2021 Porsche Macan Turbo SUV Engine and Performance

The Porsche Macan Turbo might have the smallest engine in terms of displacement but it’s tuned so beautifully that even with the least power and torque figures, it gives tough competition to its rivals. Jaguar F-PACE SVR here features the most powerful engine with 550 horses of power but it still fails to beat Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 in 0 to 60 mph acceleration test, while performance figures of all three Porsche, Jaguar, and BMW are in the same range, but the most interesting thing is even with the smallest engine Porsche generates such performance figures.

How does the 2021 Porsche Macan Turbo handle?

The Porsche Macan Turbo holds itself on the corners and curves just like a sports car, due to the lower seat settings, it never feels like you are driving a bulky SUV. The Porsche Macan Turbo is the top model of the Macan series and it comes with the most powerful engine. Porsche has kept the suspension system on the stiffer side so that the vehicle can properly use all the power that is coming from its powerhouse.

Porsche might feel less luxurious than other SUVs in the market at the same price point and it surely can’t be used as a daily rider, it is a weekend car and has been made to drive like a proper sports vehicle. With all these traits the cabin remains silent when it’s driven moderately and front seats boost proper space and comfort for both driver and passenger but the space on the rear row feels a bit cramped as it lacks legroom.

2021 Porsche Macan Turbo Braking Performance

The rotors sizes of the Porsche Macan Turbo are quite decent with respect to its curb weight, the front side gets 15.4 inches of rotors while the rear side has 14 inches rotors. The braking performance of Macan Turbo would be as refined as other Porsches, while the data on stopping distance is somewhat fuzzy but Macan Turbo comes with lots of technology that aids in braking of the vehicle, these techs & features include park assist with front & rear parking sensors, emergency braking, ABS and driveline traction control.

The 2021 Macan Turbo is the lightest in the competition, Jaguar F-PACE SVR and Mercedes AMG GLC 63 are pretty close to the Porsche’s weight mark but BMW X3 M is the heaviest in the segment with the curb weight of 4620 pounds. According to the weight, the size of the rotors of the Jaguar is bigger than the competition and in that aspect, it should offer better braking than BMW, whereas the BMW X3 M even with the small rotors stops within 112 feet while cruising from 60 mph speed.

2021 Porsche Macan Turbo SUV Fuel Economy

One can’t complain of having an SUV cum sports vehicle and getting a low fuel economy. The Porsche Macan Turbo may be low on fuel efficiency but it will surely give you the ride of your life. It claims around 17 mpg in city driving, 22 mpg while gliding on the straight highways, and 19 mpg under the combined conditions. To make up for the poor economy of the Macan Turbo, Porsche offers a big 19 gallons of fuel tank which takes the range of this vehicle to 396 miles in combined conditions.

In this segment, one should not rely on the engine specifications of any vehicle to calculate its fuel efficiency, with increasing technology auto manufacturers now tune even their smallest engine to squeeze out every bit of performance and one can observe the same story here. It’s impressive to see that with such performance Porsche claims an economy of 19 mpg in the combined conditions and that’s how it becomes the most efficient car in the segment, while Mercedes and Jaguar are just below with an economy of 18 mpg but BMW X3 M struggles with the fuel numbers of 16 mpg.

2021 Porsche Macan Turbo SUV Interior

Stepping into the cabin of the 2021 Porsche Macan, one can notice one of the biggest changes in the cabin is that the Porsche has updated the dash design and now features a huge central touchscreen display. Aa always the quality of material used to design the cabin is impeccable, the Macan Turbo feels really solid and well made. The door panels and dashboard are both covered with a soft touch leather and Alcantara has been used for the headliner.

The cabin does have a sporty feel to it with the massive center console which separates the driver & passenger. The front row definitely feels driver-oriented with most of the controls and buttons in the reach of the driver. The Sports seat has the 8-way power-adjustability feature as standard but it can be upgraded to the 18-way power adjustability. The front bucket sports seats hug you tightly while speeding through corners. Seats on both front and rear rows have been set quite lower than usual and you will feel like sitting inside a coupe rather than an SUV. Rear seats do feel cramped in terms of legroom and tall passengers might find it a little bit uncomfortable.

2021 Porsche Macan Turbo SUV Exterior

The Porsche has been designed by combining sports with an SUV, so one doesn’t have to make hard decisions while choosing. The Macan originally came out in 2015 but with some minor updates Porsche has given it another life, the front now gets some bigger and more aggressive bumpers with larger grille and air intakes to lower the drag forces and improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The top model GTC and Turbo get some extra LED lights just below the main LED headlamp housing.

From the side, one can definitely notice the design language of the Macan Turbo inspired by the sports coupe as it gets a sloping roofline with a black spoiler. The Turbo comes with the standard Macan Turbo 20-inch alloys but can be upgraded to the 21-inch size for more grip on corners. The Turbo also gets some unique ORVMs with two slots for added aerodynamics, other than that, it has body-colored side skirts and carbon fiber panels on doors. On the rear, the most stylish change that Porsche has made is the light bar with a big Porsche badge and Macan Turbo lettering and Turbo quad tailpipes as well.

To make the 2021 Macan Turbo a complete sports SUV, Porsche kept the weight of Macan Turbo as low as possible and that’s why it weighs less than its rivals but Jaguar F-PACE SVR and Mercedes AMG GLC 63 weighs just a couple of pounds extra than the Macan Turbo. The proper ratio of the width, height, and length of Macan keeps its body roll to a minimum and the only vehicle that comes close to Macan is Mercedes. BMW X3 M comes with the highest ground clearance and it might be a good thing while riding on rough terrain but not good for a sporty ride. The shorter wheelbase of Macan adds another star in its sharp handling but a compact size means less cabin space. Some main highlights of the features on the exterior of Porsche Macan:

  • Dual stainless steel exhaust with powder-coated tailpipe
  • Brake actuated limited-slip differential
  • 20-inch Macan Turbo alloys
  • Steel spare wheel
  • Rain detecting variable intermittent wipers
  • Black grille
  • Front fog lamps

  • Remote keyless entry with integrated key transmitter

2021 Porsche Macan Turbo SUV Safety

The 2021 Porsche Macan Turbo has been crash-tested by any of the crash testing organizations as Porsche Macan Turbo costs around $85,950 and it’s hard for any manufacturer to send such an expensive vehicle and to see it getting crash-tested it even more hurtful. But this doesn’t mean that it’s an unsafe vehicle to ride in, Porsche has integrated a lot of safety features like dual-stage driver/ passenger seat-mounted side airbags, lane departure warning, tire pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, and much more. Some highlights of the safety features inside of Macan Turbo are:

  • Electronic stability control
  • ABS and driveline traction control

Putting the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 in the shoes of a sports car is totally unjustified as Mercedes can’t let go of its luxury and premium aura just like the sporty genes of the Porsche that it has integrated into the Macan Turbo. GLC 63 feels much better in terms of a comfortable and premium ride quality as it has a cabin with many luxurious features and can be treated as a chauffeur-driven vehicle as well, whereas Porsche Macan Turbo has a completely different take on that.
