The 2018 911 GT3 RS was a great car and ticked all the right boxes. With a new 4 litre flat 6 engine, shedding almost 100lbs, and increased horsepower, its faster and noisier than its predecessor. The design of the 991.2 is more aerodynamic with adjustments to the front and rear bumpers and sharper fenders, which not only makes it faster but also increases the downward pull. As a result, the car is feels very grippy and stable at sharp corners. The driver always feels like he is in total control of the car throughout the drive. Weight distribution is fairly balanced even though its little higher on the rear side. Like its predecessor, the 991.2 is a rear wheel drive car, but it has rear differential axle which was absent earlier.

There is only one variant of the 2019 911 GT3 RS which is priced at $187,550. However, there are a wide range of colour options which include Lizard Green, Miami Blue, Lava Orange, Chalk, Guard's Red, Racing Yellow and the quintessential Black and White. And since its Porsche, the owner can always fully customise their priced possession to make it more unique.

The primary interior colour is black, however it comes in three different finishes, which are leather, Alcantara or soft touch paint. However, a special interior is also available which is a combination of Black and Lizard green which looks really dope.

The NACA air vents which is generally present is aircrafts cools the brakes increasing its efficiency. The custom brakes can also be upgraded to Carbom ceramic brakes which are 16.1'' in the front and 15.4'' in the rear.

The new automatic 7 speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) has crisp and almost perfect shifting which results in a seamless driving experience.

Powering the 2019 911 GT3 RS is a new 4 litre flat 6 engine that is naturally aspirated. It uses a new piston and a stiffer crankshaft that delivers 20 more horsepower taking it to 520 hp. The torque produced is clocked at 340 lb/ft. The ceiling on the RPM is also increased to 9,000.

The all new Titanium exhausts makes the 991.2 roar louder than ever. Even though it's a race track specific car, it's very comfortable for normal road usage and guaranteed to turn more heads than you would imagine.

The 991.2 is an absolute beast when it comes to acceleration. It has the best 0-60 mph timing at 2.9 seconds among all the competitors and finishes third in the Quarter mile comparison at 11.1 second @ 128 mph, just behind the Mclaren 570S Nisaan GT-R Nismo. Acura NSX Coup comes last in the comparison.

BRAKING

The 991.2 uses Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system. The regular brakes have 15'' rotors, 6 pistons in the front and 4 pistons in the back. But it can be upgraded to 16.1'' rotors in the front and 15.4'' rotors in the rear. It takes 96 feet for the 2019 911 GT3 RS to come to a complete stop from 60 mph. It leads all the competitors in the breaking distance. It's also lighter among all the cars.

RIDE AND HANDLING

The 2019 911 GT3 RS is an absolute joy to ride. As soon as you turn the ignition on, you can hear the engine growling, ready to hit the track. It has shredded considerable amount of weight and the improved aerodynamics and the added fenders as well as sharper spoilers increase the downward force and makes it fell much grippy than the 991.1. The electrically assisted steering is very responsive and the driver will feel pretty confident going into the sharp turns at high speeds.

Many Porsche purists complained about the automatic gearbox, but the dual clutch automatic transmission essentially makes the drive hassle free and seamless and only adds to the experience. The PDK sport mode hold the rpm at a higher rate for a longer period of time to give the driver that adrenalin shot. There is also the manual mode where the driver is in control of the up shift. The downshift is almost telepathic and instantaneous.

The 911.2 only cares about speed and lap timing and with a timing of 6.54 minutes at the Nurburgring, no one can really complain about Porsche deciding to go with PDK automatic transmission.

The 2019 911 GT3 RS has a fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg in the highway which is not surprising as this is a race track specific car. Acura NSX Coup is the most fuel efficient car among all the competitors.

SEATING AN COMFORT

The 2019 911 GT3 RS is very specious. The design is minimalist and functional, without too many distractions. The two Alcantara covered seats are well contoured and comfortable for a quick spin in the track. However, it will not be the most comfortable car for a longer drive. There is ample space in the cabin, behind the seats which can be used to store a lot of utilities.

The windshield is big and provides for excellent visibility. The back glass is however rather small which limits the view and the camera is not par with the competitors.

Nissan GT-R Nismo is the only car can accommodate 4 passesngers.

INFOTAINMENT

The 991.2 has a 4.6 inch touchscreen display which allows the driver to see data from the onboard computer such as the engine power, acceleration, tyre pressure, navigation and communication and audio settings.

There is also Porsche connect which can integrate your smartphone optimally into the car. Apple CarPlay enables to connect an iPhone to the 991.2 and have certain apps shown directly on the central display console.

There are also 8 Bose surround speaker which are specifically developed for Porsche 911 models with a total output of 150 watts.

CARGO SPACE

Just like most of the supercars, the GT3 RS has a fairly small cargo space at 4.14 cubic feet which is the smallest among all the competitors. The GT-R Nismo has the largest cargo capacity at 8.8 cubic feet.

Both Porsche and Mclaren have loyal fan bases and are loved by racing enthusiasts throughout the world. With price tags of $ 187,500 and $188,600 respectively, these two beasts match each other specs to specs. While the Porsche has the faster acceleration, Mclaren was the quickest to complete the quarter mile. The British car has higher engine power and torque, but both of them are absolute joy to drive in the racing track.

The fuel economy of both the cars are also similar. Hence choosing one of these cars over the other will ultimately boil down to your personal preference.

911 GT3 RS vs Acura NSX Coupe

With a price tag of $ 159,500, the Japanese built Acura NSX Coup is almost $ 30,000 cheaper than its German counterpart. Acura has a higher engine power and torque, but still it was slower than the Porsche in both 0-60 mph and quarter mile timing.

The 991.2 also easily beat the Acura NSX Coup in the braking test. However, Acura NSX Coup was far more fuel efficient than the Porsche.

911 GT3 RS vs Nissan GT-R Nismo

The only race track specific car along with the 991.2, the Nissan GT-R Nismo is an absolute beast. It has a much more powerful engine and delivers considerable amount of more torque torque, at a price of $175,540. The Porsche however shows its raw power by beating the Japanese counterpart in the acceleration test. However, the Nismo was a tad bit quicker in the quarter mile test.

When it comes to braking capacity, the 991.2 was again quicker. It's also very hard to differentiate between the cars based on fuel efficiency. But then again, no one buys a 911 GT3 RS or GT-R Nismo because of their fuel efficiency.

The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is an almost perfect car. Almost because Porsche will again find ways to better this superb sample of German engineering as they have done time and again in the past. A beast in the race track, 991.2 is built to better the lap timings and it does that very efficiently. With better aerodynamics and downward force, this car just cruises along and the PDK transmission only intensifies the driving experience. When all said and done, this car is a masterpiece that defies physics and worth every penny of the $ 187,500 price tag attached to it.
