2017 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Engine

9.0/10

Unless you pay a lot of attention to the power-flow map on the infotainment system or the giant analog tachometer, it's tough to tell which power source is being used. That's a good thing: the Panamera's powertrain makes no fuss about charging, using the battery, or combining the battery and engine for optimum power and efficiency. It just works, simply, smoothly, and quietly- Motor1.com

Engine and Transmission

The Hybrid Powertrain of the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is made up of a Front Engine 2.9L V-6 Motor generating 330HP between 5250rpm and 6,000rpm with 331 lb ft of Torque between 1750 and 5000 rpm and an Electric Motor generating 136Hp at 2800 rpm and 295lb ft of torque at 2300rpm which combined gives a Total Power Output of 462 HP at 6000rpm and 516lb ft of torque between 1100 to 4500 rpm. Transmission Duties are handled by a Superb 8 Speed PDK (Porsche Dual Clutch) Automatic gearbox with Metal built Paddle Shifters which gives a Tactile feel while upshifting and downshifting the gears as and when you want it.

As far as the competition is concerned, the Tesla Model S 100D and the BMW 740e xDrive iPerformance are its closest rivals in terms of Price and Performance. The Porsche hear has the most Power on tap available for the user.

Braking and handling

Being a Porsche, the expectations from the Panamera to do well in Braking is, well let's just say not a Big ask but the Panamera doesn't disappoint us here. This is due to the Six Piston Monobloc Aluminium Fixed Callipers on the Front and Four Piston Monobloc Aluminium Fixed Callipers on the Rear which offers superb braking performance even under strong braking and is confidence inspiring to tackle the corners when the enthusiast inside you asks for it.

You have 5 Driving modes namely Hybrid, Sport, Sport Plus, E Power, Individual and 3 suspension setups namely Sport, Normal and Sport Plus which lowers ride height and stiffens suspension as per the mode selected allowing for enhanced dynamics and maximized driving performance. The driving modes can be changed using a small rotary knob on the steering wheel for changing the driving mode immediately when the road conditions change.

Also, the car gets Brake Energy Recovery System which captures the energy dissipated during braking and directs it into the powertrain for added boost.

2017 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Interior

Crisp, wide touchscreen. A sleek console with capacitive-touch buttons. Snug seats in gorgeous red leather. Impeccable wind- and road-noise insulation. - Motor1.com

The Interiors are one of the best places to be in of the Porsche and has been well laid out and made of premium materials which make the car look classy and premium. Although there is a huge Piano Black treatment in the Interior Console which makes it a big Fingerprint magnet requiring regular maintenance.

Ergonomics and Comfort

The Porsche Panamera has great Ergonomics, to say the least. The Buttons are easy to operate and reach out to. There are separate control screens for the Front Passengers and the Rear Passengers to adjust the cooling, change the music or do a whole lot of other things. The ease of access in the Panamera is like a Sedan and you won't face any difficulties while entering into the rear seats of the Panamera.

Porsche has also taken care of the Seat comfort and you get well bolstered seats both on the Front and the Rear which resemble Bucket like seats but with enhanced comfort. Also the seats are heated which gives a good feel in cold days. There is ample amount of space in the Front and the Rear to relax as well.

Infotainment

The Porsche has a good infotainment system with a 12d Central Scheme that controls all the setting in the car. It doesnt have Android Auto but does support Apple Car Play. The sound quality is superb and offers a rich sound experience. The infotainment system may not be the easiest to learn but once you get the hang of it, it will be a breeze to live with.

The Drivers information console is a full Digital unit which includes the Speedometer, Odometer and Tachometer and also has a Heads Up display which gives the driver a plethora of information including range, distance to empty and much more. The colors of these screens change as per the drive mode. You also get gesture controls to make controlling the car more easy as well.

Hunkered low like a 911 even the revised tail end styling lays claim to the 911's iconic buttocks the Panamera is a true four-door sports car - Motor Trend

The Exteriors of the 2017 Panamera have taken a huge step forward from the previous iterations and the car looks much more muscular and Porsche like in its design owing to a whole list of features in it.

Dimensions and Weight

The Porsche is the Heaviest among its competitors but that doesn't make it a slouch in any parameter. It also packs in decent space inside and in the cargo bay which allows for a spacious ride for passengers in the rear seat and the front.

2017 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Competition

Porsche Panamera 4e Hybrid vs Tesla Model S 100d

The Tesla Model S100D is a Great car and there is no denying the fact. It has all the bells and whistles and outdoes the Porsche in some areas as well. But driving purists will take the Porsche just for its sheer Drive Handling dynamics and the sound of the V-6 which can't be compensated by a Pure Electric Car

Porsche Panamera 4e Hybrid vs BMW 740e xDrive

The BMW is the closest to the Porsche here in terms of the feel and ethos but when you look at the Spec sheet, the Bimmer is a tad underpowered and doesn't match the performance of the Porsche. Also, Porsche's have the reputation of being the best handlers in the world and this Panamera e-Hybrid lives up to this Hype.

2017 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Sedan Final Verdict

If you are looking for a car that does not compromise on driving dynamics due to its electrical nature then the German brothers are your best. The Porsche Panamera is an electric car with the heart of a sports car, this fact alone separates it apart from the other three. It gets the usual Porsche treatment of everything is optional which can skyrocket the price quite a bit.
