Porsche Cayenne is a mid-size luxury SUV that has been around for a while now, and it still stays true to its genesis and retains the sportiness and Porsche’s DNA. To start with, the 2014 Porsche Cayenne is a part of the second generation model that was launched back in 2010, and there are no major revamps for 2014. As soon as you hear the name Porsche, performance is the only thing that comes to your mind, and this Cayenne definitely lives up to it.

The 2014 Cayenne also comes with a wide range of trim levels. Moving on to the interior, it looks absolutely stunning to behold and is such a great place to be in. Behind the wheel, it gives you the adrenaline rush and spirited driving joy you get from the Porsche 911. Furthermore, it rivals the likes of other capable SUVs like the 2014 Audi Q7, 2014 Acura MDX, and 2014 BMW X5.

Which Trim should you buy?

We recommend the S trim as it offers everything you would want from a luxury premium car with oodles of performance and driving fun. At the same time, it is not very expensive compared to the Platinum trim. As standard, it also gets features like Leather upholstery, Heated mirrors, a leather steering wheel, front bucket seats, and a 10 speaker premium audio system. If this doesn’t suit your needs, you can opt for the GTS which would cost you a fortune.

2014 Porsche Cayenne Engine and Performance

8.0/10

This is the part where the 2014 Porsche Cayenne clearly outperforms its competition by a substantial margin and shows its true colors. There are three engine options available, including a 3.6-liter V6 engine, a 4.8-liter V8 engine, and a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine for better fuel efficiency. The base gasoline motor cranks out 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque that performs seemingly better than its rivals. But when you opt for the 4.8-liter V8 engine, things get even more fun and engaging. This engine definitely has the sporty nature of the Porsche. When it comes to performance, the Cayenne hits 0-60 mph in a legit quick 6 seconds. It manages to clock a quarter-mile time of 12.7 seconds and maxes out at 160 mph.

Comparing the competition, the Porsche Cayenne has the largest engine of the lot with a 3.6-liter V6. All three rivals in the competition incorporate an automatic transmission. The Audi Q7 cranks out 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque which is the highest in the segment but not really fast as some of its counterparts. When it comes to performance, Porsche Cayenne takes down all its rivals by a considerable margin despite having mediocre engine power figures. With a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds, the BMW happens to be the fastest to 60 mph.

2014 Porsche Cayenne Fuel Economy

8.0/10

Porsche is not really impressive when it comes to fuel economy as it returns a substandard fuel economy. The Porsche Cayenne offers a fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. When combined, it gives a fuel economy of 18 mpg, and it also has the smallest fuel tank of 26.4 gallons and somehow manages to cover a distance of 396 miles in the city and 580.5 miles while cruising on the highway.

In comparison, all the cars are closely stacked against each other except for Porsche, but it is the Audi Q7 that delivers the best fuel economy numbers in the competition. The Audi Q7 delivers 22 mpg combined, which is the highest in the class, while the Porsche Cayenne delivers the least combined fuel economy of 18 mpg. The Acura MDX and BMW X5 deliver similar fuel economy numbers.

2014 Porsche Cayenne Interior

9.0/10

Flamboyance is the right word to define the interior of the Porsche Cayenne. The interior is quite spectacular with a plethora of color options to choose from. Porsche also offers dual-tone interior color options to enhance the commuting experience. Even the base trim gets upscale leather bolstered upholstery, and seats are utterly comfortable indeed. Also, it is 8-way power-adjustable that helps adjust the seating position as per your comfort.

Coming to the interior dimensions, the Porsche Cayenne has a seating capacity of five passengers. It has one of the highest headroom in the front row space measuring 39.6 inches and offers a front shoulder room of 58.9 inches. However, the other interior dimensions remain unknown. In terms of cargo capacity, the cargo volume of the Porsche Cayenne is 26.4 cubic feet, which is one of the largest in its class.

All the cars in the segment offer similar interior dimensions for the passengers. However, in terms of quality and fit and finish, both Porsche and BMW just feel a bit superior compared to all the other cars in the competition. Both Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne share the same size when it comes to cargo capacity measuring 26.4 inches. On the other hand, Acura has the smallest cargo space of only 19.5 cubic feet. Some of the standout interior features are as follows:

  • Speed-Sensitive Volume Control

2014 Porsche Cayenne Exterior

6.0/10

Speaking of the exterior styling, this Porsche very well holds on to the true character and personality of the Porsche and looks like a sports car disguised as an SUV. The headlights look bold and sleek, and it is integrated with dual bi-xenon headlamps that look really arresting. The styling cue and the crease lines are very clean and streamlined. You can just tell that it is very aero efficient even at your first glance.

The Porsche Cayenne looks long but not as long as its contemporaries, and it stands at 191 inches long, 76 inches wide, and 67 inches tall. It has a modest wheelbase of 132.6 inches and hangs 9 inches above the ground, which is the highest ground clearance in its segment. On the upside, the Porsche Cayenne turns out to be one of the lightest cars in its segment. As a result, it delivers mind-blowing driving dynamics.

2014 Porsche Cayenne Final Verdict

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne is an all-rounded package and one of the best SUVs out there. Although it gets no changes for 2014, it still is one of the power-packed and magnificent cars in its segment. On the contrary, it has some negatives as well. That said, it offers a subpar fuel economy, and some may find the performance of the V6 to be underwhelming. Apart from that, it is such a desirable car from Porsche and it has set a benchmark in the luxury SUV segment. If you are looking for an SUV with spirited performance and frolic to drive, then the Porsche Cayenne could be the right car for you.
