Porsche has always been keen on blending performance with practicality and aesthetics, and Macan is yet another feather in the automaker’s cap. 2022 Macan would be a carryover of the ongoing model, speculating some minor cosmetic updates. Packed with a lot of features, it is a bit pricier than the rivals. However, it gets you excellent drivability, sleek handling, comfortable ride, and sophistication, satisfying any buyer. With feature-packed infotainment on the inside, Macan is one of the best offerings from Porsche. The base Porsche Macan is equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4, that pushes out 248 horsepower.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Apart from this, one shall opt for a 3.0L turbocharged V6 churning out 348 horses, and a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 churning out 375 horsepower. The 2022 model year would also witness the introduction of an EV, which is rumored to produce a massive 700 hp and 750 lb.-ft with its dual electric motors. Being a carryover, we do expect the prices to start from $54,000. The 2022 Porsche Macan competes the mighty Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Audi Q5, and the BMW X3.

2022 Porsche Macan Features

The 2022 Porsche Macan is available in four trim levels as per increasing performance: base, S, Turbo, and GTS. All models come standard with an all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base Macan SUV can be coupled with available packages- Premium and Premium Plus.

The base trim comes powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The model adds standard features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, leather, and faux suede upholstery, 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The Premium Package Plus comes at an additional cost of $7,400, adding features such as surround view, Ventilated front seats, LED taillights, and Roof rails in aluminum finish.

We Recommend

The entry-level Macan is good to fulfill your desire unless you need a power boost then we would directly go with the Macan S that features a powerful turbocharged V6. However, with the base Macan, we would recommend going with the Premium package that gets an amazing set of luxury features.

2022 Porsche Macan Price

Being a carryover model, the prices are speculated to be similar to the ongoing Macan. The price would start at around $54,000 and may go up to $74,000. The prices of the upcoming EV variant of Macan are still a question mark.

2022 Porsche Macan Release Date

Porsche hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the release date of the 2022 Macan. However, if the speculations are right, the new entrant shall arrive by the fall of 2021.

2022 Porsche Macan Engine and Performance

The Porsche Macan gets equipped with a 2.0L Turbocharged Inline-4 engine that produces 248 horses and 273 lb.-ft. of torque paired with a 7-speed shiftable automatic transmission. One shall also opt for a more athletic powertrain featuring a 3.0L Turbocharged V6 churning out 348 horses and 354 lb.-ft. of torque, or a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 producing 375 horses and 383 lb.-ft. of torque.

All the powertrains deliver power to the wheels via an AWD drivetrain. Though the power figures don’t seem the best in the segment, the power is adequate and in proportion concerning the weight of the vehicle. This makes it a perfect pick to suit your daily drives. The transmission unit is praised well by anyone who has driven the Macan. The shifts are smooth and sleek, which reduces the daily hassles of driving.

With the standard engine under the hood, the 2022 Porsche Macan would sprint to 60 MPH within 6.3 seconds and complete the quarter-mile race in 15.1 seconds, quick indeed but not like the rivals. The similarly equipped Audi Q5 does the 0-60MPH in 5.9 seconds taking the crown, followed by 6 seconds of BMW X3, and the 6.1 seconds of the Merc-Benz GLC-Class.

The Audi Q5 completes the quarter-mile race in 14.2 seconds while Bimmer and Merc do it in 14.8 seconds. Porsche stands behind the rivals by a slight edge when it comes to the acceleration figures. However, Macan GTS does the 0-60 MPH run in 4.7 seconds but is priced higher.

2022 Porsche Macan Fuel Economy

The turbo motor in the 2022 Porsche Macan would drink up fuel plentifully, dragging it to the last in the list. The luxury compact SUV gets you 19 MPG in the city, 23MPG on the highway, and a combined 21 MPG. With a large gas tank of 19.8 gallons, it manages to deliver 376 miles of range in the city, 455miles on highways, and 416 miles combined.

Compared with the rivals, the figures don’t seem impressive. BMW X3 gets you the best-in-class mileage with 25 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on highways, and 27 MPG combined. The 17.2-gallon tank on the X3 gets you fairly the best range figures too. It is followed closely by the Audi Q5 and the Merc-Benz GLC-Class.

2022 Porsche Macan Interior

The standard interior of the Macan isn’t the best when compared to the rivals. While the rivals offer luxurious and spacious cabins, Macan offers less for a higher price tag. The 8-way power-adjustable front seats offer good comfort and luxury. They seem quite premium in looks and finishes. One shall opt for a 14-way electric seat with memory function or an 18-way adaptive sport seat as well. The rear seats don’t offer ample space for the occupants, neither does it support the occupants as the rivals do.

However, the 2022 model year would witness a redesigned center console. Featuring a flatter screen and taking off the physical controls would surely improve the appeal. The steering wheel would also witness changes to be better than the one in the 2021 model year, getting every control into the driver’s hands without taking eyes off the line. The soft-touch plastics over the dash get good finishes all around, which assures quality. The suede leather touches would make it feel up-class. The middle of the dash would feature an analog watch. The Porsche Connect Infotainment System is the best attraction in the cabin.

The sleek and engaging system features Apple CarPlay for standard. The touchpad controller in the dash would control the functions. The system is interactive and faster than the ongoing one. In-built navigation, Satellite Radio, and four USB ports would help you set up your daily drives. Android Auto remains a question mark. You also get other convenience features such as wireless device charging, proximity keyless entry, remote engine start, and many more. Music is enhanced with the Burmester surround sound system. Physical controls for climate and audio shall be seen beneath the screen, which would help until you get used to the new cockpit.

The trunk is the least spacious for the 2022 Porsche Macan when compared to the rivals. While Macan offers 17.6 cubic feet of cargo space, BMW X3 offers 28.7 cubic feet and Audi Q5 gets 25.9 cubic feet. The trunk opening in the Porsche is small, and the lift height is quite comfortable. The smaller lid would surely pose issues while letting bulkier loads in. However, the tailgate is fully automatic and power-driven with height adjustability.

2022 Porsche Macan Exterior

The 2022 Porsche Macan would remain the same by the core, but some changes shall surely be expected on the exterior. The front bumper will get redesigned with newer vents and headlights as well. The LED headlights get automatic range control and LED DRLs alongside. Changes are visible in the design of the rear bumper too. The front now seems more stunning and appears facelifted with a sportier pair of side mirrors. The side profile seems almost the same unless you open the doors. The door design gets sleek change by removing the side blades down the doors. Macan comes equipped with 18” alloy wheels with all-season tires.

Looking at the rear, subtle changes shall be witnessed. The rear diffuser has become larger than that on the ongoing model. The exhaust pipes are now indulged with the side cutouts. By looks, it seems too close to the Cayenne, but packs style and sportiness. The redesigned elements surely make it look modern and inhibit the sensation of aging design. The Macan badging beneath the integrated three-dimensional LED tail lamp with the “PORSCHE” logo mounted on it renovates the signature Porsche design language.

Being the heaviest and widest in the segment, the 2022 Porsche Macan surely serves enough space within the cabin. BMW X3 is the longest and highest in the competition. However, the GLC-Class gets the longest wheelbase assuring more space than the rest. Exterior highlights of the 2022 Porsche Macan include:

  • LED Headlights with automatic static range control
  • High Gloss Black Roof Spoiler
  • Power side mirrors
  • Automatic tailgate with height adjustability
  • 4-spot LED DRLs
  • 18” alloy wheels
  • All-season tires
  • Integrated three-dimensional taillight
  • PORSCHE badging mounted on tail lamp strip
  • New vents on the front bumper

2022 Porsche Macan Safety

Porsche has made Macan fairly safe with a plethora of standard safety features. Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has attempted to crash-test the Macan. However, the Euro NCAP results are mind-blowing with a 5-star rating. With 10 dual-stage SRS Airbags and rollover detection sensors, the occupants shall be kept safe in the cabin even during severe crashes. For mitigation, you get a wide array of driver assistance and aid features such as:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Auto Brake Differential (ABD)
  • Anti Slip Regulation (ASR)
  • Porsche Hill Control
  • Porsche Traction Management
  • Porsche Stability Management
  • ParkAssist
  • Reversing camera
  • Cruise control

2022 Porsche Macan Competition

2022 Porsche Macan vs 2021 BMW X3

With upscale quality and performance, the Bimmer gets a clear win over Porsche Macan. The interior seems tech-packed and far more advanced still minimalistic than that of Macan. X3 is built more practical and spacious, with uncompromised aesthetics. It scores exceptionally well on the tests by NHTSA and IIHS.

Moreover, Bimmer gets you better MPG figures as well. However, Macan remains unmatched when driving dynamics come into play. While the Bimmer remains to be a family car, with a lot of practicality and luxury, it offers sportiness and the spirit of driving, making your drives more enthusiastic.

2022 Porsche Macan vs 2021 Audi Q5

Audi Q5 is a perfect family car, with space, ergonomics, practicality, and power. The best-in-class power delivery and torque figures, with uncompromised MPG figures, make the German-built Audi a suitable pick in the rivalry. However, Macan is a driver’s car, called so because of the fun and enthusiasm it pushes to the drives. Offered at a higher price bracket than the Audi Q5, Macan would be a choice for fewer numbers. Q5 would be a value-for-money pick if what you need is a family car with good engine performance and the best MPG figures.

2022 Porsche Macan vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

The ‘Big Daddy’ of the segment is the GLC-Class, which is the best in terms of luxury and performance. Being the most powerful pick in the competition, GLC-Class never compromises with comfort or fuel efficiency. The ride quality is the area where Macan scores above the Merc, by a minor edge. After all, a Merc offered at this price bracket would be a better and valuable choice than the Macan. The iconic GLC-Class assures safety, performance, luxury, tech, practicality and what more. The lush interiors and stand-out styling would surely attract every buyer.

2022 Porsche Macan Final Verdict

The 2022 Porsche Macan, structurally the same as the ongoing model, would remain the same driver’s car with minimal updates on the exterior and interior. The decently powered and satisfyingly efficient motor would never let you down, though the lesser-priced rivals excel there. After all, Porsche is known for their cars' driving dynamics, and Macan is no different. It drives enthusiastically and lets you feel the athleticism in every turn it takes. Serving its purpose well on the roads, Macan would never disappoint you.
