So, Porsche decided to hop in the Race and hence launched the Hybrid variant of the Panamera called the Panamera e-Hybrid.

Starting at $99,600, The 2018 Panamera e-hybrid directly competes with the likes of the Superb Tesla Model S 100D and the BMW 740e Xdrive iPerformance. Ride and Handling

You have 5 Driving modes namely Hybrid, Sport, Sport Plus, E Power, Individual and 3 suspension setups namely Sport, Normal and Sport Plus which lowers ride height and stiffens suspension as per the mode selected allowing for enhanced dynamics and maximized driving performance. The driving modes can be changed using a small rotary knob on the steering wheel for changing the driving mode immediately when the road conditions change.

Braking

Being a Porsche, the expectations from the Panamera to do well in Braking is, well let’s just say not a Big ask but the Panamera doesn’t disappoint us here. This is due to the Six Piston Monobloc Aluminium Fixed Callipers on the Front and Four Piston Monobloc Aluminium Fixed Callipers on the Rear which offers superb braking performance even under strong braking and is confidence inspiring to tackle the corners when the enthusiast inside you asks for it.

2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Fuel Economy

7.1/10

The Panamera offers decent fuel economy and is at par with the rest of the competitors. But getting the most out of the Engines depends on how hard we are on the gas pedal. You also get a Full Electric range of 20 miles at a max speed of 87 mph which is good for doing daily errands or dropping your kid to school.

2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Interior

8.6/10

“Once you regain your eyesight after staring at those badges for too long and manage to find the door handle to work you way inside, you see the inside of the Panamera is a technological tour de force” - Jalopnik.com

The Interiors are one of the best places to be in of the Porsche and has been well laid out and made of premium materials which make the car look classy and premium. Although there is a huge Piano Black treatment in the Interior Console which makes it a big Fingerprint magnet requiring regular maintenance.

Seating and Comfort

The Porsche Panamera has great Ergonomics, to say the least. The Buttons are easy to operate and reach out to. There are separate control screens for the Front Passengers and the Rear Passengers to adjust the cooling, change the music or do a whole lot of other things. The ease of access in the Panamera is like a Sedan and you won’t face any difficulties while entering into the rear seats of the Panamera.

Cargo Space

The Panamera e-Hybrid offers decent luggage space in the Rear and is enough to keep luggage for a weekend drive or a long road trip. But the Tesla has an advantage in terms of space here which is the presence of a small luggage space beneath the Front Hood of the car as it has no IC engine being a fully electric car.

Porsche has also taken care of the Seat comfort and you get well-bolstered seats both on the Front and the Rear which resemble Bucket like seats but with enhanced comfort. Also, the seats are heated which gives a good feel in cold days. There is ample amount of space in the Front and the Rear to relax as well.

Infotainment

The Porsche has a good infotainment system with a 12” Central Scheme that controls all the setting in the car. It doesn’t have Android Auto but does support Apple Car Play. You also get a 10 Speaker Porsche Audio system as Standard but you can also get a Bose Surround Sound System or a Burmester 3D Surround system available as an option. The infotainment system may not be the easiest to learn but once you get the hang of it, it will be a breeze to live with.

The Drivers information console is a full Digital unit which includes the Speedometer, Odometer, and Tachometer and also has a Heads Up display which gives the driver a plethora of information including range, distance to empty and much more. The colors of these screens change as per the drive mode. You also get gesture controls to make controlling the car easier as well.

2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Exterior

“The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid doesn't shout its hybrid-ness” - Motortrend.com

The Exteriors of the 2018 Panamera have taken a huge step forward from the previous iterations and the car looks much more muscular and Porsche like in its design owing to a whole list of features in it.

Dimensions and Weight

The Porsche is the heaviest among its competitors but that doesn’t make it a slouch in any parameter. It also packs in decent space inside and in the cargo bay which allows for a spacious ride for passengers in the rear seat and the front.

Exterior Features

Although the Panamera e-Hybrid is a version of the Panamera but the e-hybrid has some subtle differences over its gas-powered siblings. The most distinct differences include Acid Green Brake calipers, Green Highlighting on the Panamera Logo and e-Hybrid logo on the Front end on the doors.

  • 19” Panamera wheels
  • All new sporty looking LED headlamps and Tail lamps
  • Sporty Spoiler that looks a bit like the ones taken from Transformers Movie
  • Charging Socket near the end of the Rear Door near the fenders

2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Competition

The Panamera e-Hybrid competes with the Tesla Model S100d and the BMW 740e Xdrive iPerformance in the US. While it may not be fair to compare a Hybrid with a Full Electric car, but still seeing the popularity of the Tesla, people are likely to draw comparisons. You get a lot of variations in the e-Panamera depending on the kind of customer you are i.e. Chauffeur driven or driving enthusiast.

Porsche Panamera vs Tesla Model S100D

The Tesla Model S100D is a Great car and there is no denying the fact. It has all the bells and whistles and outdoes the Porsche in some areas as well. But driving purists will take the Porsche just for its sheer Drive Handling dynamics and the sound of the V-6 which can’t be compensated by a Pure Electric Car

Porsche Panamera vs BMW 740e iPerformance Xdrive

The BMW is the closest to the Porsche here in terms of the feel and ethos but when you look at the Spec sheet, the Bimmer is a tad underpowered and doesn’t match the performance of the Porsche. Also, Porsche’s have the reputation of being the best handlers in the world and this Panamera e-Hybrid lives up to this Hype

2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Final Verdict

So as we can see, the Porsche has a lot of things going its way. The Tesla has great Acceleration Figures but still you won't get the sound from a Petrol Motor. The BMW is the closest to the Porsche and is a little bit exciting to drive than the Porsche if not less. However, it just can't match the performance of the Porsche.

So, if you are in the market looking for a good, practical, feature rich, outrageous handling and Environment friendly sedan that makes you feel a bit less Guilty with sports car credentials and the etiquettes of a Normal Sedan when you want it to be, the Porsche Panamera e-hybrid can be one of the Car to go for.

Pros

Good Interior Design as compared to the Rivals

The Gasoline Engine and the Electric Motor work superbly in Tandem

Stupendous acceleration, outdoing its other Gas Powered Panamera siblings

Typical Porsche like Handling characteristics and cornering abilities.

Good Gas Mileage when combined with Electric Motor.

Cons

Looks won't still appeal to everybody and won't win all Hearts

A bit pricey as compared to Rivals and Customizations will see prices Skyrocketing

Infotainment system informative but still not best in class and is different and takes time getting used to as compared to the rivals.

What's New?

Updated and Improved Exteriors and Looks

Air Suspension comes as Standard
