The 2021 Porsche Macan GTS is available in a single configuration only and it provides almost all the desirable features that you would expect from a compact performance SUV from the house of Porsche. It offers peppy performance, looks dynamic even when standstill, and an exhaustive list of comfort features like a tri-zone climate control system, adaptive air suspension, 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, heated front seats, sound package with 10-speakers with an output of 150 watts, leather upholstery, and many more.

2021 Porsche Macan GTS SUV Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The 2021 Porsche Macan GTS offers much desirable and peppy performance that we all crave. The magic lies under the hood in the form of a 2.9L twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 375 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The little 2.9L is surely a gem of an engine and has a rev-happy nature. It is mated to a 7-speed PDK transmission which is essentially Porsche’s version of a dual-clutch transmission. It is sleek and you won’t notice how quick the shifts are. The power is transferred to all four wheels, providing better traction on different surface conditions.

In addition to it, the drivetrain features include a thermal management system for better performance and efficiency. The responsive drivetrain can make the Macan GTS sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and a quarter-mile drag can be done within 12.6 seconds. With an additional sports Chrono package, the Macan can do a 0-60 mph run in about 4.5 seconds only. The availability of active grille shutters on the Macan GTS further improves the aerodynamic efficiency. It is rated for a towing capacity of 4,409 pounds although no one would like to do it with their beloved Macan GTS

All the SUVs in the competition are equipped with 3.0L or nearly 3.0L engines. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 is the most powerful SUV in the comparison and performs very similarly to the Porsche Macan GTS. The Audi SQ5 is the least powerful SUV in the comparison yet it offers very respectable performance, lagging behind by just a small margin. The BMW X3 M40i is closely matched with its arch-rival GLC 43 and performs just like it and has an identical top speed too.

How does the 2021 Porsche Macan GTS handle?

The 2021 Porsche Macan GTS is surely a better handling machine than most of its competitors. The light curb weight coupled with a light and accurate steering yields fantastic results. The suspension setup is slightly on the firmer side and we are okay with it, considering the fact that sporty cars need a firmer suspension setup for better control and handling around corners.

However, it comes with an adaptive air suspension system with Porsche Active Suspension management system which can change the ride height and damping depending upon the driving mode or terrain. With the off-road mode, the ride height is increased by 40mm. Also, with the help of traction control and torque vectoring system, the Macan GTS is quite off-road ready.

2021 Porsche Macan GTS Braking Performance

It is very imperative for performance cars to have an efficient braking system leading to effective braking performance. The performance SUVs are heavier and thus have higher momentum. So the braking performance has to be even better with such vehicles. The 2021 Porsche Macan GTS is equipped with 14.2-inch rotors at the front end and 12.99-inch rotors at the rear end.

With a curb weight of 4,370 pounds and braking assistance features like an anti-lock braking system and multi-collision brake, the Macan GTS comes to a complete stop from a speed of 60 mph within 110 feet of stopping distance. The braking performance is definitely good considering the weight and class of the car but some rivals perform better than it by offering lesser stopping distance.

The BMW X3 M40i is equipped with smaller rotors at both ends and is lighter too but offers a slightly longer stopping distance as compared to the Macan GTS. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and Audi SQ5 offer the same stopping distance despite the Audi SQ5 being heavier and having smaller rotors at both ends. So, the Audi SQ5 can be considered as a winner in the braking performance test.

2021 Porsche Macan GTS SUV Fuel Economy

7.5/10

While comparing performance SUVs, fuel efficiency doesn’t matter much. But the 2021 Porsche Macan GTS and its competitors offer reasonable fuel efficiency. The 2021 Macan GTS offers 17 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg in mixed driving conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 19.8 gallons, the Macan GTS can travel up to 336 miles in the city, 435 miles on the highway, and 376 miles in combined driving conditions. Most of its competition offers slightly better fuel efficiency but is equipped with smaller fuel tanks.

2021 Porsche Macan GTS SUV Interior

8.5/10

The interior of the Porsche Macan GTS is very similar to what you’ll find in most Porsche vehicles. It consists of quality components and sporty elements fused together for a more comfortable experience. The dashboard is laid out well and all the controls are within easy reach. The center of the dashboard is embellished with a rather large infotainment display and with controls and air conditioning vents below it. The availability of a tri-zone climate control system improves cabin ambiance. The signature Porsche analog clock sits on the top of the dashboard just above the central screen. The steering wheel is sporty and gets mounted controls for better convenience.

The paddle shifters on the back of the steering wheel promote a sporty driving experience. 2021 Porsche Macan GTS SUV Exterior

8.0/10

The 2021 Porsche Macan is definitely a stunning vehicle from any angle you look at it. The front fascia reminds you of 718 Boxster with dual LED headlamps with Porsche Dynamic Light System. The front grille is integrated into the bumper itself and the larger air intakes look appealing. The typical aerofoil-like body profile of the Macan GTS helps with better aerodynamic efficiency. The brake calipers on the Macan GTS are red in color and give it a distinct look. The 20-inch alloy wheels look attractive as well. The side window trim in high gloss black rather than chrome gives it a more sporty appeal.

The SportDesign side skirts blend well with the sporty intentions of the compact SUV. The exterior mirrors are electrically foldable, heated, and adjustable. The rear profile is interesting as well with a vertical power tailgate and sleek 3D LED taillamps with a light strip connecting both of them. The rear roof-mounted spoiler and quad exhaust outlets with black tips look mesmerizing. The aura experience from the exhausts is just very encouraging. Overall, the Macan GTS is one of the better-looking compact performance SUVs in the market for sure.
