ride quality doesn’t feel busy and keeps you comfortable inside the cabin.

How good is the braking performance of the 2021 Polestar Polestar 2?

The braking is a very crucial part of electric vehicles with such an impressive performance. The brakes should be able to stop the car quickly to manage the acceleration as the acceleration is really very fast in electric vehicles. The Polestar 2 is a heavy vehicle and that’s why braking becomes an even more crucial factor. The Polestar 2 comes equipped with 14.8-inch brake rotors for the front wheels and 13.4-inch brake rotors for the rear wheels. The braking hardware is very impressive and so is the execution. The 2021 Polestar 2 takes only 102 feet to stop from 60 to 0 mph which is among the best in the segment.

The 2021 Polestar 2 has really nailed it in the braking department. It outperforms all its rivals in terms of braking distance which is a strong point in the favor of the Polestar. It is not a one pedal car like the Tesla Model Y as the regenerative braking is not as responsive as the Tesla. You can drive the Tesla Model Y using a single pedal as the moment you lift your foot from the accelerator, it automatically applies the brake for regenerative braking.

2021 Polestar Polestar 2 electric Fuel Economy

9.0/10

This is still the biggest question for most buyers before buying an electric car to know about the range of the car. All the cars in this segment have a pretty good range on offer and the polestar has thought this through. The Polestar 2 manages to score a seriously good range in all the driving conditions. You can expect 96 MPGe in the city, 88 MPGe on the highway, and an impressive combined range of 92 MPGe. The battery pack powering the engine is 78 kWh. The overall range is also very impressive at 233 in combined driving conditions.

The 2021 Polestar 2 offers a really good range in all driving conditions. The car can go really long on a single charge considering the industry standards for now. However, the Tesla Model Y manages to deliver a better overall range with its smallest battery in the segment. The Model Y has a better range than the Polestar 2 irrespective of the driving conditions.

2021 Polestar Polestar 2 electric Interior

7.0/10

The 2021 Polestar 2 comes with a very premium-looking interior. The cabin styling is very simple and elegant. The front row offers one of the best legroom for the driver and the co-passenger. All the controls for the driver are very easy to reach and you get a traditional driver information display which is not the case with its main rival the Tesla Model Y. The dashboard also looks very great but the space to put your stuff in the cabin is not that impressive.

The thing that differentiates the Polestar 2 from the other cars in the segment is that it uses all vegan materials for the interiors. All the bits in the interiors are made up of recycled materials. It boosts the purpose of electric vehicles even more as you are saving the environment both ways. The seats are very comfortable and you can accommodate a maximum of 4 passengers inside the cabin as there is a big central tunnel in the rear seats.

The Audi e-tron also impresses in this regard. However, the Polestar 2 manages to provide comfortable seating for a maximum of 4 passengers. What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2021 Polestar Polestar 2?

The infotainment system of the Polestar 2 is a big highlight. It comes with an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is powered by Google Android. That means you get access to the Android UI which is far superior to any of the interfaces developed by the car brands. Another advantage of the Android UI is that you get access to all the Google services. You can download applications from Google Play Store and it also supports Google Assistant which is way better than all the other voice recognition services out there.

There are a ton of connectivity features and you also get four UST Type-C ports inside the cabin. Apple CarPlay is missing for now but it can connect via Bluetooth to the device very seamlessly. The audio is taken care of by a 13-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system which does a great job. Standout infotainment features in the 2021 Polestar 2:

  • 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Google Android
  • Access to Play Store
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Google Assistant and Google Maps

2021 Polestar Polestar 2 electric Exterior

7.0/10

The 2021 Polestar 2 looks splendid from the outside. The exterior of the car is easier on the eyes and doesn’t look overdone. The front looks astonishing with the classy and subtle bonnet. It gets Pixel LED headlights on the sides which use 84 individual LED pixels in a single headlight. You can control every single pixel in the light to manage the overall illumination on the road. It looks great and also works great.

2021 Polestar Polestar 2 electric Sedan

The side gets 19-inch alloy wheels as standard but you can upgrade it to a bigger 20-inch contrast alloy wheel which is optional. The rear styling is also well taken care of and you get a massive LED strip passing through the tailgate that contains 288 LED lights. They look very attractive as they flash when you get near or away from the car.
