The Porsche Macan S is Porsche’s answer to take the compact SUV market by storm. It will definitely impress you with its performance, luxury, and comfort driving. It has all the traits of a Porsche right from the design language to the power delivery. It feels and drives like a Porsche is supposed to, but when you want to, it could completely change and become a comfortable and luxurious family car to potter around the city. Even the base model has remarkable engine performance on demand. Acceleration is instantaneous and quick in the base trim but as the trim gets higher, the power delivery becomes ludicrous and a more fun-filled experience to drive.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The Macan S trim comes with a V6 engine that punches out colossal power figures which reflects in its performance and has high chances to annihilate its competition in every aspect. It also uses an adaptive air suspension with ride height adjustment to ensure that the passengers enjoy a comfortable commute. Moreover, its driving dynamics are really impressive and it is the most frolic car to drive in its class. Well, remember it is a Porsche. Moreover, it rivals the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. Let's see how it stacks up against its rivals in this review.

2022 Porsche Macan S SUV Features

The 2022 Porsche Macan is expected to be released in three different exciting trims namely base, S, and GTS. The Turbo is going to be discontinued from the lineup. Nevertheless, the new GTS will deliver similar performance as the Turbo version. Underneath the hood, it gets the same engine you could find in the outgoing Turbo version which is a twin-turbo V6 engine. Apart from that, it also comes with a wide array of modern and clever features.

Moreover, the estimated base price starts at $52,700 for the Base trim. On the other hand, the top GTS version is expected to cost north of $72,500 which is a bit expensive but definitely worth spending every penny. All the versions come with all-wheel drive as standard. Let's have a look at some of the new anticipated and already existing highlight features in the table below.

We Recommend

The Macan S is the most value for money trim as it offers the most luxury features you get from the top trim and provides better engine performance than the base trim, and is priced around $10,000 less than the top trim. It is the best of both worlds but if you want the performance of a sports car in your everyday SUV, the Macan GTS is the perfect pick for you. It gets the same engine as the Turbo version. In a nutshell, it is a 911 disguised as an SUV. For 2022, the Macan GTS gets a new GT sports steering wheel, New Sports seats, Alcantara trims, and 21 inch RS design wheels.

Release Date:

The 2022 Porsche Macan is expected to launch during the summer of 2021.

2022 Porsche Macan S SUV Engine and Performance

The engine of the Porsche Macan S comes with an exciting engine on offer, a 3.0-liter V6 engine that punches out 348 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque which was previously equipped in GTS now becomes the heart of the Macan S. The engine works synchronously with Porsche’s renowned 7 Speed PDK transmission which means dual-clutch transmission in Porsche terms. It is hands down the best transmission in its competition which generates seamless and smooth gear ratios. All the power is channeled to All wheel drive which is standard across all the trims for providing better off-roading capabilities too.

As we don’t have official performance figures of the 2022 Porsche Macan. We are going to showcase the performance figures of the 2021 model. The base engine propels the SUV to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds which is pretty impressive and does a quarter-mile run in 15.1 seconds and is capable of hitting a top speed of 157 mph. The Performance figures of the 2022 model would be a bit higher due to the tweak in its base engine which produces a tad more power.

In comparison, The 2022 Audi Q5 is the car with the least power output. While the Porsche Macan S lives up to its name by producing a power output of 348 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque respectively. The BMW X3 comes with rear-wheel drive as standard. Whereas, the Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, and Mercedes Benz GLC class come with an all-wheel-drive system which was the next clever step taken by these companies to compete with their rivals to attain the maximum performance possible to the road. However, we strongly believe that Porsche would perform better than its rivals in terms of performance.

2022 Porsche Macan S SUV Fuel Economy

The Base engine in the Porsche Macan is likely to be very fuel-efficient if not the best. However, The V6 engine in the Macan S is made for sheer performance and it seems to drink a lot of fuel. However, Porsche hasn’t officially released the fuel efficiency figures for the 2022 model year. Considering the fact that it has not yet been released, the 2021 Macan S version returns a City/Hwy/Combined mpg of 18 / 24 / 20 mpg.

The top trim is made for full-on performance and the fuel economy drops by 1 mpg which is quite surprising for an engine with so much power. All the trims come with the same sized fuel tank of 19.8 gallons and we expect better fuel efficiency in the 2022 model. When it comes to range, the Porsche Macan’s huge fuel tank helps it to challenge its competition and proves it is worthy enough. The Base version however annihilates its competition by offering the highest range in the competition. We believe Porsche would definitely go a notch better and offer better fuel economy in the upcoming model.

In comparison, The Audi Q5 offers the highest mileage of 25 mpg in the city and 29 mpg while cruising on the highway. The Mercedes-Benz GLC class has the least fuel economy of 18 mpg and 24 mpg in the city and highways respectively. The fuel capacity of all the cars is unknown except for the Mercedes Benz which has a fuel tank capacity of 17.4 gallons and is expected to offer a range of 313 miles in the city, 418 miles on the highway, and a combined range of 348 miles. That being said, the base model of the 2021 Porsche Macan S falls behind some of its counterparts in terms of fuel economy but surprisingly it has a large fuel tank which helps it to cover one of the farthest distances in its segment which is quite impressive.

2022 Porsche Macan S SUV Interior

The 2022 Porsche Macan S sees some minor changes to the cabin. For instance, it gets a new steering wheel with audio controls that offer some important controls, a new gear selector that looks plush, a new digital instrument cluster that comes as standard, and a newly updated center touchscreen. The interior dimensions of both the 2022 and 2021 models remain unknown but we know one thing for sure, it would definitely be comfortable and opulent.

The BMW X3 is one of the most appealing SUVs in BMW’s lineup and has its own personality and character. It offers great performance, looks, and a classy-looking cabin. The 2022 model is expected to offer everything you would want from a family SUV.

2022 BMW X3

The turbocharged inline 4 offers a smooth and refined engine performance and at the same time offers a decent fuel economy and you get all these perks at one of the most affordable prices.

2022 Porsche Macan S vs 2022 Audi Q5:

The Audi Q5 may not look aggressive or striking as a Porsche or BMW. The performance and driving dynamics are the fronts where this machine outshines. It has an elegant design better than the GLC in some aspects but not as good-looking as the other two cars.

2022 Audi Q5

Furthermore, it offers great fuel economy regardless of being one of the best-performing cars in its segment. On the plus side, it is the cheapest car in its segment at the moment. Overall, it is an all-rounded package and would definitely meet the standards of a luxury family car.

2022 Porsche Macan S vs 2022 Mercedes Benz GLC Class:

The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is one of the bland-looking luxury SUVs out there but it offers oodles of luxury at your disposal. Right from the engine performance, to fuel efficiency and the interior dimensions, everything is modest and not the best in class.

2022 Mercedes Benz GLC Class

It is also more expensive than the Audi and BMW. If you are a Mercedes fanatic, you can check this out but if you want a good premium family car, other cars are worth checking out in the first place.

2022 Porsche Macan S SUV Final Verdict

The new Porsche Macan S is the closest you can get to a sports car in its segment and it is definitely a no-brainer when it comes to performance and handling. It is the most engaging car to drive in its competition. By opting for the GTS trim, you can unlock colossal performance that comes in handy. However, the fuel economy is on the downside. Coming to the looks, it is the best looking car of the lot. With its traditional Porsche design and revamp, it would definitely turn a lot of heads on the streets. Well, it sums up how well the car is built. If you want a premium family luxury car with the DNA and sportiness of a Porsche, be in no doubt, this would be the perfect pick for you.
