Engine

7.6/10

“Cayenne GTS rewards a heavy right foot. The GTS, a Turbo-look version of Porsche’s best-selling model—which slots between the S and the Turbo—has lost two cylinders but gains 20 horsepower in the transition from its former naturally aspirated V-8 powerplant to the new twin-turbo six. This is the same blown 3.6-liter V-6 that powers the revamped Cayenne S, but here it’s tuned to deliver 440 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque rather than 420 and 406.” – Car and Driver

Engine and Transmission

2018 Porsche Cayenne GTS flaunts to have a 3.6L Twin-Turbo V6 w/Direct Fuel Injection engine. It is capable of generating 440 hp and 443 lb.-ft. of power and torque, respectively. BMW X6 xDrive50i offers a slightly higher power, 445 hp, than the Cayenne GTS.

While Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio offers the most power among the competition, Maserati Levante S offers the least. 505 hp and 424 hp, respectively.

Competition

Porsche Cayenne GTS vs Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

Despite costing $20k less than the 2018 Porsche Cayenne GTS, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio boasts more power that directly translates to quicker acceleration. The Stelvio also offers sharp handling but is let down by its unimpressive interiors.

Porsche Cayenne GTS vs BMW X6 xDrive50i

With the 445 hp 4.4L 32 Valve V8 engine, BMW X6 xDrive50i is second only to the Stelvio Quadrifoglio in terms of power. Also, it is the cheapest SUV compared here at $77,700. That said, the X6 does not lack anywhere – be it capability, luxury, or quality. What’s missing here is the exclusivity factor.

Porsche Cayenne GTS vs Maserati Levante S

Maserati Levante S boasts a glorious sounding 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 engine delivering 424 hp of power and 428 lb.-ft. of torque. While it’s low on grunt, the Levant looks the most exotic of the bunch with the iconic Trident badge.

Final Verdict

2018 Porsche Cayenne GTS delivers the best of both worlds – sports and utility. The fuel economy is good and there is plenty of space inside. Interiors are comfortable, elegant and practical, while exteriors radiate the aesthetics of a sports car. Pricing is the only thing that can get you thinking, though.

Nonetheless, for those looking to enjoy a mid-size crossover SUV that is reliable, powerful and elegant, the 2018 Porsche Cayenne GTS is worth going for.
