We recommend

If you are looking for a daily driver for casual fun then the base variant will do the job for you. The engine will not disappoint you at any point and it also comes loaded with all the features. But if you are looking for some serious performance then we recommend going for the top-end turbo model. The fully capable Panamera performs like a sports car in every aspect.

2012 Porsche Panamera Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The Porsche Panamera has various engine options to choose from and all the engines are powerful enough to push you back in your seats when you accelerate. The standard engine that powers the Panamera is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces a peak power of 300 horsepower and a peak torque of 295 lb-ft. The power is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission.

You can also get the all-wheel-drive variant for an even better grip. The base Panamera can reach from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds while the quarter-mile run takes 11.8 seconds. The S and 4 S trims are powered by a 4.8-liter V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. There are also two more V8 engine options producing 500 horsepower and 550 horsepower respectively.

The Cadillac CTS-Vis the most affordable car in the competition but also has the largest engine on the option. It is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 556 horsepower and 551 lb-ft of torque. It is also the fastest car in the competition as it takes only 4 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph. With the base engine, the Porsche Panamera is the slowest car to reach from 0 to 60 mph. However, it is the fastest car in the quarter-mile run.

2012 Porsche Panamera Fuel Economy

9.0/10

The Porsche Panamera has surprisingly managed to perform well in this regard as well. It manages to deliver 18 miles per gallon in the city, 27 miles per gallon on the highway, and a combined fuel economy of 22 miles per gallon. If you want even better fuel efficiency then you always have the option to go for the hybrid trim. The hybrid engine can deliver 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg of combined fuel efficiency. The Porsche Panamera comes with a 21.1-gallon fuel tank which allows it to deliver a highway range of 569 miles.

The 2012 Porsche Panamera beats all the competitors in terms of fuel efficiency. The Bimmer comes second in the overall fuel economy figures followed by the Cadillac CTS-V. The CTS-V has the smallest fuel tank in the competition. The Merc has the least fuel-efficient engine but it comes with the largest fuel tank which allows better range on the highway.

2012 Porsche Panamera Interior

7.0/10

The Porsche Panamera very well resembles the interior of the Porsche 911. Once you get inside the cabin, you will take no time to realize that it is a Porsche. The controls of the cabin are different from the other cars in the segment. While the other competitors offer digital controls, the Porsche relies on traditional buttons for the cabin controls. The controls look sporty and once you get used to the buttons, they are easier to use than the touch controls.

The seats are very comfortable and hold you in place while cornering at higher speeds. The sporty performance does not compromise with the overall comfort. The suspension is well-tuned to offer the perfect combination between ride and handling. The interior uses very upscale materials inside the cabin. The only downside is that the Panamera can only accommodate only 4 passengers.

The Porsche Panamera offers good space in both rows. It offers the best legroom for rear-seat passengers. The Cadillac CTS-V offers the least legroom for the rear-seat passengers and it also offers the least cargo area. The BMW 7-Series offers the best cargo area in the competition followed by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Standout interior features include:

  •  8-way power front seats with memory function for the driver
  • Cooled glovebox
  • Heated front seats
  • Leather upholstery
  • 60/40-split rear seatback and rear bucket seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control

The infotainment system with the 2012 Porsche Panamera

The infotainment system changes drastically with the Porsche Panamera depending on the trim you select. The entertainment is well taken care of even with the base trims. Porsche has provided an intuitive and user-friendly interface for the infotainment system to keep things simple for you. The base trim gets an 11-speaker audio system while the top-of-the-line trim gets an impressive 16-speaker Burmester surround-sound audio system. Standout infotainment features include:

  • 16-speaker Burmester surround-sound audio system
  • Six-disc CD changer
  • Wireless Cell Phone Hookup
  • Rear-seat entertainment system
  • Navigation System
  • Satellite radio
  • Voice control

2012 Porsche Panamera Exterior

9.0/10

The design of the Porsche Panamera has very mixed feedback from the users. Some people just love it while some people do not find it very attractive. One thing is for sure the design stands out from the crowd. The design strikes at the eyes and you will get many eyes turning towards the car to take a glance. The design is not of a conventional sedan in the competition.

It doesn’t only drive like a sports car, but it also looks like a sports car. The Porsche Panamera rides on 18” wheels as standard and the higher trim also gets 19-inch and 20-inch wheels. You also get automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers. There are a ton of optional packages and features for the exterior which can make the car very expensive.

The Porsche has the shortest wheelbase compared to its rivals, but space is well managed in the interior. Standout exterior features include:

  • 18”/19”/20” wheels
  • Automatic xenon headlights
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Rain Sensing Wipers
  • Pop-up rear spoiler
  • Heated mirrors

2012 Porsche Panamera Safety

6.0/10

Like the other Porsche cars in the market, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not crash-tested the Porsche Panamera yet. However, safety is not that big of a concern with the Porsche cars. Porsche takes care of the safety aspect of their car very well. The story is no different for the Porsche Panamera and it gets various standard and optional safety features. The safety features of the Porsche Panamera are:

  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • Emergency Braking Preparation
  • Self-Leveling Headlights
  • Stability Control
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring
  • Emergency Braking Assist

2012 Porsche Panamera Final Verdict

There are no two ways about it that the Porsche Panamera is one of the most sporty luxury sedans available in the market. It drives like a sports car and looks like one too. Still, it manages to offer some serious luxury and comfort in the same package. The handling of the Panamera makes it an even better choice among the rivals. If you are looking for something in the segment, then the Porsche Panamera deserves to be on your list for sure.
