In the dusk of the sedan world, there might be a ray of hope one can see with a new shift in thinking and approach. The same has been tried by all sorts of players in the market, which means even Porsche is in the race. The 2019 Porsche Panamera might seem the viable answer to that. Improved handling and interior accents keep you right there in the middle of all the attractions.

The charm of this sedan is available in 5 trims, namely the Base, 4, 4S, 4 Executive, and the 4S Executive. Starting at $87,550, the Panamera has a reach of up to $116,550. This price tag is tested against other sedans in the segment such as the Audi A7BMW 740i and Mercedes-Benz S 450.

2019 Porsche Panamera Features

The 2019 Porsche Panamera is available in 5 trims among which only the Base is equipped with the RWD. The trims are tech-laden with a premium feel inside. Moreover, Adaptive Suspension and EPAS are among the starters which give you an opportunity to be reckless sometimes in the pursuit of finding limits to discover new ones. The Base trim rests on 19” Dual-Arm 5-Spoke wheels. In addition to that, the Panamera 4 and 4S get the Trailer Sway Control. The 4 Executive has the privilege of the Porsche Vehicle Tracking System at its bay. As far as the powertrain unit is concerned, the 4S Executive tastes the transition from the 3.0L Turbo V6 to 2.9L Twin-Turbo V6.

On the whole, if the price tag is hefty, then Porsche has tried its best to justify it. There are a couple of standard features like the Hill Hold Control along with the Engine Auto Stop-Start and Selectable modes which increases its dimension of offers across all trims. Not just that, it has a top-tier Navigation Unit with variations in self-defense meters like the Audio Theft Deterrent and Tire Pressure Monitoring Unit embedded into it. The Porsche Car Connect is another pearl in the pacific as it allows you to interact for remote access and gauge the relevant data like the fuel consumption and all.

Which Trim should you buy in the 2019 Porsche Panamera?

It is rightly said that every single penny counts, and when it is a matter of more than $87,000, then even consciousness mutates. The trims are impressive in their own senses, but the one which is a more valuable asset than others is the Panamera 4 as it hardly distinguishes from others and can be availed of at a relatively cheaper price. It does not seem to be negotiating in its application and is as capable as others. The only gap one can measure is with its lower-tier powertrain, but that is an “out of scope” feature when wholesomeness is the priority.

2019 Porsche Panamera Engine and Performance

9.6/10

The 2019 Porsche Panamera gets a 3.0L Turbo V6 which can be as powerful as 330 hp at 5400 RPMs and as thrusting as 331 lb-ft at 1340 RPMs. The low-end torque is massive with which it covers a quarter-mile within 12.1 seconds, but this is not a one-man show as the 8-Speed Auto-Shift Manual in an RWD layout is equivalently responsible for the pick-up. In the 0-60 mph feat, it continues to leave its marks with 4.7 seconds on the clock. There is one more variant available which is characterized by the 2.9L Twin-Turbo V6. It is capable of producing 440 hp of power @ 5650 RPMs. Therefore, the overall picture makes it one of the best in the segment and a desirable package to own.

As per the data, the most dominant among them is S 450 with its highest numbers on paper, but the least impression is also created by the same. Despite being the most powerful powertrain, the S 450 is comparatively slow and sluggish. The opposite is true for the BMW 740i as it seems to be generating the least thrust yet manages to outclass all others with 3.6 seconds in the 0-60 mph. In the midst of all this chaos, the Panamera shines out as it has the right melange of top speed and acceleration prowess.

How well does the 2019 Porsche Panamera handle?

This is something where the Porsche has always been inspiring, and so does the Panamera. There is nothing less that can be expected from this purist machinery as it is exceptionally capable with its ride-height control adaptive dynamic suspension. The feedback and response as a reaction to it are simply mouthwatering.

The icing on the cake is that the steering is light, and effort is reduced to marginality to keep it under the curve. The compact size and boundary dimensions further compliment it to be stable while speeding at 185 mph without any body-leaning. The lower center of gravity is also a blessing in disguise for this segment. Therefore, it is one of the few in the market upon which one can rely with closed eyes.

2019 Porsche Panamera Braking Performance

The powertrain performance is always the half side of the moon. The other half is the braking efficiency. Adding to the narration, the Porsche Panamera gets 13.8” brake rotors in the front and 13” rotors at the rear. The 4-wheel vented discs are ABS supported which keeps the wheel slippage out of the scenario. The braking unit is further extended by the Brake Assist and Brake Actuated Limited Slip Differential. The Electric Parking Brake has been added as well to artillery. The data for its braking distance is not available, but with the lightest weight among the rivals coupled with such a braking package, it can be expected to be within the limits only.

BMW has offered the 7 Series with the biggest brake rotors in the competition, whereas the Mercedes offers the smallest ones. We do not have the braking data for all except Audi, which takes 109 feet to reach a halt from 60 mph. When comparing the curb weight, Mercedes is the heaviest while Porsche is the lightest, measuring 4,553 and 4,001 lbs, respectively.

2019 Porsche Panamera Fuel Economy

8.0/10

The 2019 Porsche Panamera has a decent fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highways, resulting in a combined mileage of 22 mpg. The value proposition is its fuel tank capacity of 23.7 gallons because of which one can have a class-leading range of up to 521.4 miles. The higher powertrain variant has a little more appetite with the delivery of 18/26/21 mpg. Thus, it has that desirable pivot between the power curve and fuel economy.

400.9/590.8/464.2

There is no huge gap as such among them, but for the record, the A7 has the highest economy in the pack. The BMW 740i, on the other hand, is the most practical as it has an acceleration beast in its belly and a fair return on your expense for the fuel. In addition to that, it has a range capability of nearly 495 miles. The S 450 is quite comparable to Panamera in the overall powertrain returns despite the twin-turbo which could have made a gap in the combustion cycle efficiency per revs. So, costing relatively higher yet underperforming makes the S 450 more of a liability than an asset.

2019 Porsche Panamera Interior

8.6/10

The premium touch on the seats with leather-wrapped steering is one of the normals that can be felt in all trims. The ease of adjustment is achieved by the electrically actuated seats which have power-heating available in its realm. The cushioning is also sufficient for long hauling comfort. On top of all these, the HomeLink Garage Door Transmitter has been also integrated into it. If temperature control is your concern, then worry no more as it gets Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning and Underseat Ducts. The Full Cloth Headliner and Metal Finish panels are expected to surround you. Last but not least is the Memory Setting which is enshrined for the driver’s assistance.

All the aforementioned have the capacity to seat in 5 people except the showstopper Porsche Panamera. It also lags behind others in its trunk capacity. For the same scaling, the S 450 is comparatively more sound in its seating comfort, while the A7 has better cargo volume. But there are 40-20-40 Folding Rear Seats in the Panamera which can increase the spacing volume to 52.6 cubic feet. The dimensions for the interior space are not available and hence the overall analysis remains hazy and halfway only. Some of the features include:

  • HomeLink Garage Door Transmitter
  • Dual Zone Front Automatic Air Conditioning
  • Full Cloth Headliner
  • Metal Finish panels
  • Power-Heated Seats

What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2019 Porsche Panamera?

After the interiors cometh the interior extension, i.e., infotainment system. The Panamera is quite a piece of features in this regard. It has an in-built Navigation System which is exceptionally complex and precise. After that, the Hi-Fi sound system with 10 speakers and Porsche Car Connect come which make the interaction with the cabin pretty much engaging.

Voice Activation and Hands-Free Phone Capabilities are among the other standard features that have been added as well. Once done with that, SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, and HD Radio are in the queue. The section will remain incomplete if the Navtraffic Real-Time Traffic Display Unit is not mentioned. Some of the highlights are:

  • Navtraffic Real-Time Traffic Display
  • Audio Theft Deterrent
  • Navigation Module
  • Hi-Fi sound system w/10 speakers
  • Voice Activation
  • Porsche Car Connect
  • SiriusXM

2019 Porsche Panamera Exterior

9.3/10

One can’t just make any random curvature that has the ability to hold 330 bhp, especially when its name is related to Porsche. The Panamera is undoubtedly one of the most fashionable cars on the road to date. The sleek silhouette, sloping front above the bonnet, and hyperbolically carved hood are just too much for us. The 4-door sedan has pairs of 19” Dual-Arm 5-Spoke wheels which are blanketed by the P265/45ZR19 tires. To improve the aerodynamics, it gets a power spoiler in the rear which enhances its sportiness appeal. On the top of the roof, it has a Power Sunshade. Thus, it might even make you go a bit insane when standing next to it.

The dimensions are as important as the active features. From the spec sheet, it is evident that Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera are some of the most compact machines. This gives them reliability in their dynamics control and trust in going against the norms. The Panamera even takes this further with its low weight which reduces the risk of rollover. Meanwhile, the spaciousness that S 450 provides inside is due to enlarged outer dimensions. The BMW 740i has somewhat the same storyline. But irrespective of that, both of them are as sound as others in stability. Some of the features are:

  • Power Liftgate
  • Power Spoiler
  • Power Sunshade
  • P265/45ZR19
  • Spare Tire Mobility Kit

2019 Porsche Panamera Safety

7.0/10

Since the Panamera is limited in production and has a huge cost, it has not been taken to any of the NHTSA or IIHS tests. But that itself may tell you that the Porsche has its belief in its soul that can assure you a safe ride all along. The lengthy front gives enough area for the frontal impact to dissipate, and side beams take care of the side crashing phenomenon. Thus, the chassis is not just light but equivalently well-engineered and well-damped for the crash energy.

Apart from that, it has been given a range of safety touches like the Electronic Safety Control and Driveline Traction Control. The Adaptive Suspension, Park Assist, Brake Assist, and ABS are the other features standing next in the line. The standard Airbags System has been kept inside as well. The list could have had some advanced safety active features, but that does seem to be the case here. The safety features available with the sedan include:

  • Driveline Traction Control
  • Electronic Safety Control
  • Adaptive Suspension
  • ABS
  • Park Assist

2019 Porsche Panamera Competition

2019 Porsche Panamera Base vs. 2019 Audi A7 Prestige

The race to be on top is very expressive between the two. The Panamera has a better performance curve, while the Audi A7 is fuel economy-friendly. They fairly gel with one another in their practicality and offers within the cabin. Both have superior accents and are parallel in their outer appeal. So there is hardly a gap that puts one over another. Therefore, your propensity towards either economy or performance will manipulate the choice.

2019 Porsche Panamera Base vs. 2019 BMW 7 Series 740i

BMW 740i is simply a better prospect than the Panamera with impressive performance and top-notch economy. Further adding to that, the space management and seating comfort in 740i is August and can be worth investing in. So there is nothing to be concluded in their comparison. If compactness is your concern, then there is a slight chance that Panamera might just squeeze in.

2019 Porsche Panamera Base vs. 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 450

The Mercedes-Benz S 450 is more expensive and has almost similar practicality and performance curve. So it really does not make much sense to invest in it when the Panamera is available. They even are on the same scale for their interior appeal and dynamics. The safety nudges seem to be matching as well. Thus, the Panamera is a favorite by a minimal margin.

2019 Porsche Panamera Final Verdict

It is logical to go for the 2019 Porsche Panamera as it has got all in it. Right from the performance to interior and exterior, it seems worth choosing over others. But the 740i can’t be overlooked as it has got even better ability than the former, and that too at a cheaper rate. Therefore, in the market, the 2019 Porsche Panamera definitely makes it to the top wish list alongside the 740i.
