Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

Although, there has been a rumor about an update in the hybrid car variant of the Panamera with a bigger battery and increased efficiency. Porsche offers over 7 trims under the name of Panamera and each model has a unique build and performance differences. The Panamera is a beast in its own right and is always praised for its design, luxury, and of course its performance. The Panamera competes with the other German stalwarts like the Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8.

We Recommend:

Well, if you are looking for advice from us, then It depends on what excites you inside a car. The interior of the power figures. The sedan lovers might need both and if you are of our choice then the 2022 Porsche Panamera 4S trim will be of high recommendation. 2022 Porsche Panamera Price

According to the 2021 model year, the upcoming model year should start from $91,000 for the Base trim. However, the higher trims are expected to come with some added features and should have a price bump over the current-gen model year. The 4 and 4S trims with the Executive package will be priced at around $105,500 and $121,000 respectively. All the trims have their distinctive features in luxury and are also varying in prices.

2022 Porsche Panamera Release Date

For the 2022 Panamera, Porsche has not declared the release date but taking into consideration Porsche's previous launch events, the next-gen Panamera will be released sometime at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

2022 Porsche Panamera Engine and Performance

Porsche is expected to continue using the same powertrain options as of the 2021 model year for the upcoming 2022 model year. Porsche offers two powertrain options for the Panamera, a 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine for the base trim, and a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine. Also, Porsche offers a plug-in hybrid version of the Panamera that uses the 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine with a 17.9-kWh lithium-ion battery putting a combined power output of up to a whopping 552 horses and 553 pound-feet of torque.

The base 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine produces a decent 325 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. The 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine equipped in the GTS model can produce up to 473 horsepower at the crank. Both the engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Although the drivetrain options are different across the range.

The base engine gets a rear-wheel-drive system and the more powerful V8 is equipped with an all-wheel drivetrain. It is expected that Porsche will upgrade the base engine with an all-wheel-drive system for the 2022 model year. The base 2.9-liter turbocharged engine does 0-60 MPH in just 5.3 seconds which is impressive. Although it seems to be a bit slower than the competition, it holds its position quite strongly.

Apart from the Porsche Panamera, all the other three cars have the same engine capacity and configurations, yet they all perform differently. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz outperforms all the other three cars with quite some margin but also costs a lot more than the competition. Although, it is expected that the next-gen 2022 Porsche Panamera will put out a better performance with the hybrid option.

2022 Porsche Panamera Fuel Economy

As per the 2021 model year, the Panamera offers a pretty decent fuel economy and that will remain the same for the upcoming 2022 model year as there won’t be any changes in the powertrain. Although, the hybrid variant is expected to get a bigger lithium-ion battery and that should make the mileage figures significantly better.

The current-gen Panamera does not have all the details of its mileage but as of the combined figures, the Panamera is rated at 26 miles per gallon which is not only impressive but also best-in-class. That is added up for the combined range of a mind-boggling 616 miles which almost is double what the competition has to offer.

The 2021 BMW 7 Series has decent mileage figures and tops the other two cars excluding the Porsche Panamera. The least fuel-efficient car in the competition is the 2021 Audi A8 L. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC puts out almost similar mileage figures to the BMW 7 Series. The 2021 Porsche Panamera misses out on detailed mileage information except for the combined figures that demolish the competition.

2022 Porsche Panamera Interior

The current generation 2021 Porsche Panamera saw less to no changes in the interior and that would be the same for the 2022 model year which is not bad at all. The luxury and comfort inside the cabin with all the creature comforts one needs are present. The cabin style is unique and built from high-quality materials to match the luxury.

The sedan gets a cabin capacity of up to 4 people which is less than the competition offering up to 5 passenger seating capacity. Apart from that, the dashboard is made of wood, and leather accents also hold a beautifully placed 12-inch infotainment screen which is a delight to use. The all-digital instrument cluster looks great and offers customizations for the layouts. The leather steering wheel is light and feels premium to hold.

Coming to the seats, both the front and rear seats are leather-covered and are very comfortable to sit on. Although the dimensions for the cabin are not available for the Panamera, the car offers a pretty decent headroom and legroom for the seating rows.

The competition, however, does provide a quite similar cabin space in both rows. Although, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC has compromised rear headroom and legroom but has a better cargo capacity than the rest of the cars. The BMW 7 Series is ahead in the competition with better dimensions overall. The 2021 Porsche Panamera is adequately spacious and holds quite well in the competition. Few key interior specifications of the current-gen Porsche Panamera are as follows:

  • Remote keyless entry with an integrated key transmitter
  • 8-way power-adjustable, heated front seats
  • Manual tilt and telescopic adjustability for the steering wheel
  • Heated steering wheel
  • High-quality cabin materials
  • A 12-inch touchscreen infotainment screen
  • 4-zone automatic climate control

2022 Porsche Panamera Exterior

The upcoming iteration of the Panamera will retain almost every design language from the outgoing model with a few expected changes. As of the 2021 model year, the Panamera has an even sharper front-end. The front sports a set of typical Porsche-styled LED headlamps with a lowered intake grille followed by a long hood. The sides have a patterned finish with a lot of elements to increase the overall aerodynamics of the Panamera.

The car comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels which are quite big. The rear gets updated with an LED strip of the taillamps which are eye-catching with the quad exhaust outlets on the sides. The roofline connects to the rear tailgate like a hatch. Among the competition, the Panamera looks more exotic and retains its sporty identity with the sedan.

The 2021 Porsche Panamera is the lightest among the competition and is a more compact option among the competition and also has better ground clearance. For the 2022 model year, the Panamera is expected to come with new colors and maybe some visual changes. Some of the highlights of the exterior of the Panamera are as follows:

  • Chrome door handles
  • 19-inch, 5 spoke wheel
  • Power heated side mirrors with power folding
  • Power rear liftgate

2022 Porsche Panamera Safety

Porsche has been known for on-road safety and reliability for quite some time now. The safety features are plenty on offer for this year and Porsche claims to have used a stronger chassis which makes the Panamera more stable on the road. For the 2022 model year, all the safety goodies will continue with maybe the updated ones.

The safety ratings are not available for the Panamera by the organizations like the NHTSA and IIHS because of its availability and hefty price tag and that is common for all the competitors. Porsche has provided the Panamera with driver assistance packages which are additional extras but are worth mentioning. A few of the safety highlights of the Panamera include:

  • Brake Assist
  • Backup Camera
  • Parking Sensors
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • ABS with Driveline Traction Control
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Front and rear Airbags

2022 Porsche Panamera Competition

2022 Porsche Panamera vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC

The difference between the two cars is very much noticeable if you look at the cars. The S500 4MATIC is better in almost every category than the Panamera starting with performance where it technically demolishes the entire segment. Overall the Panamera is sportier in dynamics while the S500 4MATIC is laid-back in terms of driving. Although, the price difference between the car is evident when the price figures come up. The S500 4MATIC is costlier than the Panamera including the other cars in the segment.

2022 Porsche Panamera vs 2021 BMW 7 Series

The BMW 7 Series is the perfect answer to the Panamera except for the performance. The sedan is very popular and is instantly recognizable by its looks. If you are looking for more comfortable and hassle-free drives then this is the car to go for. However, the Panamera offers better mileage over the 7 Series along with a sportier ride and driving dynamics. Apart from the aforementioned differences, both cars are masterpieces in their own rights. In the end, it funnels down to personal preference when it comes to picking one over the other.

2022 Porsche Panamera vs 2021 Audi A8 L

The Audi A8 L is slightly cheaper than the competition which makes it quite accessible given the luxury and comfort it has to offer. Overall, it might be a better buy over the Porsche as it is more suitable on a day-to-day basis. Also, the A8 L is a big comfy car suitable for daily commutes and long highway drives alike. However, the Porsche has better reliability and is sportier among the two with very exciting riding dynamics.

2022 Porsche Panamera Final Verdict

The Porsche Panamera is a car that you can enjoy driving considering the racing heritage behind the Porsche badge. If you want a luxury sedan with a sporty nature and do not want to compromise on both luxury and performance, then the Panamera is the car for you. If you feel the Base trim is not enough, you can throw some extra cash and get the groundbreaking performance of the 4.0-liter V8 version.

Although, all the other cars in the competition are very attractive and have their unique features and you can consider buying them instead. However, we expect that the upcoming 2022 Panamera will bring subtle changes to it that are bound to make it even better than it currently is.
